I like reading his analysis, but I agree that his overall conclusion undersells our talent. But we are all buying into the hype from camp that Lawson is emerging, Zay and Tre look good, etc. Regardless, we are far from a bottom 5 team in terms of talent. But between some unknowns with depth and new coaches I get the lowballing. Don't care what they say now as long as they put it together in September and beyond.

Been saying it for the past couple years, but the talent is there and I like our off-season moves. We will see if McDermott has what it takes but I think these guys can surprise a lot of folks.

Absolutely. But I feel like teams could and should be playing a little more aggressive with the 2-point conversions early on in the game, when there isn't as much riding on a single point. The Steelers were going for 2 early and often and found plenty of success doing so. Before they moved the conversion kick back it was definitely a "bird in hand" situation, but with the number of missed XP's after the move I expect the trend to move steadily toward teams going for two more often.

Basically this. I agree with your points but do not believe they are "protecting" him by any means. He knows the system, which makes him a valuable player-coach during camp. I think that's the extent of it. My thinking is Peterman comes in and learns the offense well enough to execute in preseason and then they cut Yates before week 1. Peterman would have to be awful for them to keep all three guys on the roster.

Oh man, Pears was sooooo bad. I think the O Line is mostly spectacular at run blocking but the pass pro is spotty, particularly on the right side. I agree that Wood is average, but he's become a fan favorite for other reasons and it seems to overshadow some of his poor play. I would have half a mind to start Groy at center at this point.

Goodwin always looks good in camp. He is talented - a better receiver than some have given him credit for in terms of ability - he just gets hurt too often.
