Holy crap. I thought this story was funny and given the details I told Sammy about it. He went OFF on me calling me some very mean names. Then he told me what I can do with the p and all the rest of the letters that are actually in hamster. It was raunchy and a bit scary; even for him.

I read it and thought it sucked.....badly.......as a book. I almost stopped reading it 3 or 4 times as I found it trite and highly repetitive. It was as if he had enough material for a short story and added 90% filler. The movie was far worse. With that all said, you are 100% right about the theme. It was dead on.

Those were already sacrificed to the Pats "training program".

Well if there are tons of them and they are all smart wouldn't some of them want signals to get through? And if none of the signals get through why isn't the rest of the universe a projection made by these same aliens? Why is what we see actually real?

Re-read my post. They couldn't block our view without catching up to their earlier signals. I then granted that I could conceive of this happening.

A civilization couldn't conceivably block our view unless it caught up to its own previous unblocked signals floating through space. This seems conceivable but not with anything we currently know. Granted they'd know more. But if the universe is teeming with life wouldn't some want to block signals, some not care and sone actively want to send signals? Still crickets. Actually not even crickets.
