Fine. Let them open up a store on their own dime. That would be great. Is Bass Pro getting federal, state, and county funding in the amount of $66 million to open up all of their other stores? To say that this store is going to increase tourism to such an extent to justify the millions in public money that is going to spent on this is ludicrous. I would rather that the following be done: Use the money ($66 million) and tax breaks to get Toyota (just by way of example) to build a hybrid manufacturing plant in WNY or something else that is going to create jobs in WNY. Just a thought.

I just don't understand spending all that money on a Bass Pro. Come on, is that really going to contribute to the renaissance of Buffalo. There is a Brass Pro in Ft. Lauderdale. I have been there a couple of times. It is fine. I just do not see "tourists" traveling to Buffalo to go to an outdoor store. The money would be better spent on something else.

Five words: Screw those whining Carolina Hurricanes.

Regarding US soccer, we have come a long way. We are fun to watch. Our goalkeeping is world class. Yet, we just do not have the ball skills that the elite teams have. Watch Brazil and the Dutch, for example, and you will see. Our first touches are not particularly good. We are not able to control possession. Nevertheless, we have come a long way. We have some athletes who played their hearts out yesterday. It would have been nice to get the win, but the tie was very encouraging after that miserable performance against the Czech Republic.

Forza Italia against the Czech republic. Nevertheless, as much talent that Italy has, I always get truly pissed off watching them take the dives that they take when they are playing teams that I support. It was ridiculous yesterday just as it was ridiculous when they played the Dutch in Euro 2000. How is it that a ref who previously was suspended for "irregularities" is refereeing a World Cup match. It reminds me of when the NCAA allowed Terry Porter to ref the UM v. OSU National Championship game. Let's just hope that the US can beat Ghana (which will be a very tough match) and Italy can beat the Czech Republic. One of the things that worries me is that Italy may play for the tie if that is all it takes to get into the next round.

My mom lives in the house that I grew up in. She is having problems with the pool. It needs to be re-surfaced, there is a leak, and the concrete deck needs to be repaired/replaced. I live here in Miami and am going up to Buffalo next week for my mom's birthday. I would like to contact someone in the Buffalo area about getting quotes to re-surface the pool and do the other repairs. Do any of you guys have any recommendations? I obviously would like to contact someone who does good work and is reasonably priced. My mom had contacted one of the companies in Buffalo, and I think that they are trying to take advantage of her big time. Thanks for any advice and/or recommendations. Peter

You are mostly correct. As I recall, however, Bruce had earlier refused to get a flu shot. Because he did not get a flu shot, he probably was responsible for getting the flu in the first instance. Nevertheless, the guy was a great player for the Bills and I am glad that he was on our team for most of his career.
