And his line, with 3 first round picks on it no less, tutrtled last night against Anderson and Hunter. That was the key matchup going in for me - strength on strength - and those two first round tackles visibly wilted. I am with you Herbert is a top 10 QB but there is a fair gap from him to tier 1A (Josh and Pat) and tier 1B (Lamar and Joe). He is much more in there with the Jordan Loves and the Jalen Hurts of the world. I never had him as a top 4 or 5 guy really. So I maybe don't get the overrated thing so much. But if lots of the talking heads did (I don't recall hearing a lot of it but that doesn't mean it wasn't there) then sure, he is overrated. Yea that is my question. But maybe they did.

AP All-Pro Teams Announced. Josh 2nd Team Only Bill.

See I don't think Josh should have won it last year. I didn't particularly think Lamar should either and I'm still not totally sure how it happened but Josh was too inconsistent and took mistake prone last year for me. I might have voted for McCaffrey. I am the biggest "it's a QB award" advocate but last year was a kinda sucky year for NFL Quarterbacking. If there was ever a case for a non Quarterback it was 2023. I think if Josh had this season last year he would have been an absolute shoe in. -

They were missing two things: 1. Talent. The second level of the defense in that game was a combination of Williams (3rd rounder), Spector (7th rounder), Lewis (UDFA), Morrow (UDFA) and Ingram (UDFA). And Todd Monken's entire game plan was to expose that level. I have said this before but in the first half they ran exactly one offensive play designed to attack a unit other than the linebackers, nickel and dime. 2. Patience. Bobby Babich's adjustment after one play (admittedly a very long TD run by Henry) was to go to 3 linebackers in base. And the next two drives Monken just put Justice Hill on Morrow and they swing pass and screened us to death. By the time they abandoned that it was 21-0. The long Henry run on the first play wasn't about being too light or anything else. It was just about being out executed. The Ravens all hit their landmarks, we didn't an one of the best players of his generation took advantage. He should have stayed in his defense and trusted his guys to execute better. Brining Morrow in and going to base was a disastrous mistake and I called it out in the GDT as soon as he did it. I would hope a combination of better talent - having Milano, Bernard and Johnson available - and a better, more patient coordinating performance would lead to a different result if we get a do over. But impatience has been a concern of mine on Babich all year. Far from the "he doesn't adjust" narrative my concern is he adjusts way too quickly and often in an ill thought through manner. -
Steelers @ Ravens playoff game thread (no Bills stuff please)

Yep. It is like the Chargers oline in the other game. When you have 3 first round picks invested you can't be a big reason you lose. -
Which team are you most scared of in the playoffs?

Part of stopping Henry and Lamar running all over you is on your offense too. The Bills offense would have to score early and often to get Baltimore out of their game script. -

Is this the last Al and Kirb borefest of the season? -

Put Fields in. Let him run. Russ throwing 5 yard outs or downfield prayers isn't it. -
Yea. Although Harbaugh is never gonna run a modern NFL offense.
-
It is. But that is the market. There are only 4 or 5 QBs that deserve top money but the market doesn't work that way and no one team can change it themselves. The Chargers could certainly help him more by giving him at least one credible outside receiver. The Texans played defense tonight in a way that "you can't beat us outside, McConkey can have his catches in the middle of the field and we will rally and tackle, that doesn't beat us." Of course they missed once with a bad angle and McConkey made them pay but otherwise the plan worked to the letter. I said it about the Bills pre Cooper, I say it about the Chargers now... you can't win in this league on offense if you can't threaten dow the football field on the outside.

I mean he is an issue in the sense that the QB market is an issue. So you have to pay top money from sub optimal production and that may legitmately be the reason the talent around him isn't it (although missing with the Johnson pick is part of that too). But he is still a good Quarterback. He just isn't a great one who elevates what is around him. He sucked tonight but if I was writing a list of the Chargers' problems he'd still be a fair way down it.
-
The issue for the Chargers going forward is their defensive stars - Bosa, Mack and James are old. If they drop off this O needs a lot of work to be able to pick up the slack.

Quinten Johnston sucks.
-
It was an optical illusion.
-
I disagree. That is still the drag from the infield touch. His foot was up once it was outside the field. Bad overturn.
-
Their point was if you kick rather than sneak on 4th all you do is make it 2TDs plus 2 pointers. You don't make it a 3 score game. Therefore possession is worth more.

Replay assist is drunk
-
I think he got it. But if he didn't you gotta sneak for it.
-
Yea you can't lose up front this bad in a playoff game when you have three 1st round picks on that OL. There are. Both tackles and Zion Johnson.
-
No idea. Nutty.
-
Live ball.
-
Rookie safety takes the wrong approach angle. Great play by McConkey.
-
I think it is a bit of all of it. Herbert has shrunk, the weapons are poor and you can't lose up front when you have three first round picks on your OL.
-
Might wanna block Will Anderson lads.
-
Oh I am glad they stopped that for 3 seconds.

Jim better go back to college. Big boy football in the NFL.
