Whaley wants Cardale to be 2017 starter
jeffismagic replied to HumbleAndHungry's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Many fans still imagine the defense will be top 5 because Rex is gone. They forget that Mario Williams is gone, Kyle could retire, Jerry Hughes looked awful last year (injured?), Aaron Williams probably gone, Gilmore probably gone, Lorenzo Alexander FA, Zach Brown FA, and the one safety we have is older than old. Our linebackers were drafted for a different schemes that we won't be running any longer. Defense is a mess and just playing a 4-3 won't make us great again. -
Are the Bills a talented team?

The Bills best two players, Sammy Watkins and Marcel Dareus, have been injured or suspended. In Dareus's case Rex decided he would play nose tackle instead of attack the QB. In Watkins case he has constantly been injured and even when healthy the Bills never throw the ball to him. Kyle is one of best players but he is nearing the end and could retire soon. Our best corner could be leaving in free agency and our best safety also could retire. No, at this point we don't have enough. -
People scoffed at the idea that there were different levels of QB coaches in the NFL. They're all the same was the refrain from many Bills fans. If the QB is good he is good, coaching means nothing or is all the same. Then again it makes sense since Bills fans have never seen a QB drafted and developed successfully in their lifetime.

The defense is a mystery to me. McDermott hasn't decided who will call the plays. If it's Leslie Frazier, ouch. Get ready to be carved like a turkey. -
I haven't scouted Darnold yet but watching the Rose Bowl he looked like Andrew Luck.

I would love to compete for a playoff spot and win games. But when I look at this roster do I see a 9-7 or 10-6 team. No. “If you know the enemy and know yourself, you need not fear the result of a hundred battles. If you know yourself but not the enemy, for every victory gained you will also suffer a defeat. If you know neither the enemy nor yourself, you will succumb in every battle.” Sun Tzu -

I have no opinion on Cardale other than what we saw last. He did not look ready. -

Exactly. The Bills decided before the year started the pecking order. Tyrod starter, EJ backup, Cardale developmental QB that would never dress. -

He was a raw project QB that was being developed. He wasn't in a competition with EJ. What can he do now? Who knows. -

I wouldn't read too much into Cardale being the 3 last year. He was a project QB that the Bills did not want to play last year. -

Where did I say that Cardale is EJ? I think you quoted the wrong person. -

We won't need receivers because no one will be able to catch Cardale's 100 MPH passes to receivers 5 yards away. -

"When all is said and done, the Bills could very well determine their best move is to swallow hard and stroke the check for Taylor. Otherwise, they might be inclined to follow through with a plan that is thought to be appealing to at least one member of their hierarchy, General Manager Doug Whaley, and that is going with Cardale Jones as the starter." Vic Carucci http://buffalonews.com/2017/02/10/bills-quarterback-options-beyond-taylor-look-slim/ At least put the quote there so people can see it. -
So do you think Jared Goff will be better than Dak Prescott? Scouting Report on Dak last year: WEAKNESSES: Work in progress as a passer but has a live arm and good field vision. His footwork is inconsistent and he loses accuracy when his feet are not set. Tends to predetermine some throws and relies on a lot of back shoulder patterns, something that got him in trouble against Auburn and Alabama. http://www.cbssports.com/nfl/news/revisiting-dak-prescotts-scouting-report-work-in-progress-compares-to-tim-tebow/

Jim Kelly didn't want to play in Buffalo. It happens. -
Mccown will not be anything close to TT money. And you are correct, the Bills by moving on from TT might be looking at a game plan longer than the next season. Which would be refreshing as they have been doing it your way the last couple. Let's see how we can patch this craft up before the season deal.

But wait, there's more! That linebacker they spent 3 picks on was suited for Rex's inside 3-4 scheme. Now he will be asked to play mike in a scheme where linebackers are expected to have good range. So even those picks on LB's could have to be done over.

It will also be interesting to see the OL block when the QB throws the ball quickly and with timing. That also helps when the QB doesn't hold on to the ball too long.

Again, it's not the money. It's the money committed to the cap and the reduction of options to find a long term answer at QB. Many here envy the Dolphins and their magical ride last year. They got some luck but are nowhere with Tannehill. They aren't winning anything with him there. As a fan, try to put yourself in your rival's shoes. If I was a Dolphin fan I would be much more scared if the Bills moved on from TT than kept him long term.

Tyrod can hit a receiver in stride on a GO ROUTE. Happy? He can't do it on bread and butter plays for most QB's such as a slant. Take a look at the Bills Run After Catch numbers. Terrible and that's due to a QB not throwing with anticipation. And if you think Tyrod is a long term solution at QB I am afraid you might want to look in the mirror while saying others don't know what they are talking about.
