I'm pretty sure Lofton has a calming influence on a 21 year old fierce competitor that wants to compete & win. You characterize him as being a "big baby" but that's one opinion. Now, was this outburst you reference a common occurrence? An issue that was discussed in team meetings in preparation for an opponent that didn't translate well in the game? Who knows, but to label someone without knowing all the facts is baseless. Some teams put negative info out there for whomever to gobble up, i.e. the Bills with C. Glenn being a guard NOT a tackle...so who really know the situation? What I did see from him on the sideline was a lot a high five's & pats on the back for elite level play (I'll use that to characterize this player). Some look at it as a maturity thing, hell he was only 19-20 yrs old at the time... either way choosing a HOF'er to mentor you is a helluva step in understanding what it takes to make it in this league and in life off the field.

Sounds like your missing the point in regards to Mike Evans. His height is only part of the draw. He's also a playmaker with strong hands and has been a difference maker against top competition. Height and maybe separation is the only comparison between Evan's and James Hardy end of story. Hardy was not a YAC, move the chain type of player, let alone a playmaker against press coverage. Also Evan's is already working on his short-coming w/ James Lofton in the off season.

Sometime we complicate a simple matter. Thanks for pointing this out ^^^^^^! Whoever expected more out of a first year QB, OC and 1st year receivers were really setting themselves up to be disappointed, IMO. Let's hope for improvement in the 2nd yr with more familiarity of the talent at hand. Go Bills!!!!

I'll take the future #1 WR , chain mover & touchdown maker for $2000, Alex. Ebron is enticing but Evan has elite skills that are not coached i.e. - strong hands, leaping ability and YAK ! The coaches can work on techniques for separation & route running (He's been working w/ HOF James Lofton in the off-season already) plus he's shown that in press coverage the opposing DC will have to roll a safety over top, opening up more space for the others, CJ,Goodwin, Wood, Stevie & Chandler.

I like any one of the 3 OT that should be there, Tiny Richardson (Ideal RT, IMO), Moses Morgan or Alabama's Cyrus Kouandjio (his value has dropped because of arthritic issues) a true road grader that can move.

Change in running philosophy that makes CJ expendable?

I like A. Williams also in the late rounds, hopefully he's available. -

Bills- 5 years, $43.75 Mil, $25 Mil guaranteed. -
Not a bad draft at all. I wouldn't be mad if the first two picks went that way but the 3rd pick, I would take a big WR (Moncrief, Vany's Big wideout) if they were there...the Bills are in a good spot at #9.
-
I agree... I also like Lewan because he has the road grading ability to also play at RT. There are a couple schools of thought here for drafting: 1) Parcels believed that drafting the "big uglies" high in the draft to build the team, then get the QB to manage the game. Because he felt the RB & WR's skill set was so minute you could fill those position with a "JAG" - just a guy (until a true talent became available) and still win in the league...really can't argue with his results. 2) The other approach is to draft players regardless of position that are graded out as NFL talents. While Parcell's followed up his approach with a well detailed plan & great coaching this approach is effective. I think the Bills are at the point where we're solid at the big uglies position (could stand to improve) but could use some dynamic playmaking to help the young QB. I say look for players that has the qualities already at the elite level coming into the league (they all have weaknesses). Then coach up the weak areas of play... Players I would target that has an elite skill (Offense) level that the Bills lack at this time (all others are rd 2 & later): WR- Evans (size, play making, speed & hands this combination is elite), Watkins- all around play maker skill elite ( bigger P. Harvin, young Steve Smith hands &ball skills IMO) OT- Mathews ( foot speed & pass blocking), Lewan ( road grader, pass blocking & speed combination are elite) can also play the right side. TE- Ebron ( playmaking, ball skills and speed are elite level) IMO these are the only players that address & improve our team needs immediately. Any other player in this position group has a major drop off in the abilities in comparison or are comparable to what we already have on the team skill wise. If none of the guys are available when we pick go defense with the 1st pick...DE-Kony Ealy, LB-Mack, LB- Mosely,DE/LB-Barr (not in that order). Maybe even DB...

The reason why I like Evans the best is because: 1) We have a decent cast of speedy WR at the moment. He will have time to develop into the #1 WR spot. 2) He plays BIG in big games (btw,BIG PLUS) 3) Most of his receptions were 50/50 plays where he out worked his opponents (you can't teach that). 4) Big red zone threat, see #3. This will opens up runs lanes for FJ, CJ & EJ !!! 5) His ceiling is the highest. With good NFL coaching, he has enough natural skills to start while honing in the abilities needed to excel...I see a lot of qualities very common to A. Jefferies (but bigger & faster) when he came out of S Carolina.

Not sure about this but the biggest jump traditionally for first year starting players occur in their second season. Things should slow down for him this year and improvement in seeing the field ( if that's even the problem) should be observed. BTW, what were your expectations for the first year QB. IMO, his productions and pitfalls were to be expected, the injuries were an impediment that hindered his production but overall his play was not the reason the Bills failed to reach the playoffs. He has the qualities- intelligence, work ethic and temperament needed to be a very good player in the league. The Bills are very close we just need EJ to manage the game ( think Ryan, Dalton, Wilson)& hit the long ball when the right look is presented by the defense. Go Bills!

Cuomo appointees to explore new Bills Stadium

Whatever happen to this plan and they even identified some revenue sources...Its like this was never proposed ! http://www.buffalone.../121029746/1109 The Ralph needs to be demolished not rehabbed (may be used as a practice facility)...Can we stop settling for a chance! We need something that's going to be multi use & a draw for other activities. Partnering with the Strong Group and attaching a convention center to attract major conferences (i.e. Ga. Dome & conference center) during our spring & summer months will fill a void in the dormant periods. It's time for this region to come to grips or get off the pot...Major sports want sexy & vibrant Cities NOT ho-hum & boring!!! After a game the region needs to project an image to outsiders that the region is on the upswing, think Indy, KC, Pitts & Minny these stadiums are surrounded by the city most vibrant attractions...NOT in the middle of no where, how does that project on TV, to others or future FA's? This is how the spin cycle in this area kills all creative ideas by sticking with the same ole thing (how's that working out for us?)!!! By brainwashing all to think that we can't...so we don't! Come on haven't we settled enough with the substandard & mediocre ? What's to gain by dreaming "small"? This is the big leagues NOT club sports. -
WTH, Cleveland? If this was in the plans all along. Why not have him involved with the coaching selection, instead of the other two stiff's? http://msn.foxsports.com/ohio/story/browns-announced-front-office-changes-021114

This little illustration is an example of how the more things change, the more they stay the same ! Why do we always look to place blame on who's who to get credit for this or that? This is how we stay buckled down in the mumble jumble of the political limelight and who gets credit or blame (so provincial & typical)...Just get it done & Move on !!! Gotta love this place...so set on destruction from within! -
Prospect of the week: Colt Lyerla, TE, Oregon
pimp 2 replied to Estro's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I really liked this guy as a prospect but the issues are bigger than him playing in the NFL. No question he has the talent but the issues addressed just on this board, screams that this guy needs serious help and doesn't need the distraction of trying to compete on the highest level. I say let him handle is legal issues and then monitor his progress if he keeps his nose clean (no pun intended) then bring him in as a street FA...With these issue hovering, he's no more than a UDFA in this draft with 2-3rd rd talent. -
Draft: Donte Moncrief WR Ole Miss
pimp 2 replied to thebandit27's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
He's my dark horse pick if the Bills decide to wait until the 3rd rd to pick a wideout. I youtubed his highlights and he had some big games against LSU, Arkansas & Alabama. He reminds me of a young Eric Moulds that also plays special teams...a quality that adds extra value. -
T. Jackson forgot his time in buffalo
pimp 2 replied to Pills -N- Bills's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
A bit of a stretch here, pssst- It's not always about taking a shot at Buffalo. Sometimes it like the "battered wife syndrome" with some... Just remove the locale and look at the facts...How dare he try to forget about a time where he floated in obscurity and was NOT given a chance to compete against other mediocre QB's. For an organization that hasn't sniffed the post season or been a contender in years. Fate gave him a reprieve with a familiar situation & it all worked out fine, leave it at that ! He spent more time in Seattle & Minny then he did here anyway. Good luck TJax (even though I'm going with the Bronco's, haha). -
Detroit Defense: New Bills defense
pimp 2 replied to Buffalo Barbarian's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
How bout we wait & see how Schwartzy How about we just wait and see what the new DC decides is best after his evaluation of the talent on hand. I understand its fun trying to figure out & be the first to say so...being a fan of last years promising defense, there were areas for improvement. I'm giving Marrone the benefit of the doubt here, he seems to be very detailed oriented as per this report , http://www.buffalonews.com/columns/bucky-gleason/bills-foresight-results-in-quick-dc-hire-20140126?two-bills-drive . So when picking a new DC I'm pretty sure he had to have the talent at hand in mind and a fit for who would be best to manage in the event of any staff changes. If not he could have just promoted from within for continuity sakes. Also coaches at this level have been exposed to so many different philosophy's through clinic's and conferences, they are more knowledgeable/flexible and less rigid than in the past. Schwartz's specialty was 3rd down efficiency and run defense in his previous coaching stints these are areas of need on this defense. I'll admit that I was looking forward to continued improvement from the Pettine approach but I'm not seeing the same ole Bills approach here...I'm commending them. Go Bills! -
Bills hire Jim Schwartz DC, Todd Downing QB coach
pimp 2 replied to FluffHead's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Good pick, IMO. He's done a good job against his mentor, Belicheat in the past . He has experience coaching against the NFC North, which we happen to play against this season. Strategic move by Whaley, Marrone & Co... -
Isn't that typically how it works (draft wise)? A player that you value high but hope others don't...then as your plan seems to fall in-line, D'ope! BTW, if our draft falls like your mock did... I would be ecstatic!
