John, just wanted to say that your reviews are spot-on. Thanks for taking the time to do them each week. My two cents: I think that Adam is the best singer on the program - ever! They should just give him the crown now.

I've got no gripe with your choices, but I always get a kick out of draft projections that have the Bills trading down. They have been far more likely to trade back up into the first round (Losman, McCargo and nearly (early 2nd) Poz). While trade down scenarios are fun to fantasize about because they bring extra picks, it's hard for a team to pass on a guy they really like in hopes that he may be there later. I say they pull the trigger at 11.

T.O.'s love affair with Toronto
ChevyVanMiller replied to ChevyVanMiller's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Check the date on the calendar. I was having a little April Fool's fun. It's funny how you can post almost anything on this board and half the people will get their knickers all in a knot over it. -
So T.O. signs and mentions that he is now playing for "North America's Team" at the presser. Then he gives his first radio interview to Fan 590. Last weekend he's court-side at a Raptor's game in an official team jersey. Finally, he gives his first television interview since his signing to TSN. I've got a pretty thick skin, but maybe he should talk to a Buffalo TV station and consider turning up for a Sabres' game. Did the team put him in charge of selling the proposed 2nd game to Toronto? Is Roger's Communication sliding him some cash under the table? Is he in love with poutine? Conspiracy theorists discuss.

If it plays out like last year and he sits out all of the off-season program and most of camp he's not worth the money he's making now. I thought he was pedestrian at best last year. He needs a full off-season regimen. So, yeah, I think he's got the upper-hand. If the Bills want him on board and not a distraction they need to get him resigned quickly.

I'm getting a bit worried that free agency is waning and the Bills still have major holes to fill. To my way of thinking here's what still needs to be filled (in order of urgency): Sign Peters. He has Bills over a barrel. They can't afford to open another massive hole on the O-Line. Sign a starting Guard to take Dockery's place. Sign a Starting Linebacker. Sign a DE that can get to the QB. Sigh a starting TE to take Royal's spot. Sign a serviceable RB to back up Jackson during Lynch's suspension. That's six glaring holes. Realistically, the draft can probably fill 2. (That also eliminates the old "Take the best guy on the board" scenario that teams like to operate under. The Bills will surely have to draft for need.) The T.O. shot in the arm was nice, but it is looking more and more like sugar coating on a sour off-season.

There was the Kirk Jones incident a few years back. Working both in journalism and tourism I'm quite convinced that was a hoax. The kid that went over in 1960 was Roger Woodward. I interviewed him for "Buffalo Soul Lifters." He is a really great guy. It will be interesting to see how this story develops. Stats kept by the park commission estimate that approx. 40 people per year commit suicide by going over the falls. If we include the Kirk Jones claim that means that 3 out of 1,960 people or 1 in 653 have survived. That number is probably even smaller bcause the suicide number includes those going over the American Falls where the big rocks allow no survivors. If that's the case it's not nearly the astronomical number one might assume for survival.

Here's a random Rick Azar story. When the movie "Sophie's Choice" came out in 1982 I went to see it with my parents. We were in a theater in Amherst and as we made our way to our seats I noticed Rick Azar sitting right behind us. If you've seen that movie (and I've never watched it again) you know it has a gut wrenching, heart-breaking ending. As the credits rolled many women in the audience were crying. I stood up and turned to see Rick wiping a tear from his eye. "Heavy movie, heavy, heavy movie," he said to no one in particular. And that's my brush with fame Rick Azar story.

The offseason suddenly got a whole lot interesting. For those of you with a sense of irony the news broke as the NFL Network was showing the Houston comeback game. I think the franchise made a bit of a comeback (to relevancy) today.

Porn? Or not Porn. You decide.
ChevyVanMiller replied to erynthered's topic in Off the Wall Archives
That's not porn - this, however, is much closer. It's the current Calvin Klein ad in Rolling Stone. Warning, besides the pic the commentary below it is NSFW. CK Ad The message seems to be "Hey girls, want to be gang banged by three pretty-boys? Then get in (and out of) your Calvin Kleins." -
Thanks for the comments, guys. The column got picked up nationally so I've received a ton of email from all over.

Spent the past week catching up on shows clogging up the disc space of my TiVo. Wrote a column about what I have prioritized: Chevy's TiVo Thought it might make a good off-season discussion here. What programs do you TiVo so that you're sure not to miss them?

UB Winners Despite Losing Bowl Game
ChevyVanMiller replied to ChevyVanMiller's topic in Off the Wall Archives
Thanks (Everyone) for the kind words. -
30 Rock has the best writing like this example of a conversation between Liz (Tina Fey) and Jack (Alec Baldwin). Liz: Jack, do you have any pull with the Postmaster General? Jack: I used to, but we had a falling out over the Jerry Garcia stamp. I told him, "If I wanted to lick an old hippie, I'd return Joan Baez' phone calls."

Best TV Show never to make it past Season 1
ChevyVanMiller replied to RayFinkle's topic in Off the Wall Archives
Wonderfalls - FOX show set in Niagara Falls. Here's one I bet you'd never think of - The Honeymooners. It ran just one season before Gleason pulled it because he felt that they'd run out of fresh ideas (They also lost in their time slot to Perry Como, if you can believe it). Although he did bring the characters back in shorts on his variety show. -

It's time to grade the 2006 Bills Draft

Don't know if it's been discussed, but Fred Jackson said in his post-game comments that the feeling on the field was that the Pats* had orchestrated the "scrum" to purposely engage dopey Preston and run out the clock. If true, it's just further example of how far Belicheat is ahead of Jauron in game situation management.

Unofficial: Let's start Gibran thread
ChevyVanMiller replied to EndZoneCrew's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
What is the sense of starting Losman - a lame duck - for any game ever again in a Bills uniform? I know the Bills are mathematically still alive for the playoffs, but when your road there involves two teams having to play to a tie, you're out. Let's say JP tears it up and the team wins the last three. Then Jauron and company look like fools for backing Edwards. Also, that would put some pressure on the team to give thought to actually re-signing JP. (I know, a nightmare if ever there was one.) At worst, JP gets a bigger contract elsewhere and the Bills get f***-all. More realistically, let's say JP is his same old self and leads the team to a 1-2 or 0-3 finish. He goes out the door to stink up the roster somewhere else next year and the Bills still have no idea if their number 3 can be a 2 or a 1. The only upside is to start Hamdan and find out what you have. The fact that the Bills wouldn't even consider doing so speaks volumes about the ineptitude of Jauron and Co.
