You are right about the drops because I guarantee you K Clay dropped more than one pass that was thrown his way this year. In fact, I'm pretty sure he has dropped every pass thrown his way this year with the exception of one. Gee, I wonder why Tyrod doesn't want to throw him the ball? It is amazing Tyrod would ever throw him the ball again. This receiving corps is so bad, that I swear I saw Logan Thomas lined up as a wide out more than once in the Bengals game. WTF was that about? When the best active receiver on your team is Brandon Tate - your friggin receiving corps SUCKS donkey dong!

Inside the pocket it is harder to see if you are not as tall - makes sense. When you are outside the pocket, how does height have anything to do with anything? Who are you trying to see over? A linebacker who is ten yards down field away from you trying to decide if he should rush you or keep covering whoever he is covering? Or a defensive back who is 40 yards down field covering your flanker? Think about it mathematically. How much of an angle difference is there if you draw a straight line from a guy's head to the top of the defenders head who is 30 feet away or 40 yards away from you? A few inches don't matter at all there if you ask me. Gannon is saying that height is the reason Tyrod is throwing to the tight end there. Nonsense. Unless that isn't what he meant when he said "especially when on the move" -
How many sacks against Cincinnati?
PolishDave replied to GreggTX's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Well, if the Bills defensive line can turn the pocket into a Squeeze Box, where Dalton gets no rest, then Bills fans will be drinking beer and smiling by 5.15 Eddie Yarbrough is going to hit Dalton repeatedly leaving Dalton asking Who are you? If Jerry Hughes is able to Join Together with the other pass rushers we might get enough pressure to force Cincinnati to play The Substitute. Cincinnati is worried though. Tyrod Taylor (also known as the Slip Kid) is going to be Goin Mobile - and getting outside the pocket where he is going to say I'm Free, I Can See For Miles You Better You Bet your ass that the Bills are going to bring it for all four quarters until the Song Is Over. -

I don't think your scenario is a fair one where you can expect ANY quarterback to win the game for you. If your defense sucks and your offense becomes one dimensional - you deserve to lose period. That is why it is a team sport called football and not a sport called QB vs. QB. You can't even expect Tom Brady to win you that game. He might win more of those types of games than other quarterbacks because he is the greatest QB of his era, but even he would lose many of those types of games. I think your expectations are a little too high - not just for Tyrod, but for any quarterback. Your scenario is like the Saints in 2016. They still had a losing season. That is asking too much even from a future hall of fame QB like Drew Brees. -
Matt Ryan: "Bills Mafia is real"

You left government jobs off your list entirely. Paints a substantially different picture that happens to be very misleading. (You mus have experience working in politics?) Government is the number one employer in the Buffalo area, and it is not even close. Government employs more than twice as many people as the largest private sector employer. The ratio of high paying Private sector jobs vs. high paying Public sector jobs in Buffalo is a joke. That is why government work around here is considered an excellent job - while in other areas of the country - and even other areas of this state - people take government jobs as a last resort and aren't proud of it. -

Agree. Gannon is full of it - talking just to talk. So, if we are to believe him, then Tyrod is too short to throw outside (which he did in high percentages the last 2 years) all while the last 2 years everyone else was saying he is too short to throw inside (which he is doing more of this year and did his entire college career). Shows you how worthless analysis from the sidelines can be - even coming from someone with NFL experience. Gannon is just plain wrong. When you are running outside the pocket, I am pretty sure height difference of a few inches one way or the other has about zero to do with your ability to see receivers or see around/over defenders who are ten yards away or farther. Like - duh. -
It is an unbelievably awesome experience - and one that every single Bills fan in WNY deserves to experience in his/her lifetime. It is half the reason I renew my season tickets year after year. It is hard to find hedonistic activities in life that are more fun than a home playoff game. It's more fun than seeing your favorite band in concert. (well at least it is to me) Let's go Buffalo!

Matt Ryan: "Bills Mafia is real"

Yeah, you probably haven't heard that recently because there haven't been any major industry closures recently (that come to mind). However, 20 + years ago, there absolutely were lots of people leaving the Buffalo and WNY area because they couldn't find decent work. In order to lose industry, you have to have it first. And there isn't a lot of industry (at least not big industry) left around here. Here is the sad truth about WNY. Look at the top employers in the area. # Employer # of Employees 1 State of New York 15,123 2 Federal Executive Board (United States of America) 11,183 3 Kaleida Health 10,000 4 University at Buffalo 6,733 5 Catholic Health System 6,628 6 Employer Services Corp 6,363 7 M&T Bank 5,140 8 Tops Markets 5,058 9 Buffalo City School District 4,949 10 Erie County 4,203 40% of the people on that list work for the government. In other words, the biggest and most dominant industry in Buffalo is government by far and it is not even close. = SAD And that doesn't even include Buffalo City Schools (funded by government) or UB (large government funding also). WNY is a Mecca for government workers. And if it wasn't for that government money in Buffalo right now, this area would be nearly destitute. You'd be a farmer or you would starve. Compare that to a city like Charlotte NC for example: # Employer # of Employees 1 Carolinas Healthcare System 35,000 2 Wells Fargo 22,000 3 Charlotte Mecklenburg Schools 18,143 4 Walmart 16,100 5 Bank of America 15,000 6 Lowe's 12,960 7 Novant Health 11,000 8 American Airlines 10,600 9 Harris Teeter 8,239 10 Duke Energy 7,800 All private sector except for the schools. When you compare Buffalo to other cities, economically, Buffalo is a complete joke. That is also why there are thousands of vacant homes and part of the reason for nationally low housing prices. -

He does need great pass protection if you expect him to make plays from the pocket, because he holds the ball longer in the pocket than many/most QB's do. If you roll him out - then not as much. The thing he does better than other quarterbacks is extend pass plays when outside of the pocket - giving receivers lots of time to spread the field (assuming the routes are designed to do that). He gives a team more opportunities to (attempt) those 5 second broken pocket plays that can turn into HUGE passing plays and touchdowns. Personally, I would like to see lots of those style plays attempted as long as he is my QB. -

That has not been my experience at all. People all over the country and even the world (with some exceptions I am sure) are very approachable in a setting like that - bars, restaurants, etc. I can't imagine why you think that is unique to this area. It most certainly is not. ----------- As far as the economy around Buffalo goes: Buffalo will be great again economically, if and when there is ever a resurgence in manufacturing around here. Don't hold your breath waiting for it. -

Bills up to #3 in USA Today power rankings
PolishDave replied to YoloinOhio's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Carolina beat the Superbowl champs in New England and beat us. Um...... I think they deserve to be ranked 3 before Buffalo does Don't get me wrong, I am enjoying the ranking. I just don't think it is realistic. Buffalo needs to prove more to me yet. Gotta get better on offense. -

No doubt the kicker is good. Most games it is totally okay to do that and take the field goal. Playing teams like the Patriots though, where you enter the game confidently thinking you need to put up 30 for a win, you can't kick on fourth and short. You need to get to 30 by the end of the game. You aren't going to get 8 field goals to go with your 1 touchdown. Kicker is bound to miss one if he even gets that many opportunities. In past years, you could tell the mentality of the Bills' coaches when playing the Patriots. The Bills would march down the field on the first drive, get inside the 10 yard line and end up settling for a field goal. Right then and there you would know, with confidence, that the Bills were going to lose. No way they were going to get to 30 + points. You may as well quit watching the game. It was so predictable. Only way the Bills win in a game like that then, is if they miraculously get turnovers against the Patriots or they get a couple of very unusual positive things to go their way. That can happen, but it is very unlikely. Part of the problem with Dick Jauron (and I think will be an ongoing issue with McDermott) is that he refused to try to put teams away by getting up 2 touchdowns or more on them. As soon as he had the lead, he would go into "protect the lead mode" instead of bullet in the enemy's head mode. I strongly desire a Bills team that will utterly destroy its opponent with superior play as early as possible instead of letting teams hang around and compete in the fourth quarter. I wouldn't go into protect the lead mode until my team was up by at least 2 touchdowns - or maybe less if it was really late in the game. I don't want close games. I want blowouts with the Bills being the victors. -
How big were the beets though? I mean, come on man.... Dried Apricots? 50lb bag?

PolishDave replied to YoloinOhio's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I think he is saying it is very hard to believe the Bills are the third best team in the league right now. I happen to agree if that is what he is thinking. The Bills must get better on offense if they are to deserve to be number 3 on the board. - Carolina is 11 and they beat us. Bills should probably be somewhere around there. I suspect, even if the Bills win this weekend, unless the offense really performs well, I wouldn't doubt if they drop back a spot or two even with a win. -

PolishDave replied to Billsfan1972's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Exactly. Washington should cut him now. He is not the future and there is no way he gets better. They should tank for the draft. It is the only way. They would be stupid not to and will likely be stuck around 500 forever. And that is way worse than just losing all your games. -
Nah. Bills will beat them before that in the playoffs.

Skins are hitting like Greg Williams is their DC.
-
Doctson didn't have all 5 pressure points on the ball = fail Blocked field goal returned for 6 ends this game with a Skins win. Or not.

Seems like Cousins can just run draws back to back to back all the way to the endzone. Let's see it!

------------- Cousins doing his best impression of Alex Smith and Tyrod Taylor. And its working.

I made a rhyme. (giggles) --------------------------- Twice tonight Smith has beaned his receivers in the face with the football. Doying! Doying! Funny stuff.
