  1. If it is Rich Eisen, I am going to have to hurt someone. I made the mistake of watching the NFL Network coverage last year. NEVER again.
  2. I just posted a new article in the Two Bills Drive history section, detailing the 1926 NFL season of the Buffalo Rangers. Linky Thingy Let me know what you think.
  3. It depends on your definition of the West Coast Offense. If you use the basic definition of the West Coast philosophy, then the Chargers used it first (and you could make a case for other AFL teams, as well), and it spread into the college ranks before Walsh got to SF. If you only limit it to the Walsh variation of the West Coast Offense, then the Bengals were first, before SF. Either way you look at it, SF was not the first to use it.
  4. You can read this while you are waiting.
  5. Now you did it. I blame you if they show up.
  6. It remains to be seen how the merger will impact retired players. There are some outspoken people associated with Fourth and Goal, but they will only have six of the 15 reformed board seats. I am wondering if this is going to mute their voice. The Alumni Association still wants to support children's charities, so I wonder how much of the money raised will go to the players and not the children's charities. The Alumni Association has said that they are scaling back and moving more towards focusing on the retired players, but I have not seen actual numbers as to how far they are scaling back. I think that stuff still needs to be worked out.
  7. There is no question that Smith is moving in the right direction and the retired players have taken notice. I would say the attitude from the players I have talked to is "cautiously optimistic." Smith is saying the right things and has shown (at least in the EA case), that it is not just talk. Still, it takes time to undo the damage created by Upshaw.
  8. Smith is definitely off to a good start with the retired players, but I think that he needs to do more before they will get on board with him. There was a lot of bad blood with Upshaw and Smith is going to need to do more to earn back the good will. Regardless, I agree with your assessment that they need the influence of the retired players in the upcoming negotiations. The last thing Smith needs is to fight a war on two fronts.
  9. This should be interesting.
  10. If it is football books, then I would be OK with it. I really do not read much outside of that genre, so anything else and I would be out (not enough time to read other stuff with the research I am doing).
  11. Exactly. Where better to learn receiving skills than with the receivers coaches and players.
  12. It's always fun to talk to the old players. He sounds like a fun interview.
  13. It takes time and effort to analyze game film. It is simple to look up a number. When people talk about the "greatest of all-time" at whatever position, but only use stats to make their point, it just proves that they don't know what they are talking about. As you said...simple things for simple minds.
  14. With proper care, dogs can undergo an amazing transformation. Good for your MIL for rescuing that dog and giving NEMO a wonderful home.
  15. It is extremely critical that you examine the family dynamic before introducing another dog. If the dogs lived together for a while, then you can introduce two at once. If you have an existing dog, you can't just pick any dog to enter the house or you will have a problem. You can get a submissive GSD to work with the alpha, but if you have two alphas, you are going to have more of a problem.
  16. You are correct. They see the cute little puppy and fall in love with the dog and take him/her home. Then, reality sets in. We have had several GSD's come into the shelter because the owners "didn't realize that he would be a big dog." I am sorry to hear about your pooch. He is fortunate to be living in such a good home!!
  17. Yup. Neglect...abuse. It is far too prevalent. Seeing the malnourished and abused dogs come into the shelter is heartbreaking. My GSD was abused by the breeder. The breeder regularly beat him. He liked his brother better. Sounds like a good excuse, right? It's sad whenever you see stuff like that. Those same owners will then complain that their dog has "behavioral issues" and they can no longer deal with it.
  18. To a degree, you are correct. But, you will also see a substantial difference in natures within the breed. Hell, within the same litter, you will see drastically different natures. Meeting the mom is a good thing when evaluating a dog, but it is only a small part. You can have pups from the same litter experiencing vastly different personalities. You can't just pick any dog from the litter an expect them all to be similar in nature.
  19. A fenced-in yard gives you the ability to allow the dog to run free in your back yard and not have to be put on a leash. This allows you to play with the dog and have the necessary bonding experience with play. That is very important. Just having them roam in the backyard is not enough. You need to play with the dog for the necessary bonding and dissipation of energy. The height of the fence is also important. A GSD can jump over a 4' fence with ease. We like to see a 6' fence. Regardless, you bring up excellent points. GSD's are energetic dogs. They need exercise. You can't just dump them in the yard and forget about them. You need to burn off that energy every day. Otherwise, you will get behavioral issues (as you mentioned). That is why we spend so much time and effort evaluating not only the dog, but the potential adopter. If you place the wrong dog with a family, the dog will just end up back at a shelter. Depending on the issues surrounding the abandoning, it could mean a death sentence for the dog. We would rather see the dog stay in foster care until we find the right home.
  20. Ahhh...The Ed defense. Brilliant. It worked well for him, so you should have no trouble. ...and you do it with reckless abandon. Everywhere. Regardless of topic. I've lost count. Same with the other breeds. It's on the intertubes. It must be legit. +1 for the post count. Now, I just need to respond to every post on every other thread and I will get close to your post counts. Don't worry, I will also respond to the posts where I have absolutely no clue what I am talking about. Fair is fair, right?
  21. How is the philosophy different from a breeder? You shouldn't go to a bad rescue. It is really no different than going to a bad breeder. The concept is the same. Our rescue has no trouble telling people what breeds would be a better fit for them than a GSD. Any good rescue will care more about getting the right dog into the right home, than just getting any dog into a home. We have a network of rescues for various breeds. If we think a Yorkie is a better fit for the household, we will forward them to a Yorkie rescue. If we find a Boston Terrier that needs a home, we work with a Boston Terrier rescue to get that dog into foster care until a permanent home is found.
  22. Which is flat-out false. My opinion is based on actual experience with evaluating dogs. Yours is based on what you pull up on Goggle. What part of that is too difficult for you to understand? Again, ignorance like yours is what causes problems for shepherds. Stop. +1 for the post count. Only 12,465 more and I will equal your daily output.
