Fall Developmental League (FXFL) to launch - will it work?
KRC replied to YoloinOhio's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
You are referring to the original AFL of 1926, right? Or the multiple AFL's in the 1930s and 1940s? -
Thanks, everyone!!

Unfortunately, both of my books are just in printed format.

Jeffrey Miller wrote a great book on the pro teams in Buffalo in the 1920s. I encourage everyone to get a copy. I have written articles on pro football in Buffalo from 1917 through 1919, as well as stuff on the Rochester Jeffersons. There is really not much on the teams in WNY that played in the various AFL's of the late 1930s through early 1940s. Rosters and schedules have been published, but that is it.

John Murphy asked me to be on his show tonight at 8pm EST. The topics will include: -The PFRA's Hall of Very Good (update since I was on his show last year) -The PFRA Meeting being hosted by the Cleveland Browns -My book on the "Original Buffalo Bills" Tune in if you have a chance. I know that they also podcast the shows, so that is also an option if you cannot tune in live.

NFL Teams came to Buffalo throughout the 1920s to compete against Buffalo. You can also toss Rochester in the mix, if you want all of Western New York. Buffalo also hosted several teams before 1967 (albeit, not against a Buffalo team): Pittsburgh Pirates vs. Philadelphia Eagles 9/16/38 Chicago Cardinals vs. Green Bay Packers 9/28/38 Chicago Cardinals vs. Detroit Lions 9/15/40 Chicago Cardinals vs. Cleveland Rams 9/13/42 Philadelphia Eagles vs. Brooklyn Dodgers 9/27/42 Chicago Cardinals vs. Detroit Lions 10/17/43 Chicago Cardinals vs. New York Giants 9/28/58

I still remember the night that my wife and I were at his home. He and I both had guitars in our hands and all three of us were signing "California Dreamin'." After that, Paul and I talked about North Korea. The man could talk about anything. RIP Paul.

Football in Bflo from a historical standpoint

From the second article: I can tell you that is just flat out wrong. First, the Ohio League never existed. People still claim that it does, but it is just a myth. Second, the PFRA does not care where the team played. They chose the strongest team, and the strongest team happened to play in Ohio. Next, Buffalo screwed themselves in 1921. They saw what happened to them in 1920, and yet they still thought that they could just end the season whenever they wanted. Secondly, why would you schedule a game against Decatur the day after you played Akron. Especially, when you screwed yourself over the sharing of players with another team? Since both of these articles used me as source material, I would have hoped that they would get it right. Finally, there were two teams that played in Buffalo in the many incarnations of the AFL: 1940 Buffalo Indians and the 1941 Buffalo Tigers. Not on the same level as the NFL, but at least it was pro football. -
I saw a commercial for a TV show, where the one character said, "Instagram is just Twitter for people who can't read." Never got into Instagram, Pinterest, Google+, etc. I will stick with Facebook and Twitter. Now, get off my lawn!! As far as the email, I would not do it. As mentioned previously, if you pass him in the hall, then shake his hand and welcome him to the company. Keep it professional.

NFL.com: Readers Vote Johnny U. Greatest QB of All Time
KRC replied to 26CornerBlitz's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Baugh was not even on the list. Otto was beat by Bradshaw. Russell Wilson beat Peyton Manning. -
Breuil was out before Buffalo tried to get into the NFL in 1950. It was a citizen's group that tried to get Buffalo into the league.

It depends on what type of beer you are brewing. Kevin mentioned 68-75 degrees. For some ale yeasts, that is too high. I brewed a Belgian ale and the perfect temperature was between 65 and 68 for that yeast. If I started to get close to 70, I would get a strong banana note. Get below 65 degrees and fermentation slowed. If you do a lager, you want to be somewhere around 45 to 55 degrees. Of course, you can get crazy and use a lager yeast, but ferment it at ale temperatures (cough...Anchor Steam...cough).

Article on 'Tonawanda Kardex,' early NFL, quoting TBD regular
KRC replied to l< j's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
They kinda screwed themselves. $1934 for the book? Damn. I'll sell you an autographed copy for less than that. How does an even $1900 sound? Thank you for the compliments. -

I am not sure I said “They got spanked pretty bad” in the interview, but whatever. -
I did. I bought a Ford Explorer. I drove a few hundred miles on it and the airbag light went on. I took it into the shop and they "fixed" it. By the time I drove it out of the parking lot at the dealer, the light went back on. I got it back a second time, and went a few hundred more miles. The light went back on. I had a lawyer write a letter to Ford (cost me $25) mentioning blah, blah, Lemon Law, blah, blah, blah. Ford contacted the dealer. Overnight, they installed a completely new wiring harness in the car. Never had the problem again.

We thread should really be renamed "The top five QBs of my recent memory." Here are my top four, based on film study: Graham Unitas Baugh Montana I could switch Baugh and Unitas without too much argument, but Unitas has a slight edge. I would probably put Brady or Manning at five, but I have a general rule that I do not put careers into historical perspective until the careers are complete. There is no question that Graham is the greatest of all time. Went 29 straight games without a defeat. That is starting in one season losing only one game. Winning the championship game that season. Going undefeated the following season and winning the championship. Then going into the following season, only losing one game, then winning the championship. Ten straight championship game appearances in a ten year career, winning seven championships. Nobody in history even comes close. You watch him play and you see a true field general. Never looked fazed. Even when he was down, you knew that he would come back and win it. And for those who disparage the AAFC and say it was a "minor league, therefore those four years don't count" know nothing about the league. I have probably watched more film of that league than most people and comparing it to the film of the NFL at the time, there is no question that the AAFC was just as good, if not better, than the NFL. If you don't believe me, I have interviewed a lot of players who played in both leagues. ALL have said that the AAFC was just as strong, if not stronger, than the NFL. None said that the NFL was better. Again, these are players who played in BOTH leagues, not just players who played in one league.

They are waiting on the NFL to approve the script. They expect that to happen soon. At that point, they will proceed.
