You're right. But, Mcdermott has to hit on a Qb this year somehow - either through drafting high - or drafting wherever or through free agency. Because if he doesn't hit at least close enough to the mark, then he is going to be hitting the road within a couple years. He has to be smart enough to realize that. So, I think he and Beane just might be willing to overspend to try and get whoever they think the right guy is.

Now they like Josh Allen in Trade Up?

Can't you say "yes, but" about any qb honestly? including all of the qb's in this draft? -
There once was a man from Dunkirk named Don He spent all his time in the John He collected a bunch of his stools Spoon-fed it to gullible fools They soaked it up like tamp-ons Then along came another chap His name was Kelso’s Cap He tried really hard to write Yet, his post smelled like Don’s shite He got the boot and everyone clapped

Yeah. I don't know if the guy is going to make it in the NFL or not. Maybe that game was a one-time deal? But, if someone wants to nitpick about that video, I think they are crazy. In the Senior Bowl alone, that guy looked like a future record breaking Hall of Fame kind of QB. I am not saying he is going to be. The guy might be a bust in the NFL. At the Senior Bowl though, he looked like an elite NFL quarterback. I have no problem whatsoever with the BIlls taking this guy or even moving up in the draft for him if they are convinced he is going to become that elite NFL quarterback. Some team, whether it is the Bills or not, is going to take a shot at him in the draft (probably pretty high). And the guy looks like he has a really good shot at becoming a great NFL Qb that could elevate a team tremendously. -
Why I would be happy with Lamar Jackson
PolishDave replied to Canadian Bills Fan's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
In college maybe. Not in the NFL. Even guys with wheels - like Newton, Russell Wilson, Tyrod & Mike Vick - end up running less and less over time and becoming more of a pocket passer - and eventually end up on the bench if their arm isn't good enough. Then there are guys like Fitzpatrick and Roethlisberger who used to run with the ball for first downs more often when they first came into the NFL - and very seldom run now. Age does that to quarterbacks. Once these Qb's hit 30ish - their wheels start to slowly fill with concrete. If you want to get a franchise quarterback who can make your team a 10-15 year playoff contender, you better get a guy with an arm. His legs won't last. -

See 1:24 There were a total of what - about 6 plays in that highlight video. 2 were scrambles for positive yards - 1 for a first down. He completed 3 passes to what appears to be his first read receivers even when they were well covered. A couple touchdown passes. In one he completes a touchdown pass to a receiver who looks like it wasn't his first read. I don't see how anyone can pick on what he did there. He looks like an absolute superstar there. If he plays that well in the NFL, this guy is going to stack up Lombardi's. -

If they honestly think he is the best in the draft or at least the best option for Buffalo, I say get him. -

Trade Scenario Depending on the NY Giants
PolishDave replied to H2o's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
That would be Brownsy and also nutso cuckoo! There has to be one QB that the Browns like more than any of the other ones. If that guy is one of the top talked about prospects, then they are nuts to not take him at 1 unless they trade up and take him at 2. -
This whole thing is somehow a big deal? Never seen a fight before? The article calls it a BLOODBATH. lol One dude has bruises and another one had a small head wound. Who hasn't seen bigger bloodbath's back in friggin high school and way, way worse fights in public bars even church beer tents? When you mix heavy drinking and heavy partying with strangers - inevitably this occurs. It is to be somewhat expected I would think. Are people on that cruise unfamiliar with reality?

Rumor: Tops Markets to declare bankruptcy

Got an (inchworm?) in my chicken with Broccoli there once. It stood up on end and pivoted like it was looking around. Probably hard to avoid 100% I would imagine. But gotta wash the produce better. That ended my relationship with Golden Dragon. You are so right. Aldi and Price Chopper are excellent for pricing compared to others. -
Brian Daboll is the key to who we draft IMO
PolishDave replied to BuffaloBillyG's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Could be. The impression I get from OBD is that Pegula is very much involved - only from a veto/approval standpoint though. Could be totally wrong though. If he wasn't that involved, then I don't think he makes the trip with his staff to go talk to players. And I think he has done that more than once if I recall correctly. -

Peterson is going to be a Superstar! So good that people will get his name wrong. Sorry, just had to.. -
They knew what they were doing when they tagged him. They were keeping him (for now) while deciding they would not commit. In other words - they decided he isn't good enough to be their franchise QB. Maybe they changed their minds and regret it now? Yeah could be. Or maybe they made this decision when they first tagged him and kept him around until the price to do so was too high knowing that this day would come. Washington has a history of making stupid decisions. So it is entirely possible that they just effed up completely. I am still skeptical of Cousins though. Enough to make me want to try getting someone who could be truly elite in the draft instead of building around Cousins.

It is a silly comparison though, because you can't expect to get someone with Tom Brady's (greatest of this era) pocket awareness. If the Bills get someone with Brady's pocket awareness and anywhere close to his level of accuracy, there are going to be lots of trips to the Superbowl for the Buffalo Bills over the next decade plus. There is nobody anywhere who wouldn't make the same trade of Brady over Tyrod. Nobody except Tyrod's parents. A more realistic comparison of what you might get would be better. -

I think we disagree on what this line would look like under an average pocket passer. With an average pocket passer I think they perform at best (average) or lower in pass protection - which isn't good enough of course. No doubt the Qb can influence how good the line looks/performs. Hopefully the new guy is good enough to elevate their performance. -

I think if you see a traditional pocket passer in as QB for the Bills it is going to completely change the way defenses play against the Bills offense. Remember teams were trying to make Tyrod a pocket quarterback? They aren't going to do that to a traditional pocket passer - especially not a rookie one. Defenses will bring a lot more pressure instead of contain and it will show. I don't want to take away draft capital for getting a QB. I get the QB and use whatever other capital I have left to upgrade elsewhere. Depends a lot on which QB they like. If they honestly want one of the guys projected to go in later rounds, maybe they wait till 21. Otherwise, trade up. -

We don't really know what type of running schemes Daboll is going to implement and we don't know what his run/pass ratio is going to be either. If you want to play smash-mouth run, run, run football (like only about 5% of the fanbase wants to do) well then this line is serviceable. If you want a more traditional pocket passing game with average ratio of pass vs. run, this line is not very good. And it will likely be even worse with defensive coordinators blitzing your rookie more often than they would a veteran. And assuming Glenn will be playing RT is a very big and very unlikely thing to actually happen. There is a reason they didn't do it this year. Nobody knows what it is. But they could have done that when he was healthy and they didn't. -

PolishDave replied to BuffaloBillyG's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
In my opinion, the highest vote in the QB decision will be McDermott with Beane being the second highest vote, Pegula being the 3rd highest (with veto rights) and Daboll being number 4 on the list. Daboll's power lies in the fact that he will have McDermott's ear. If he lobbies hard enough, he could help sway a decision. But I think McDermott is going to ultimately decide which QB is going to make or break his career in Buffalo. And I think Beane and Pegula will give him the right to that "make-or-break" decision. -
Good post. You do have to wonder, if Cousins is as good as some people here make him out to be, why in the world would Washington let him go and pay another guy with questionmarks a big salary to replace him? If you have a franchise quarterback playing great football, you don't let him go right? There are reasons why Washington is letting Cousins walk. Those reasons should be concerns for anyone thinking of signing the guy. Bills should trust the draft to find their franchise guy.

If I was Beane, my highest priority goals would be 1) trying to acquire an elite quarterback and 2) trying to build the best offensive line in the NFL. You can address both of those priorities high in the draft within the first 3 rounds. And free agency can help you upgrade the line as well. Realistically, what are the odds they move Glenn to RT? You know they aren't going to do it. (whether they should or not) And, if you are going to draft your future franchise QB, may as well get him a top notch center. -
5) Team knows what they have in Taylor Which is why they will very likely move on from him in the next couple months. 7) Brian Daboll can build offense around Taylor's strengths There is next to zero chance of this happening in my opinion. If McDermott didn't make Rick Dennison do it last year - why in hell would he even allow it to happen now even if Daboll wanted to do it. It seems apparent that McDermott knows Tyrod isn't the right fit for this team. And it is apparent Beane agrees - otherwise he wouldn't have publicly mentioned his preference for a pocket passer. Reasons why the Bills will likely move on: 1) They know what they have in Taylor and have determined it is not good enough to build a consistent winner. 2) He can be replaced with a better (even if temporary) pocket passer for the same money (maybe even less). 3) Fans will throw projectiles at McDermott on the sidelines during games if Taylor is a starter and the passing game continues sucking The days of "quarterbacks with wheels" are over in Buffalo for the immediate and foreseeable future. (At least for the rest of the McDermott and Beane era) Prepare yourself for Drew Bledsoe 2.0

PolishDave replied to Canadian Bills Fan's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
It would be helpful and far more interesting if you explained yourself surfer boy. Yeah. Could very well be the case. I was picturing the Bills drafting him with their first pick in round 1. And then starting him in year 1. Which would be a coach killer in my opinion - unless the guy was awesome right out of the gate. -
What if the guy they want is there at #21? Does that mean he is scrap?
