  1. I think any of our QBs could throw a jump ball for Calvin Johnson in the endzone from inside the 20. You have hit on the nature of my original question. I don't think there are many players that make a QB better in the red zone.
  2. Are Harvin, McCoy, Clay and Watkins the type of playmakers that matter in the red zone? Guys like Jimmy Graham, Gronk and Calvin Johnson are. Just trying to assess whether or not I should be excited that are offense made it to the 20.
  3. Its a legitimate question. The dolphins weren't lucky enough to draft Suh, but they signed him anyway. For the same money they could have gotten Jimmy Graham and Ngata. In truth Dareus has had one good season on the level of several of Suh's seasons. I am not sure the Bills have any compelling reason to pay him that much money until they see if it extends into this season. They still have the franchise tag.
  4. So you think Mrs. Rice in addition to being hit should be punished financially. Makes no sense to me.
  5. Ray Rice never hit me. The woman he hit seems to have forgiven him. No one else is a victim, just her. As his wife the consequences of his not earning money are shared with him. It doesn't seem obvious to me why if the actual victim has forgiven him, why she should continue to be punished along with him.
  6. Hard to tell from preseason. Henderson looked like a hall of famer in pre-season last year. He did start for the Bills, but ended up grading out near the bottom of the league.
  7. 2013 EJ - maybe no Kiko - gone Woods, seems to be behind Watkins and Harvin 2014 Watkins - The chosen one Kouandjio - doesn't look to be ahead of henderson 2015 Darby - doing Darby things, may start of McKelvin isn't back. I know there are other rounds in the draft, but over time if you get one starter out of the first two round of three drafts, it tends to end up badly.
  8. If you compare Manuel's completion percentage on passes over the line of scrimmage he drops way down vs. the average.
  9. followed by "you can't blame the Bills, there has really been no way for them to improve the QB position"
  10. Most of these NFL players don't post on fan message boards. So I am not sure I trust their level of expertise to assess these matters.
  11. How will the Bills build their tag teams for WWE. I think based on weight, the fairest matchup is Incognito/Kromer vs. Harvin/IK
  12. Enemkpali is going to be put in charge of getting our QBs to shape up.
  13. My question clearly lacked precision. Makes sense, especially Taylor. I think I could imagine Cassel going to New England.
  14. In terms of ultimate potential bad consequences I nominate JP Losman. Had he not been drafted there is a decent possibility the Bills would have taken Aaron Rodgers the following year, and Bills 21st century history could have been much different. In terms of draft placement vs ultimate production, its hard to argue against Cousineu and Mike Williams.
  15. Whaley used EJ as an excuse to pretty much further ignore the QB position for three offseasons (hell the redskins took cousins in the same draft the took RGIII, some years ago the cowboys took Steve Walsh in the same draft they took Troy Aikman). This is Whaley's fault not EJ's but EJ is the target because Whaley is teflon.
  16. Good question. I am only guessing, but I think the amount of time the QBs have to make the pass, even without pressure, is less than they had at every pre-nfl level. In general the amount of time they have to process all of the information going on on the field is less. This might effect accuracy.
  17. I thought Marrone was a terrible choice. He led the team to a winning season, which far exceeded my expectations.
  18. Previous teams found to have changed the air pressure in balls were fined 25k and that was the end of it. It seems likely to me that the Patriots concluded it was worth the risk. Just like offensive linemen decide its worth the risk to hold. If the officials decided in one circumstance to have a 10 yard penalty, but in another circumstance decided to award the victimized team a touchdown and eject the offending team's QB from the game that team would probably be upset. Now this theory isn't consistent with the Patriots refusing to admit the violation. On the other hand, players frequently deny the penalties they are called for.
  19. Well, they just want to be accurate with the teams name "Bills"
  20. If only Whaley had traded the #1 in 2014 for additional picks in the 2015 draft. With those picks, plus the 2016 pick we might have been able to get Mariotta. But we do have a very good WR, so that is something. I hope we keep building up the ultimate "QB Purgatory team". Following that strategy will ultimately help us win a WC playoff game eventually.
  21. In the old days with more preseason games and two a day practices, it seems as though teams with younger players especially at the QB position might have been in a better position to compete during the first few games of the season. That didn't hold true for the Bills last year. But I read quite a few posts talking about "new giant playbooks" and the "offense always being behind the defense". And it occurred to me that teams with QB's like Rodgers, Brady or Big Ben probably don't have any issues with those sort of concerns.
  22. I used yards per play in the original post, because I believe that does the most to eliminate the impact of the offense or specials teams on the defense. If a teams offense is ineffective, the opponent will often be more conservative and simply chew up time once they have a lead. This makes the opposing defense look better statistically for game based metrics. Teams with a powerful offenses who get their teams big leads will change defensive strategies in a way that will make the defensive statistics look worse for game based metrics.
  23. Russell Wilson has an significantly stronger arm than Taylor.
