Spikes was a good one year rental, but it would be ridiculous to prioritize him or offer him a large contract over guys like Marcell Dareus or Jerry Hughes. Period. And if you keep Spikes on a smaller deal, he can be used as depth and on obvious running downs. The fact that Preston Brown has received all of the snaps in place of Keith Rivers is very telling. This team obviously is very high on Brown, and should be, because he has shown quite a bit of potential. Kiko/Bradham/Brown/Spikes/Rivers is a good LB core to me.

I think both Hughes and Dareus can be signed, provided we are smart about who we resign IMO Hughes and Dareus are vital, and hopefully an extension for Cordy Glenn The Bills fortunately do not have many notable players set to hit the market this year. Besides Hughes, Dareus, and Spiller, I can only think of Pears, Searcy, Spikes, Hairston, and Easley. Out of those 5, I would probably only extend Searcy, and offer an affordable deal to Spikes. I think Searcy is quietly becoming a very solid safety. While Spikes has improved our run defense notably, I still think he is quite one dimensional, and doesn't play the amount of snaps that would warrant a large contract. Kiko will be back next year With Spiller injured we now we will get a sense of what Bryce Brown can do in his place. If I were the Bills with Spiller coming up a bad season with an injury I would not offer much. Spiller is dynamic and is definitely worth a spot on this team provided his touches are limited and he is utilized properly, but we should not be looking to blow him away with an offer. This team overall has been built that we have the cap room needed to extend our core players, and we have decent depth and role players filling in other positions. It is vital to extend and keep our strengths- the defensive line, especially.

He had some familiarity with Schwartz's scheme and made plays, but did you also notice that he created HUGE holes in that defense for RB's to run through? Schwartz has done many things right since obtaining the def. coordinator position, have to reserve some judgment to him on this one. Cohen may be an option to pick up if we get an injury bug. By kicker, do you mean punter? Look, the reason why we have two punters is because Nigel Bradham is going to return week one, and the loser of that positional battle will be dropped. It makes no sense to add Jordan Gay, and then just blindly assume he is the starting Punter.. why not add another guy, who has been productive in preseason, and take the better of the two? You wanted Cohen and therefore 10 people on the Dline? Why do we need 10 people on the Dline, exactly? The trade for Thad worked out nicely. We gave a special teams player we would have cut anyways and in return, got a player that was useful for a year. Not the best player, but definitely one who was capable of winning games. It's unfortunate he digressed. You also listed the best teams in football right there. Look, the Bills don't get respect, but certainly not for the reasons you listed. How about going into the offseason with Jeff Tuel and Thad Lewis? How about not addressing the TE position so far? I'm not too worried about our DT depth with Branch gone- Bryant, Charles, and Cohen have all shown considerable amounts of potential. I've actually been quite impressed with how Bryant and Charles have developed their skills since last year. If we were to upgrade at all on our line, I'd be down for the Bills to look into Will Smith. He was released by the Patriots today, and he's a veteran with considerable experience in the league. I'm not enamored by Jarius Wynn/Jacquies Smith, and although getting another DE isn't the most important task for the Bills at the moment, I think we could add some depth in Smith with a cheap contract. It's scary when you actually think about how paper thin our LB corps are- I think Manny Lawson could fill in at LB if need absolutely be. I'm not keen on Ty Powell or Randell Johnson getting playing time. This type of switching works better if you have depth.

Palmer as #3 is fine with me, because that means he probably won't ever see the field, and will simply provide mentorship to EJ. I'm still not enamored with the backup position. We really should have made moves at the beginning of the offseason, but that's no reason to not pursue avenues right now. Honestly, if we had EJ and two new QBs, I wouldn't really mind too much, so long as those QBs have more football experience and have proven themselves capable of coming in and winning a football game. (I'm insinuating here that Palmer has experience in the league but not in actual games) Tuel hasn't shown that... yet. I was hopeful that Thad would maintain the level he achieved last year, but I don't think the team can rely on him based on his performance this preseason.

I wish the Bills had kept their additional pick in the 5th and selected a quarterback. Other than that, this draft was pretty solid. We addressed most of our weaknesses and were aggressive. I hope this draft class will be the factor that pushes us into the playoffs.

Chris Johnson's contract will set a mark for Spiller, I believe. They are similar type of runners, but Johnson has been more durable. If Johnson doesn't receive the contract he wants and has to settle for less, that'll prove to be very indicative for Spiller to what he may receive next year. If Johnson gets a big pay day, then Spiller will perceive his worth as about equal to Johnson. I'm actually surprised at how few teams have reportedly had serious interest in Johnson. We're talking about a top 10 if not top 5 RB year in and out who is durable and still is an electrifying threat. We shall see, but so far, this signs have been showing me that teams aren't investing much in the position in FA and prefer to keep their own up and coming players. Guys like McFadden, Jones Drew, and Tate received contracts that were relatively cheap

Nice idea in principle, but if the Lions didn't think we would pick Evans, why would they waste a pick moving up unless they thought we would make a trade? I could have seen this before the trade for Williams, but I don't think the Bills look for a WR in the first round now.

Thank you. It also helps that CJ2K is a type of runner who is similar to Spiller. I think that the Bills are looking to gauge what a potential contract might be for Spiller. We don't know their level of interest. I like that they are doing their due diligence, though. It especially surprises me in a good way that they would show interest in a top RB considering we have two solid ones on the roster, but I love the proactive moves. I can accept the argument that the Bills may be looking to shop Spiller. I can see why. Spillers been gimpy and Johnson, for the most part, has remained upright. I do wish to add, however, that RBs are getting paid less and less each year. I don't think Spiller would see as much of an increase as we as fans think he would.

Couple points.. I know Stevie has had his bonehead moments.. but I would argue that DeSean Jackson has had more, and now there is this issue of his involvement in gangs. I know, he may not be in one or affiliated but the fact remains that this question is out there and must be considered. Additionally, the Eagles have consistently talked about DeSeans "me first" attitude, lack of work ethic, and we know that DeSean will holdout if he feels he is under compensated. He was paid I think 9-10 mill last year and is looking for about the same. That type of investment could haunt this team if it turns sour. I know we as fans are impatient and would want the team to make risks.. but I want them to take calculated, weighted risks. If Marrone has problems with a more benign Johnson, then can we expect from Jackson and Marrone in terms of a relationship? Marrone needs to do a better job of controlling his players instead of creating rifts, otherwise talents like Jackson will never be considered by the Bills. Jackson/Britt > Graham in a heartbeat. In cutting Stevie you are, in dead money, losing what you would pay a draft pick. It makes sense to just pay a few extra million to have the guy. Even if he wasn't in the starting lineup due some regression or injury problems, it's good to have that insurance in case something goes awry. Stevie at this point has probably reached his full potential. I would argue that with his injuries and the QB conundrum it is tough to assess whether he has regressed significantly enough. That's why I'm willing to pay Stevie another year and see what he has too offer. We can do this much. Dude was great a couple years back. If we were in a sticky cap situation, I might agree with you on really considering Stevie's value to the team. Then after a season the FO reflects on what he brought to the team in 2014-2015. I agree with you on the premise that Woods and Johnson are very similar. We as fans constantly hear that it takes 2-3 years as a WR to blossom, so I think we could do with both for at least this year. Next year around this time we could consider cutting Stevie if Woods has shown he is capable of taking his spot. I think Woods is a gamer, but I can't be convinced based on one season, like I cannot be convinced that EJ will not be successful based on his injury plagued rookie season. It's your personal opinion that the Bills won't pay big money for two WR talents. I can accept your opinion, but I will offer this. We have all of our TEs on peanuts. We have a QB without a mega contract and a bunch of mid round WRs. We've placed so much emphasis on defense. In order to become a more balanced team, we need to value offense more. In this draft, I could see the bills improving the following slots in order of necessity: OL, WR/TE, QB. If the Bills truly want to draft BPA and want DeSean Jackson and are willing to ignore baggage, they will pay both Jackson and Stevie. That would provide the Bills with so much leverage to go BPA. That being said, however, I doubt the Bills can get a deal done with Jackson. I could see Britt signing with Bills as being more likely.

Dareus and Fitzpatrick, while you specifically did not mention them, are examples of ways of thinking common to your way of thinking. I'm glad you're giving EJ time too, as that is pragmatic You still haven't addressed what the harm is in keeping Stevie. OKAY, so let's for a minute say that Jackson is better than Stevie. I can listen to that argument. So because Jackson is better than Stevie we should cut a talented receiver in Stevie and just hope that Woods and Goodwin elevate their game? Speed is important. We already have one threat in Goodwin and the reason why I'm still open to adding Jackson is the fact that Graham hasn't emerged. So you could have 1 big "go up and get it" WR like Evans, 2 speedy guys (one who has injury concerns) and 2 possession receivers who play very similar, and that in my opinion would significantly bolster this WR group. Then eventually, it may improve to the pointy where we don't need Stevie, but at this point... we do. The Bills spend, in the league, one of least amounts of money on skill positions. We can afford to keep them both, money is not an issue here. If we cut Stevie we are unnecessarily creating a hole. You plan for the worst, not for the best. One might say, well, Stevie is overpaid for his output. Stevie brings a veteran presence to this team and will help Woods and Goodwin emerge. I also think we, as fans, hate on the guy too much. His mistake in the Atlanta and Pittsburgh game from years ago are unacceptable mistakes. I hope he turns it around next year and we should give him that chance. Additionally, we are also sacrificing size in doing so, which is not what Whaley is envisioning according to his latest statements. Sure, id love to add Jackson, but that doesn't change our WR or TE plans in the draft. You have no problems cutting Stevie, our best receiver for whom we have no replacement, and taking a large cap hit- yet, you'd rather moan about Fitzpatricks cap hit? Honestly unless you have so much talent to compensate you absorb the contract. Stevie had a rough year, but he's had proven production. Dude just lost his mother, are you one of the people who was arguing that we should cut Dareus during his 2nd year? Look where he is now.. I appreciate that you want to improve the team, but there are other ways of doing so. Cutting Johnson and acquiring Jackson could help, but it's risky. We can keep them both around. If we draft a WR in the first we will be paying him pretty decent money anyways.
