  1. The more a person digs into the stats on Tyrod vs other quarterbacks and really analyzes them, the more likely that guy is to come to the realization that Tyrod is a much better passer than he is given credit for being. The evidence is everywhere. Tyrod is middle of the road overall when it comes to starting quarterbacks in the NFL who has big play potential.
  2. He said it in his Monday press conference. I think it was towards the end of the conference but I could be wrong about that. They were badgering him about the reason for benching Tyrod. And he came out and said - if they were still in the playoff hunt, Tyrod would have started the Jets game. But because they weren't in the playoff hunt anymore, they wanted to evaluate the other 2 quarterbacks instead. Obviously he wouldn't come out and admit it was because of the injury clause in the contract, even though anyone with half a brain knows that was the primary reason.
  3. FIrst - all the speculation on Tyrod is meaningless until a new coach is hired. That coach will be the single biggest deciding factor in whether Tyrod stays or goes. In my opinion - there is a high likelihood of Tyrod staying with the Bills simply picking up the existing option that is available to them. I believe Whaley already wanted to do that but is waiting ONLY because of the question-mark about who the new coach will be. Second - if Whaley brings in someone other than A Lynn, can it be considered anything other than a rebuild? Not if the coach that they hire is a person who has previous head coaching experience or someone with a lot of coordinator experience. If they hire someone who has previous head coaching experience or experience as a successful coordinator, it will likely be because that guy convinced Whaley & Pegula that he can turn this team into a contender in one or two years with minor tweaks in the personnel. The more inexperienced the new coach is - the more likely that they will rebuild player personnel on a grander scale. The one exception being Anthony Lynn.
  4. Whaley even said flat out in his interview that if the Bills were still in the playoff hunt, Tyrod would have started the last game. That does not sound like a Gm who has "moved on" from that quarterback. That Schefter story is clickbait bullschit and the person who started this thread took that clickbait bullschitt and twisted it even more into something it is not and then posted it like it was actual news. This is emotional gossip that was bastardized into more emotional gossip none of which is based on the truth at all.
  5. But Chip Kelly is !@#$ing crazy!
  6. Unless he shows substantial improvement in camp and preseason next year, I think Cardale will end up being demoted to practice squad guy or possibly just released from the team altogether. It is unlikely that a new coach is going to want to hang on to a "very long term project qb" that was brought in before that coach was. Coach will pressure GM to keep a more immediately relevant guy on the roster. But if Cardale shows enough improvement, he will probably stay on as 3rd string backup assuming the Bills aren't overloaded with QB's heading into next season.
  7. I think it is 18.4 dead cap for Tyrod and 4.2 million for Hughes. 22.6 million in dead cap It is called dead cap because you pay that when you get rid of a player. When you trade a player you cannot trade away prorated signing bonuses. That tallies approximately 18.35 million (rounded to 18.4) for Tyrod and 4.2 for Mr. Hughes. Bills would swallow a huge chunk of cap money = unaffordable
  8. What are you talking about? Whaley said he was one of a four person committee that decided to hire Rex. And he said Rex was fired without his prior knowledge based on a private conversation Rex had with Terry. What corner? What botched? What exactly is unbelievable? He didn't pretend anything. He told you exactly what happened and Terry corroborated it in the interview with John Wawrow.
  9. Good link. Kind of makes what Kelly said about the coaching situation seem like a myth. He probably wants the Bills to part ways with Tyrod and sign Chad. It would be hilarious if he said that.
  10. I went back and watched the press conference again. I thought Whaley was crystal clear - perfectly clear. And after watching that press conference again, I have more faith in Whaley than I previously did. The guy seems 100% focused on doing what is in the team's best interest. If I was trying to build a football organization, that guy would be very high on my list of people I would love to have help advise me and help build it. I can see why the Pegulas appear to place so much trust in the guy. I can't believe a higher percentage of Bills fans also don't see what I see or maybe they do?
  11. I think you are correct. You are also correct. If you are looking for a coach, it is usually because the team hasn't been winning Superbowls recently. Obviously the Broncos are a rare exception. I think Jim just told the truth as he sees it from the perspective of a former quarterback. Jim was a QB. He looks at things from that perspective. And like some posters on this board, he probably thinks that going to the playoffs is 90% dependent on how good your quarterback is. But this season alone proved that isn't true. Otherwise Drew Brees, Philip Rivers and Cam Newton would be in the playoffs. And they're not. Quarterbacks are very important. But not 90% of the game important.
  12. Jim was asked why we don't hear big name coaches being talked about as showing interest in coaching the Bills. Jim said "It starts with the quarterback. Do you have a quarterback who can take lead you to the next level. We do not have one as of right now." He also said "Tyrod Talyor did a lot of things last year and this year that quarterbacks cannot do (positive connotation), but consistently he just was not what we needed. He had to be more consistent on his throws. When we needed the first down to move the chains to win games, when we needed the first down to move the chains to get first downs to continue that control of the ball, to take time off the clock, we just didn't have that there." He basically acknowledged Tyrod's special talent, and then also acknowledged that the offense did not get first downs in situations where it could have won them the game. Keep in mind that he was not asked why the Bills ended up with the record they did or why they lost the games they lost. His answers likely would have been somewhat different if he was asked that. He was specifically asked why no big name coaches names are being thrown around as rumors for the Bills job. His explanation was basically, because the team's best quarterback right now is not a quarterback that people think will win you a Superbowl.
  13. How in the world did this thread ever get bastardized into what it became? That was outstanding reporting by John Wawrow. It painted a very clear picture (in my opinion) of exactly how the Rex firing went down. And if you stop and think about it and you try to imagine yourself in Terry Pegula's shoes as that went down, the entire thing makes perfect sense. It looks like it was handled perfectly fine as respectable, professional and classy business people would handle it. It was a respectful dismissal of a high ranking executive (Rex) due to a job performance issue. And the timing of it was due to circumstances. Makes complete sense. I don't understand all the hubbub at all?
  14. No, Rex agrees with you. But, it was the wrong call. And inexcusable with your playoff chances depending on it. Highest odds of winning that game were going for it there. And it was a "must win" situation. Tie unacceptable. Rex chose his own image over the best interests of the team. And by admitting that was his mindset by making that call, he deserved to be fired.
  15. You don't have your numbers right. Gone after year 1 = $35 million in dead cap, after year 2 = 20 million after year 3 = 10 million which is why you are committing to 3 years. And those numbers only apply if you get rid of him. While he is on the team his cap numbers are - next year = 15.9 million year 2 = 16.8 million year 3 = 17.4 million all those years are very reasonable cap numbers - heck even Brock Osweiller is getting more than that. Brock is getting 19 million,21 million and 20 million in cap over the same time period. You aren't going to get another (top 21) veteran in here for less than Tyrod costs you in cap costs. Tyrod is the cheapest route even with his current contract. The only way you get significantly cheaper is to go with a rookie or some other short term backup QB who has not been a consistent starter. And by doing that you are extremely likely to be downgrading performance at QB.
  16. Media people and now Bills fans have turned a pretty clear cut and logical situation into a soap opera because people gotta have their drama. Can't find anything emotional to talk about? Manufacture it. - Silly humans. I honestly can't believe people give two craps whether the head coach reports to the GM or the owner. The owner is making the decision about the head coach anyway - regardless. And you could make a case for why you don't want the head coach too beholden to the GM anyway. Let the Pegulas do what they want. It is their friggin team. They have been exceptionally successful in other businesses. They will figure out how to make this team a winner.
  17. Daily Tyrod thread. Yes it is logical and reasonable. I think that is what most of the posters have been saying over the last week or so. Isn't it? This is a big decision that the new head coach will be the biggest "decision maker" on. The reason the new coach will be the biggest decision maker on this subject is because, as the contract sits, a new coach will be betting his coaching tenure on Tyrod succeeding if the Bills pick up the option on Tyrod's contract. That is why Whaley is silent about Tyrod. If he opens his mouth about Tyrod too much, it could directly (and negatively) affect the pool of coaches the Bills have to choose from. That means it could directly impact Whaley's future and the Bills' future. So it would be irresponsible of him to say anything unless he is intentionally trying to limit his coaching options for some reason.
  18. Not true. It costs you $10 million in dead cap to ditch him after 3 years and only 3 million after 4. Either of those is doable. So the commitment is 3 years really not 4 or 5. Meanwhile - during the time he is under contract, he is only costing you 16-17 million as a starter. That is a bargain for a starting QB.
  19. Because Drew Brees and Philip Rivers and Cam Newton just proved that all you need to get to the playoffs is a quarterback. Typical anti-Tyrod guy who uses team stats to justify something about a QB. Incredibly weak take and doesn't even realize it.
  20. Well if those guys really want a worse football team, cutting Tyrod has a very high percentage chance of making that happen. Kind of a strange position for a Bills "fan" to take though. Chances of getting similar or better performance out of a rookie is minuscule.
  21. No it doesn't. His cap hit is 15.9 million next year if the Bills pick up his option. That is not cap hell. Not by any stretch. His dead cap is high for next year, but that only comes into play if you get rid of him right away. If the Bills commit to him they are committing for 3 years. Out of all the guys who want to cut him, not one single person has yet to show how you get improvement at the Qb position once he is cut.
  22. Fair enough. I got my stats from here. I just assumed Sammy was out that day because he didn't show up on the leading receivers list. Goodwin had the best day by far yardage wise because of a deep touchdown pass. And Salas caught a deep one too.
  23. Isn't that really for the owner to decide. And who are we to tell them otherwise. They own the friggin team. If I owned the team, I would want to be the primary decision maker in any of the top guys I am betting the direction of my franchise on. I don't blame them one bit. It has to be an exceptionally large pill to swallow to relinquish control at the very top of an organization you just paid a billion four hundred thousand dollars for. All this whining about the Pegulas not knowing what they are doing is utter nonsense. It is a waste of breath and keystrokes to complain about our owners. And it paints fans who are doing so in a bad light in my opinion.
  24. Good post. Needs to be merged with the other thread.
  25. Tyrod Taylor and the same Bills squad scored 31 against the Jet's the first time. 297 yards passing - 3 TD - 1 pick And I believe that was without Watkins. Goodwin was the number 1 that game. Quite a difference huh? If only the defense had showed up that first game. Tyrod is way >>>>>>>> than the other QB's on this team.
