AJ McCarron wins grievance vs Bengals, is UFA
PolishDave replied to YoloinOhio's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Could be. Can't see how Buffalo looks any worse than those though. Especially when Buffalo has a successful running game already and actually made the playoffs. -
Sounds good. Sign me up.

What RB I would target in the draft
PolishDave replied to Buffalo716's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I'm not betting "all" on Shady. I prefer an elite back like him to an average guy, but I don't see the need to spend good draft capital (round 4 or better) on a backup running back or a guy you intend to "groom" or whatever. Decent backup backs are numerous. Tolbert is not one. The other guys they had here were. In the offense I would like to see the Bills run, a decent back is good enough as a backup and the dropoff from Shady to a decent backup back will not be that much. I would much, much, much rather spend that draft capital on an offensive line prospect way before I would spend it on a running back. If your offensive line is great, you can throw any back behind it and your run game will be productive. Yes you are better off with elite running backs. We already have one. I wait till he is done before I go after another elite guy. And decent backup backs can be had undrafted in my opinion- or from the scrapheap of other teams who bring in a new younger guy. -

Yeah. I would think he gets offered a "prove it" contract by one or more teams where he has to prove he is a franchise guy. Bills could be one of those teams. McCarron might see the Bills as a better opportunity also being that they were a playoff team this year compared to winless Browns. -

Because the Bills already have Shady, I would look to sign the best undrafted guy I could find - or get a decent affordable backup back in free agency - like Cadet was. -
How to build the Bills into a Champion
PolishDave replied to Tatonka68's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
How about this: 1) Build the best offensive line in the NFL through player acquisition and coaching 2) Build a top 10 all around defense 3) Acquire an elite QB by any means possible. 4) Adopt an offensive mentality of blitzkrieg in terms of play calling Then enjoy your team being a powerhouse contender in the AFC year after year after year -

Apparently you don't realize it is dead. What is obvious to everyone else is yet still unapparent to you. If it doesn't twitch you can stop whacking it. K? -

I'm thinking he isn't getting a good contract offer because he is unproven yet and thought of as a game manager rather than a potential rising star. But who knows in this QB needy NFL. -
Why I would be happy with Lamar Jackson
PolishDave replied to Canadian Bills Fan's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
If Beane drafted Lamar Jackson, and Lamar didn't become elite very quickly, then it is very likely he would cost McDermott his job and maybe his own job too. I say that because I think the majority of Buffalo fans are tired of the "quarterback who makes more big plays with his feet than his arm" type of QB. And Lamar Jackson is that guy. Just watch his highlight videos. Only way you take this guy is if you can get him late in the draft (ideally round 5 or lower). Let him go elsewhere and tie up some other team for 2 or 3 years before he is demoted to backup and gets his coach fired. -

You sir, are a dead horse-beater. Not just any dead horse either - a dead horse that has been basting and cooking with maggots out in the summer sun for more than a month now. That kind of dead horse. -

Bills should make him a reasonable offer. -
WTF? Puke................... Yeah. You can definitely notice the difference in the yolk with free range chickens. When I say free range I refer to the ones wandering about a farm completely unrestricted - even to the point of getting hit by passing cars. Used to have some Americanas that layed blue eggs. Tasted the same. We typically get our eggs from a local farmer when possible - when their chickens are laying. The farmer's young kids raise the chickens and sell their eggs. $2 a dozen. When their chickens are not laying, we get them from whichever supermarket they are cheapest. Brown, white - whatever.

You said Darnold is a turnover machine. I instantly thought of Peterman.

Yeah, but can you imagine Tyrod or Lamar catching passes over the middle. Then catch me if you can with the Db's. Whoooop! Touchdown. -
I don't have a problem with the bills acquiring a quarterback on par with Eli Manning. He would be a substantial upgrade. I just have a problem drastically over-paying for that guy. If you can get him without overpaying, go ahead. If you are going to pay what it takes to draft number 2 or 3 this year, well, then you better get better than Eli or you aren't going to any Superbowls in the near future and you certainly aren't going to be dominant year after year.
-
I don't care who the Bills get as long as the guy they get ends up being dominant. I have no problem with them trading up for Rosen (or any other guy) if he is that guy. If they are right about him, then he is way better than Eli Manning. And I am okay with that. I am not okay with trading up to 2 or 3 for a guy if they think his ceiling is Eli manning.

I thought Beane said he wants a - pocket passer specialist? If you take him at his word, then Jackson isn't on the radar in the first 2 rounds. -
Because that was Eli at his ceiling. He won Superbowls with great defenses and very good offenses. He isn't elevating his team. You are making the assumption that you are guaranteed two Superbowl wins if you get a QB like Eli. That is a very bad bet. Not only is it not guaranteed - it's not even likely. If you get a top 5 quarterback, you are way better off. If you can't tell me that Rosen is likely to be top 5 (he's not if Eli is his ceiling) then you don't spend that much capital to get him. I don't have a problem with Rosen (I am assuming he is going to be better than Eli), but if I thought his CEILING was Eli - then no friggin way do I trade up for that. Because then you have to assume you are going to get the crappy years of Eli along with it. Dominance is the goal. Perennial dominance. Eli can't get you that.
-
So you are saying Darnold is a more talented, more athletic Nate Peterman? Get him and kick Nate to the curb.
-
The goal should be to get an elite Qb - best of the best if you can - or at least one that will be top 5 perennially. Not just a franchise guy. There are franchise guys who are not good enough for your team to be dominant year after year. TOTAL WORLD DOMINATION should be the goal.
