Golisano to bid on Bills & propose new WS staduim
Buftex replied to YoloinOhio's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
There may not be a lot of 40-50 year old billionaires who want to buy the team, and keep them in Buffalo. But you never know...wouldn't it be weird if Monica Seles one day owned the Bills? Still got my fingers crossed for Pegula or one of the Jacobs heirs... but Golisano, I believe, would buy the team, and take whatever necessary steps there are, to ensure that they are in WNY for a long, long time to come. From the comments he made, he seems very concerned with his legacy in WNY. All the joking about his cheapness aside, he is known also for being extremely charitable. -

I was at that Rodenberry appearance too. I remember my best friends' father took us...he spent most of the time smoking outside. I have seen all the movies, but after the first couple, they are not great...didn't care much for the recent "reboot"...it seemed pretty pointless... I thought they were both fun to a degree...but pretty unmemorable. The guys playing McCoy, Scottie and Chekov are just terrible...the first was fun because it tried, to some degree, to recreate the look of the original series...but the second just looked like every other sci-FI adventure movie...they even managed to make the Klingons pretty dull. I think Abrams has all his heart in the Star Wars franci$e... I could care less if they make anymore Trek movies. -
It's all part of the jboyst charm!

Golisano to bid on Bills & propose new WS staduim

Well, Golisano has a very good point. I have no doubt that the land that Congel could bring to the table is his reason for sitting at it. All that said, funny how locals all seem to kind of feel like, "a new stadium isn't necessary, we have one already". I agree to an extent. But I do recall, after Mr Wilsons' passing, Goodell making some comment about the Bills "need" a new stadium to ensure their future in WNY. Now, did he mean "need" in the sense that the team should be playing in a more state of the art facility...or did he mean "need" in the sense that without a new stadium, there is a good chance an owner intending to keep the team in Buffalo, will not neccessarilly be approved by the required number of "partners" (ie: owners), if that new perspective owner plans to have the team remain playing at RWS. From the tone of the comments from Golisano, it sounds like he might be having some doubts? Let me ask, suppose Golisano and Congel were the finalist to be the new owners...we are assuming that Golisano would be approved, but what about Congel? Could Congel be a deal breaker from the NFL's POV? -

Don't beat yourself up over it. One summer, I devoted a significant amount of time to figuring out the stardates of each episode, and then trying to figure out what order you would have to watch them (this is pre-VCR, even) to get the true chronology of the Starship Enterprise NCC-1701, to more accurately track their 5 year mission...I had planned on working the (awful) Gold Key comics adventures into the chronology as well....but even I gave up on that...the "stardates" on the original show never seemed to make a lot of sense... wasted summer days, indeed...imagine if I had put that much brain power into something useful! -
I like Goodwin too...but he was injured, in every game he played last year.

Not if they don't get another QB!!!! Ha ha...couldn't resist...the ultimate TBD thread killer! Great video!

C'mon man! I understand the choice of Watkins...obviously everybody is excited about him, and for legit reasons. But, I am going to go out on a limb and say Mike Williams. I think he is much better than a lot of people are presuming. His issues are all off the field, not his game. If he gets his act together (I suppose the Bills have about a half dozen key guys we can say this about) off the field, I think he is going to be a major acquisition for us.

I am not exaggerating when I say, I have seen every episdoe, minimum, 3 times....many far more than that. There was a time, before I was a full-time cool guy, I could list all 79 original episodes, in the order they aired, or damn near close. My memory has not aged well (wasting it on stupid **** like remembering every episode of Star Trek, in the order it aired!), however, so now, the best I can do is name an episode, I can tell you what season it was from...give me a brief description, I can tell you the name of the episode. If a random episode pops up on tv (they haven't run it in reruns for years, where I am), I can tell you which episode it is, within a few seconds...I still got some of it. My nerdiness did not extend to the other Trek shows...though I have seen all of Next Generation (enjoyed it a lot), and Deep Space 9 (my favorite, after the original)...I watched Voyarger, out of a sense of obligation, I think...I hated it, and gave up after about 5 seasons...I just didn't care if Janeway and crew ever made it back...it was like watching 5 years of "Spock's Brain" episodes for me. I gave Enterprise a shot, but just couldn't get into it...though I am told it is actually pretty good. For some reason, I have an aversion to the actor Scott Bakula. I just feel like he is going to show up on any given show he is in, dressed as a cheerleader..it is not rational, I know... I can tell you, the episode in question, "Spock's Brain" was the first episode of the 3rd season... -

Even before that, didn't Murphy host a Smerlas and Haslett show on WBEN, during the "Talking Proud" era, around 1980-1983?
-
I like The John Murphy Show, in theory. I am glad it is on. I listen to it, or at least some of it, pretty much every day, on the archive section of Buffalo Bills.com. I am glad it is on. I must say, I really only started listening relgiously in the off-season. Only time I heard him during the season, was the Monday morning shows. Obviously ( ) there is a bit more to talk about then, so some of the weaknesses didn't show through as much. I think John Murphy is probably a really good guy. He has been covering the Bills, in some form or another since the Chuck Knox era. That said, I think he knows a lot about the Buffalo Bills, but I don't think of him as being super-knowledgable about the game of football. He is very general about everything... I realize he is a Bills employee, but he doesn't really have much give and take with his callers either. They call, state their opinion and he just says "ok" and goes on to the next caller. In general, the quality of his callers is pretty good..probably a lot of the same people night to night. Seems like there could be a little more banter between the host and the callers. At the start of the show, he will pretty much state his opinion on the topic of the day, if somebody says something that is contrary to what he thinks, he just says, "no, I disagree" and then it just kind of ends there...it is weird. I just don't understand the concept of taking callers if you really don't have any interest in hearing what they have to say. He isn't rude or disrespectful to the calllers, like Schoop... but the converstations are just all very surfacy. Now, just as it is here for the last 5 months or so, inevitably, he will get callers that question whether EJ is any good or not...he just won't pursue that line of thinking with the pereson, I am guessing, becuase there is a chance the caller might say something too negative. Of course, I think Murphy is just "alright" on the play by play too...not bad, mind you, but just kind of generic...competent, but not overly exciting. Just like the daily Sabres show, I kind of feel for Murphy, and Sylvester a bit... I am wondering if there is really a need for so much coverage during the off-season... but I still listen. I like the fact that he talks to some degree, about the other teams in the league. I also think he has some pretty cool guests at times...Lee Steinberg interview was great..Ken Crippen always great to hear...would love to hear him interview more older player from time to time....not just the Kelly-Super Bowl era guys, or the HOFer...but how about guys like Steve Freeman, or Jerry Butler...I have to think, with all that talk time he has, there has to be room for some of that stuff. Reminice a little more about the old days... I am sure some of these guys would love to talk.

Funny...I thought of that too. But, I realized, while I like the Kahn flick best of all, I never really thougt of it as one of the best episodes....though I did like Marla McGiver! -
Net Neutrality: why you should be concerned...

That is great! It was still down last night as well... For some reason, I am unable to inbed the clip into this thread, only the link (not a problem I normally have here), but it is worth clicking on. It is really a non-partisan issue, something I think we can all agree on...of course, this place has surprised me before! -

Both clips (Lincoln was in "Savage Curtain" and space hippies from "The Way to Eden") are from the third season... when there was a condiderable dip in the quality of the show. As I recall (and I am sure DC Tom will correct me if I am wrong), Gene Rodenberry had quit the show after the second season, as friction with NBC was too much for him to take... season three has a handful of decent episodes ("Enterprise Incident", "Paradise Sydrome", "Wink of an Eye" and "Day of the Dove" are best IMO), but by and large, had some of the more ludicrous stories, and some of the most comically awful episodes...still fun to watch..."Spocks Brain" may be the worst episode ever...though it had a planet of foxy ladies, looking for the perfecet maie brain to rule them...it was big with the feminists! A great codensed version of "Spocks Brain" http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2zKDQfVbWqc -
Couldn't agree more. I am not saying I don't like Marrone as head-coach (I am still neutural on this), but I find his press conferences/interviews pretty painful to listen too sometimes. He just doesn't make sense a lot of the time. And, I don't think he is a dumb guy, but he is so concernced about every word he utters, that he ends up not making a whole lot of sense sometimes...obviously.

Should the Bills Cut Dareus? - Jerry Sullivan Article
Buftex replied to MClem06's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Look around. Not to minimize the issues that Dareus has had, but they are not out of line with things that nearly every NFL team has going on with players right now, as we speak. So, what, the Bills should cut him, and let some other team pick him up, win a championship, and let him be their feel-good turnaround story? Just stop with the drama on everything... He has made some stupid mistakes to be sure... we all know that. Poor judgement. But, these aren't in the class of wife beating and other violent crimes that players acress the NFL become involved with. These are the kind of things your kid gets caught doing, or your nephew... a bit reckless, yes...but you thank god nobody got hurt. Immature...yes, but a kid can grow up. I know, I know, he isn't a kid, you say, because you are so fed up. I would hazard to guess though, the average NFL player tends to be on the little immature side. It speaks as much to the nature of the way players are coddled (especially blue-chippers like Dareus), than the quality of the individual. Just get your panties out their wad... -

Will have to re-watch it again someday...the rock creature always looked like a steaming turd. Of course, in The Devil In the Dark (one of my favorites), the horta creature looked like a dish of hamburger helper...
