  1. Great job, as always, Lori. People love to look at stats and think they know the whole story. This isn't fantasy football. If you look at stats, you need to see them in context of the entire situation. Looking things up in an encyclopedia tells you nothing without the proper context.
  2. Shaw is a lock. Sestak and Dubenion are a strong possibility. Also, McKenzie. I am not sure how Simpson will fair with the voters.
  3. Mark VI no longer visits the board. I will pass on your comments, buftex As far as the AFL Bills, I was born in 1969, so I never saw the AFL teams live. I am fortunate, however, to see game films from that era and from the original Bills from the 1940s. When I voted for the 50th Anniversary team, I was able give a few AFL'ers some love. I was not happy with some of the committee's selections, but there is not much I can do about it. In the end, you will probably see Billy Shaw and possibly one other AFLer on the team (probably Sestak or Dubenion). Otherwise, it will just be the 1990s Bills representing the team. It's a shame that a major anniversary will focus mainly on the accomplishments of four years. On another note, I just recently found out that the '64 and '65 championship game films do exist. I am trying to work out a deal to get a copy.
  4. It was a definite improvement over the 1946 logo (the Buffalo Bisons logo, which you can see on the same site).
  5. Since my next book is on that Buffalo Bills franchise, it was pretty easy to find. Also, the link is to my website, so not much digging was necessary. [/shameless plug]
  6. HFBD, big guy!!
  7. As Lori mentioned, it was normal for the time frame. Keep in mind that the logos did not appear on the uniforms. You just saw them in the media guides, programs and other items.
  8. The current Buffalo Bills were named to honor the original Buffalo Bills of the All-America Football Conference. Their logo was Buffalo Bill Cody riding a Buffalo. Check out the bottom of this page to see it. The name arose from a combination of the city name and from the ownership of the team. The owner (Jim Breuil) also owned Frontier Oil in Buffalo. Frontier...wild west...Buffalo Bill Cody.
  9. Montana and Baugh. How would you rank them?
  10. 5-10 are kinda muddled for me. He is definitely top 10, but I am not sure exactly where I would rank him. I have him ahead of Favre, but I am not sure how I rank him against Young. I would probably rank them Elway, Young, Favre. All would be top 10.
  11. The bolded statement describes Graham, as well. I disagree that he was just a product of his system. He was like his coach: he left nothing to chance. He would evaluate himself to see if he had any tendencies so that he could correct them. Regardless of the situation, you know that you could count on him to drive down the field for a score. I talked to players who played with him and against him. They all said that regardless of how you defended him, he would still kill you. He was a master field general. He did it at a high level and did it his entire career and the players who played with him and against him agree.
  12. No. That would never happen. Everything is evaluated in a vacuum. Take your nonsense elsewhere.
  13. Why? Because if they played before the merger, then they can't possibly be better?
  14. Yup. Take away tuck rules, roughing the passer penalties, the ability to throw the ball away outside the tackle box, shots to the head and everything else put into today's game to protect quarterback and they would not nearly be as successful.
  15. I'll show you the game films and you can decide for yourself.
  16. uh..huh...
  17. 1. Otto Graham 2. Johnny U. 3-4. Baugh/Montana or Montana/Baugh Manning is not in the same class as those 4.
  18. ...but.....I've heard of him. Therefore, we should sign him.
  19. Is your scroll lock on?
  20. People do not give Hutson enough credit because he played too long ago. I would also put Hutson ahead of Rice. IMO, Unitas is #2 behind Graham, but I have already beaten that to death on this board. Yup.
  21. Well, that shows you the quality of those lists.
  22. Why?
  23. You have to be the elite of the elite to be in the HOF, IMO. Being great is not good enough. You also have to play at that elite level for an extended period of time over a long career. That is why people like Spec Sanders and Mac Speedie are not in and will never get in. Now, to actually be inducted by the buffoons on the selection committee, the criteria is completely different. If you have an average career, all you need to do is get into broadcasting and you will get in. You also have to bow down to the greatness of the committee and not criticize them (hear that Carter and Keuch?). The media is only allow to criticize the players. They should not be criticized. Bob Hayes? WTF are you smoking? He has absolutely no business getting into the HOF. He had about three HOF years. After that, he was average. How the F do you make it into the HOF based on only three years of HOF production?[/rant]
  24. Congrats to the Class of 2009!! I will reserve my comments on the class for another time.
  25. <sigh> Fred Jackson: 45 Throws for a 82% completion rate. Therefore, out of the 45 passes thrown to Jackson, he caught 82 percent of them. Marshawn Lynch: 67 Throws for a 70% completion rate. Therefore, out of the 67 passes thrown to Lynch, he caught 70 percent of them.
