  1. Excellent book. I definitely recommend it.
  2. It is more than just offense that creates winning teams. It helps to have an offense that can score, but if your defense sucks, it does not matter. [lamp] If you want to look at rushing efficiencies, look at this article. It shows how each team stacks up in offensive rushing efficiency, defensive rushing efficiency and efficiency differential between offense and defense. [/lamp]
  3. In typical Philadelphia fan fashion, he will be back as soon as they start winning again.
  4. I highly recommend Garbarino's book. He has been sending me drafts of the book for comments and editing throughout the writing process. Good insight into Cookie, written in Cookie's own words. I am not sure if it has been released yet. If not, it should be out shortly.
  5. Thanks for cleaning that up for me before posting it.
  6. How about just rooting for the Bills to win? If they win out, then it doesn't matter what the other teams do.
  7. Just like historical game footage, they just do not see enough of a market to get a return on investment with the All-22 footage. The reasons given in the article are lame, but that does not mean there is any sort of conspiracy. One talking head said that fans will make criticisms of players/coaches, without watching enough film to accurately educate themselves on multiple games and schemes. Ummm...they do that now. Hell, people complain without even watching the games, just highlights. Fans will criticize. That is what they do. Get over it. As a guy who watches a lot of historical game film, I absolutely soak up game footage. That is how you accurately assess players and teams throughout history. Some of those films are All-22s, which gives great insight. The All-22s from current games would be wonderful to see. However, I do not see them offering it anytime soon.
  8. Agreed. Kids...Let this be a lesson to you. Don't grow up to be like Simon. A self-important nobody on a power trip, who allows his bitterness toward certain individuals to "force" him to crap all over an otherwise decent thread. He complains when other people do it (even ban people for it), but it is perfectly acceptable for him to do it. Hypocrite.
  9. He is the one doing the bitching and we are the miserable ones? What a dip#$!%
  10. Exactly. Unless you own the company, you have to live by the bad decisions of your bosses. We all have to live with the consequences of bad decisions by our elected officials. You buy products where the bosses made bad decisions and you are impacted with substandard products. Life is filled with these types of things. The kids are now learning those lessons. Sucks for the kids, but that is life.
  11. I didn't waste my time with the list since it was a slideshow. My guess is that the criteria used was passer rating over the last 20 years. Anyone want to post the list?
  12. Preaching to the choir... A little more detail... Press Release
  13. I think that they are just releasing the stuff that has already been released.
  14. Congrats!! We just celebrated our 8th a few weeks ago.
  15. Happy Birthday to the best wife a guy could ever have: Mrs. KRC!!! Oh, and to that Rubeo fellow and TheBiscuit. Happy Birthday, All!!!
  16. Darren McFadden is also making an early case.
  17. Victory's Hop Devil is my favorite IPA. For IIPA, I like Kryptonite, made my a local microbrew Iron Hill.
  18. A quick article on Al Davis
  19. R.I.P. Al. You were one of a kind.
  20. Yup. Landry played for New York. Lou Saban was a linebacker for the Cleveland Browns. Don Shula played for the Browns shortly after the AAFC folded. But, you are correct. The Browns were absolutely awesome. I have game films from those days and it is truly a sight to behold.
  21. Buffalo was the only one who thought it was a scrimmage, because they claimed themselves as champions. Nobody else in the league thought that was the case. As I mentioned, there was no "end of the season." Therefore, the second game counted. Hell, non-league games counted. As far as Halas' claim of the second game counting more than the first, that was standard practice well before 1921.
  22. Thank you.
  23. There was an NFL team in the 1920s. I have records of pro football teams in Buffalo going back to the turn of the 20th century.
  24. Since I am being paged, I thought I would answer some of the questions here: Jim Breuil owned the team. Ralph had no affiliation with the team. Four seasons. Cleveland and SF were always going to be absorbed into the NFL when the AAFC folded. The issue was the third team. Buffalo put together a good presentation, but they got screwed. George Preston Marshall did not want Baltimore, but he changed his mind when the NFL tossed a lot of money his way. Not correct. I have no idea where that came from. If you want to blame anyone, you need to blame Bert Bell. He promised Buffalo that he would provide an NFL schedule with Buffalo included when Buffalo made their presentation to the other NFL owners. Bell never did that. Dan Reeves (owner of the LA Rams) said that he would not vote until a schedule was put together. Reeves' vote killed Buffalo's bid. They changed to the Bills after the 1946 season. Nope. It was a write-in contest. Breuil owned Frontier Oil. The winner of the contest made the connection==>Frontier Oil==>Wild West==>Buffalo==>Buffalo Bill Cody. Ralph named his team in honor of the AAFC Buffalo Bills. Shameless plug: The Original Buffalo Bills Halas voted against it because he did not want a 14-team league. Reeves, Tony Morabito, Halas and Ray Bennigsen (Chicago Cardinals) voted no to Buffalo's admission into the NFL. Halas did not have it in for Buffalo. According to the rules of the time, he won the 1921 title legitimately. Whether it was ethical is another story. There was no official end to the season back then. Therefore, he continued to play until he had the necessary record. Buffalo's problem was that they scheduled two games in subsequent days, with the last game being against Chicago. Stupid move on their part.
  25. Just a clarification, no special dispensation required for the APFA, since it was not a separate league. As far as the original point, voters pretty much use whatever criteria they want to get people elected. Whether they should use other criteria is a different story. I think that if you played major-league pro ball, that should be considered. However, I do not place a high priority on stats when it comes to HOF induction, so it really does not sway me much. I have always said that stats without context are meaningless.
