  1. And if you put Reggie and Bruce back in the 1920s, they would be dragging their carcasses off the field before halftime. Deacon dominated under the rules. Smith and White dominated under the rules. Where you need to argue is how dominant they were in their respective eras. As you can see from the above example, trying to put players into different eras for comparison is not very effective.
  2. In the AFL expansion, possibly. In the NFL, no way.
  3. Now, you're getting picky.
  4. He went to banned camp.
  5. If you need to compare would-be inductees to the weakest members of the Hall in order to make a point, the point was not that strong to begin with.
  6. That's probably not the strongest argument, since the HOF voters regularly put people in the HOF that are not deserving of the honor.
  7. Exactly. The Tampa 2 pretty much looks like a cover 2 pre-snap and morphs into a cover 3 after the snap.
  8. Winning hurts the franchise.
  9. For the first three to four years. After that, not so much. Not really the qualifications for a HOFer. Yup. Then they found the trick to defending him and his production dropped. Zone defenses were around before Hayes entered the league. Steve Owen (Giants) was experimenting with zone defenses in the early 50s in order to slow down Cleveland's offensive firepower. Hayes was only good for the first few seasons of his career. After that, nothing extraordinary. Humphrey is the better senior candidate this year, but the free buffet seekers club...errr...selection committee will only take in one senior candidate and since Z is having health issues, they will elect Hayes for him.
  10. ...or they could trade down and not worry about the bonus money.
  11. Bruce is a lock. Andre waits (honestly, I suspect that Andre has to wait until he hits the senior abyss). Ralph does not make it. Here is how I see it breaking down... Cris Carter: They will induct him this year. Dermontti Dawson: Possibility. Richard Dent: Sorry, not getting in when he is going against Bruce. Russ Grimm: He waits a year or two. Bob Hayes: They will induct him to honor Dr. Z. Claude Humphrey: Sorry. Same as Dent. Cortez Kennedy: See above. Bob Kuechenberg: Nope. Randall McDaniel: I see him getting inducted. John Randle: Possibly this year, but probably next year. He will not have to wait long. Andre Reed: He is not getting in the same year as Carter and I see Carter getting inducted first. Shannon Sharpe: I don't see them putting in too many first ballot guys in any one year, but I see Sharpe getting in with Bruce and Woodson. Bruce Smith: He is in. Paul Tagliabue: They were purposely waiting on Tags. He was a commissioner, so he is guaranteed a spot, but he might have to wait another year. If he does not make it this year, he will be in within the next year or two. Derrick Thomas: Not this year. Ralph Wilson: Maybe next year, but I doubt it. Rod Woodson: He is in. Modern Era: Carter, McDaniel, Sharpe, Smith, Woodson (They will always max this out, since they want to induct as many players as possible) Senior: Hayes (They will elect a token candidate from the seniors each year. If it were up to the selectors, they would eliminate the seniors and expand the modern-era candidates to 50 each year ) There are five DL up this year and I see a lot canceling each other out. The only lock is Bruce. There might be a second DL elected, but the lower tier players will have to wait. If a second is inducted, it will probably be Randle. Carter's induction will keep 'Dre out. Hayes will be the only senior elected and I think that it will be to honor Dr. Z more than to honor Hayes. That gives a second WR, which further hurts 'Dre. Now, that is how I see it playing out. I do not agree with it, but I have issues with the selection committee letting in substandard players.
  12. But, how many times have you skied with Beerball?
  13. I am glad that you guys enjoyed them.
  14. Here is your final Historical Game of the Week for this season. Send me your requests for next year's schedule. For the bye week, I will cover any major-league professional game by a WNY team. I can also cover the 1940 Buffalo Indians and 1941 Buffalo Tigers.
  15. ...and you are?
  16. 38 sacks allowed. LT Bryant McKinnie (1st-2002) LG Steve Hutchinson (1st-2001) C Matt Birk (6th-1998) RG Anthony Herrera (Not Drafted) RT Ryan Cook (2nd-2006)
  17. Maybe you will like the one going amongst the Iggles fans several years ago... "Philadelphia Eagles football practice was delayed nearly two hours late this morning after a player reported finding an unknown white powdery substance on the practice field. Head coach Rich Kotite immediately suspended practice while police and federal agents were called to investigate. After a complete analysis, FBI forensic experts determined that the white substance, unknown to the players, was the goal line. Practice was resumed this afternoon after special agents decided the team was unlikely to encounter the substance again.." They also had one with Ray Rhodes, but it wasn't as good: "Philadelphia Eagles football practice was delayed nearly two hours late this morning after a player reported finding an unknown white powdery substance on the practice field. Head coach Ray Rhodes immediately suspended practice while police and federal agents were called to investigate. After a complete analysis, FBI forensic experts determined that the white substance, unknown to the players, was the goal line. Practice was resumed this afternoon after special agents decided the team was unlikely to encounter the substance again.."
  18. The joke was completely different back in the 90s: "Buffalo Bills football practice was delayed nearly two hours late this morning after a player reported finding an unknown white powdery substance on the practice field. Head coach Marv Levy immediately suspended practice while police and federal agents were called to investigate. After a complete analysis, FBI forensic experts determined that the white substance, unknown to the players, was the goal line. Practice was resumed this afternoon after special agents decided the team was unlikely to encounter the substance again.." I think I also saw this one, which is also good: "Buffalo Bills football practice was delayed nearly two hours late this morning after a player reported finding an unknown white powdery substance on the practice field. Head coach Wade Phillips immediately suspended practice while police and federal agents were called to investigate. After a complete analysis, FBI forensic experts determined that the white substance, unknown to the players, was the goal line. Practice was resumed this afternoon after special agents decided the team was unlikely to encounter the substance again.."
  19. Since I know that nobody is actually going to look it up: Giants starting line according to their depth chart online (I didn't look up injuries): LT David Deihl (5th round-2003) LG Rich Seubert (Not Drafted) C Shaun O'Hara (Not Drafted) RG Chris Snee (2nd round-2004) RT Kareem McKenzie (3rd round-2001) Since RICH mentioned the Titans: LT Michael Roos (2nd round-2005) LG Eugene Amano (7th round-2004) C Kevin Mawae (2nd round-1994) RG Jake Scott (5th round-2004) RT David Stewart (4th round-2005)
  20. I LOVE watching those old films. I am going to need to break out some of the game films I have from the 30s and 40s over the weekend to watch them again.
