Bills 6th Round Pick (#1) : Dorian Strong - CB - VA Tech
Kirby Jackson replied to Simon's topic in The Stadium Wall
He’s a pretty good player and represents good value as did Hancock. The Bills just don’t have enough roster spots in the secondary to roster all of these guys. They got sniped for Horton. They missed the WR. They got sniped for Pooh Paul. They didn’t do a good job today (at all) IMO. I hate the idea of drafting guys that are immediately long shots to make the team. I’d rather draft a punter or developmental QB. You have a bottom 5-7 group of pass catchers and you drafted one guy. He’s Lee Smith. -
Too slow Probably have to bring Cooper back unless you make a deal for a guy. Maybe Alec Pierce?

Bills 6th Round Pick (#1) : Dorian Strong - CB - VA Tech

My goodness. Dorian Strong CB, Virginia Tech. This has gotten ridiculous -
The “Josh having a few bad games” thing isn’t a thing. It’s not 1992 anymore. Josh Allen is the MVP of the league. If they draft a young guy and he plays well for a month, they trade him. That’s Jimmy G. There’s no such thing as a distraction or people calling for the backup in the Bills situation. If Kirk Cousins or Geno Smith was the QB, I would agree. That’s not the case for Allen, Burrow, Jackson or Mahomes. The conversation started when I said that I wouldn’t hate Shadeur in the 5th. He could win some games. It just felt like really good value. I never thought Shadeur was a top 10 player but I don’t think that he’s a 5th round player either. He was a 2nd roundish guy. McCord and Howard are out there still as developmental guys. As an Ohio State fan obviously I prefer Howard to McCord 🤣🤣. I don’t see either as the guy though. You can afford to use one of these picks on a guy to compete for a backup spot or practice squad spot at worst. You aren’t keeping all of these guys you’re drafting anyways.

I’d argue that number 2 QB is way more important than a guy battling J’Marcus Ingram or Baylon Spector for the last roster spot. I 100% believe that. If Josh misses a month, do we miss out on the division? Home field? The playoffs?!? You can’t have that. If they think Trubisky is good enough, so be it. It certainly isn’t White. Soon, they’re going to have to draft and develop a guy. That’s what good teams do. The Pats did it behind Brady multiple times.

Shedur Sanders Make To Round 5? (Poll) - UPDATED x 3
Kirby Jackson replied to boyst's topic in The Stadium Wall
Welp, so much for that idea -
With this recent run of DTs, I bet Beane trades up to avoid missing out on his next one

Why not? Did Jaden Daniels step in and lead his team? Stroud the year prior? Those are extreme examples but in 2025 it happens a lot. Purdy is an even better example and he was Mr. Irrelevant. If you asked 32 teams who they would rather start in a game tomorrow Mike White or Shadeur Sanders, 32 teams would pick Sanders. If the Jameis Winston type of vets go places with a rocky QB situation it even further strengthens the point that you need to draft a guy there if you have an elite starter. We need to look at it through the lens of “what if Josh misses a month?” That’s all that matters for a backup.

White is AWFUL🤣🤣
-
That’s dumb. They need a guy capable of going 2-2 or 3-1 if Josh goes out for a month. They can hire another QB coach if we still need someone to help Josh in the film room. Bring back Barkley. They can’t punt on a season because he misses a month. That’s the purpose of a backup.

Wash, rinse, repeat

I wanted a QB in this draft. Thought it made sense to start developing a guy. I think that I want Shadeur at this point. He probably has to go somewhere with an unquestioned starter at this point. If he’s good you can eventually get a haul. If he’s a backup, so be it. The Bills locker room is strong enough to take in all that comes with drafting him. He is as likely to be good as Dillon Gabriel or freakin’ Kyle McCord 🤷🏻♂️

He’s a horrendous athlete. That’s why he’s there. Walker is so stiff. Now maybe, he’s decent value as we move forward but he’s not a very good football player. He’s very good at measuring. A year ago, he was thought to be a top 10 pick. The more teams evaluated the more they saw that he wasn’t very good. If you want to drop a 5th on him, that’s cool.

Why do we “hope” that Keon improves but replace the guys on defense that we don’t think are good enough? The goal should be to turbocharge Josh not to rely on him elevating scrubs. I oversee a sales team that has 27 sales people. 37% of our book of business is generated by the top 3 people. Is it better for me to give them everything that they need to go further or to spend time/resources worrying about numbers 25-27? That’s the WR argument. Who cares if your 5th corner or 5th DT sucks? I don’t care if my 25th best sales person isn’t good. I’ll never invest in them in place of those top 3 people that make wins happen.

My goodness, don’t be so simple. It isn’t about how many balls are thrown to him (that’s a part of it). It’s about the impact that he has on the offense. If you draft, Thornton, for example, you have to give cushion and have safety help over the top. He’s 6’4” and runs a 4.30 40. If the safeties are 20 yards back and shading outside of the numbers, what do you think happens in the middle of the field? Do you think that there is space for Kincaid and Shakir to operate? Do you see why that’s a positive? Do you think that a safety being 20 yards from the LOS is better or worse for the running game than a safety playing 8 yards from the LOS?
-
Amari is washed. That’s why they haven’t signed him back yet. Do you think when they traded a 3rd for him they planned on him only being here for 1/2 of a season? Again, that’s a rhetorical question. If he had ANYTHING left, he would already be back. Maybe they get backed into a corner and have to bring him back but anybody with his career, remaining on the market through the draft, should tell you what the league thinks of him.
-
That’s totally fair. I think that they can’t get the number 1 WR that they are lacking here but can get a quality deep threat. It may be a 1 trick pony like Thornton but that skillset alone opens up the field for everyone. There are a bunch of WRs left that will play regular snaps in the league. They just won’t be at the top of depth charts (at least at this point).
-
What do you believe is more important: someone that will play 20 snaps a game to keep the safeties deep or someone that will compete with Dane Jackson & J’Marcus Ingram for the 4th outside corner? It’s a rhetorical question. They were an offense built on scheme and Josh. The Ravens in the first game openly said that they just pushed the LOS and jammed the middle of the field. The Bills immediately traded for Cooper to make teams at least respect them down the field. He’s gone. 40 miles might be an understatement. There’s nuance to this. The Bills scoring a lot of points doesn’t mean that they have good pass catchers. They’re a bottom 5ish WR group. Shakir is the only above average player in the room. He’s a top 30ish WR. We need to stop looking at a stat sheet to tell the story. The defense sucked. The talent sucked. The depth has been, and will be, fine. They were slow. That’s been addressed. Filling out the back of the defensive roster without getting help for the most important player to ever wear a Bills uniform is criminal. IF the Bills are ever going to win a Super Bowl, it’ll be BECAUSE OF Josh Allen, not because of their 5th CB or 5Th DT. 🤣🤣 opening up the entire playbook for him >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> more defensive depth

The most important remaining need is a field stretching WR. There isn’t a close 2nd. Giving Josh Allen someone that can stretch the field vertically not just adds big plays, it opens up the underneath for Kincaid and Shakir. It gets safeties away from the LOS to help the running game. I think that the stat was the Bills saw the most (or at least top 5 most) loaded boxes in the NFL last year. That’s impossible with Josh Allen as your QB. That’s malpractice by the organization. Palmer should help some but it’s the biggest need by 40 miles.
