Starbucks Fans...Whadayathink of this new idea?
Mr Info replied to IDBillzFan's topic in Off the Wall Archives
This is a bit OT so my apologies to the OP. I have tried Starbucks several times (actually, at locations world-wide) but now will only go there if I am unable to locate an alternative. The reasons behind my avoidance are the following: I have been able to find better, more affordable coffee at other coffee shops. Due to Starbucks large # of stores, this affordability may be negated from travel to another coffee shop. Sometimes, I may want something to eat with coffee and Starbucks' food is identical or similar no matter the location. Some (perhaps most) people like this consistency but not me. IMO, I do not find their food flavorful or interesting. I tend to favor independent eateries over chains. It takes a bit more homework on my part to find good, local coffee shops/eating establishments but typically it has been worth the time. I have been able to find places that have creative and/or homemade foods and beverages with local ingredients or with a regional flair to them. Usually, the servers at the independent establishments are more engaged and knowledgeable about their fare than the staff at their corporate competitors. -
LAMP: Spending a Month in China
Mr Info replied to Southern McButterpants.'s topic in Off the Wall Archives
This is not for the light-hearted: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MjRdxuByd2g But this is no longer prevalent nor acceptable. I have had the snake blood toast. Not bad but it's cold-blooded (as it's performed right by you) so a little weird. Fortunately, I was already drinking so I was more amenable. -
LAMP: Spending a Month in China

In my experience it depends. When I used the hotel network/wifi or a public/private wifi then no connection to Facebook or Twitter or Google. When I connected under those circumstances then I used Bing for searching. But when I used my mobile provider (ATT and their international partners) then I was able to access those filtered app sites while within China. I cannot explain that since they are all routed through the same firewall in Beijing but did not want to mention it and mess up something that was working. Btw, I will be returning there in Aug/Sep. -
LAMP: Spending a Month in China

I am in Shanghai/Suzhou for a few weeks every year for my company. I am unable to provide any assistance to you on the HK area but I go out on my own a bunch when I am there so I have some general suggestions for you 1.) I have a very abbreviated knowledge of Mandarin so having a translation app on my phone has really helped me out in a few critical situations when by myself 2.) A good GPS app (e.g., Google Map) has also been benefical in a few instances 3.) perhaps I should have listed this #1 but keep a card with you at all times with your hotel address in Mandarin. In the many years I have traveled there, I have yet to encounter a taxi driver that spoke English when I needed to get back to my hotel. Enjoy your time and take advantage of being there. -
Has anybody seen this band combining Pink Floyd, Talking Heads, and Phish music? http://www.pinktalkingfish.com/ I see they will be at Buffalo Iron Works on March 3. I may hit the Norva to see them which is the closest venue to me. Interesting set lists: Punch You In The Eye > I Zimbra > Run Like Hell > Tube, Life During Wartime > Tube, Pigs (3 Different Ones) > Slippery People > Sand > Slippery People, Have A Cigar > Carini > Great Gig In The Sky > Burning Down The House, One Of a These Days > The Dogs > One Of a These Days > Cities, Quinn The Eskimo > Young Lust > Houses In Motion > Run Like An Antelope > Run Like Hell

season tickets reorder questions
Mr Info replied to outsidethebox's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
The Bills have posted what I have to pay on my season tickets when I login to account manager. The ticket amount for my tickets to the 2014 Jets game (relocated to Detroit) has been credited to my 2015 invoice. The renewal date deadline for the remainder is March 2. Seat change dates/times are sent by the Bills sometime in the spring after season ticket holders have decided whether they will renew. -
Enjoy this traditional blues instrumental by PF. The guitar by Gilmour and piano by Wright are killer. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sVjdYyQfa5s

Like others on TBD, I have relocated years ago to another part of the country. I was at a beer fest in Ashland VA in Sep '14 when I saw someone there with a Bills cap on. I went up to him and struck up a conversation with him and his wife and they had relocated here a while back from Buffalo with some of his family (like mine) still living in Buffalo. We texted periodically about the Bills after that. About a month ago I received an invite to attend a traditional Polish Christmas dinner on New Year's Day at their place. My wife had never met him or his wife and we arrived there with wine as he had texted me that he had obtained Redlinski sausages/kielbasa and other upstate foods and were preparing the rest. When we arrived, there was a table set for 30 people. They make it a point to invite friends that do not have extended family in the area and have been doing this for several years. The dinner was amazing: his wife had made hundreds (literally) of various pierogies, ham, grilled Polish sausages/kielbasa, pork salt, applesauce, cucumber salad, and pumpernickel bread. For dessert there was sponge candy and kruschiki (which he made). They also had Krupnik for an opening toast and passed out oplatek/Christmas wafer to everyone. They were a very welcoming and unassuming family and the same for the other friends they invited. It was an unforgettable experience and I believe it is a good representation of the 'neighborly' concern of WNY that is being spread to other parts of the country. I just wanted to share a good holiday experience with a Buffalo connection.

Already here with my family visiting some extended family & enjoying the Bay Area. Got 6 tix from MarkVader for us & a couple of other Bay Area family for the Bills tailgate and game. Looking forward to making Bills fans from the two Bay Area family joining us.

Enjoy the stadium and and the area...not so much the game. But, I expect you will see a whole bunch of fellow Packer fans at the game. Packer fans present may rival the # of Pats* fans this year for the game at the Ralph.

True, dat. Although these collectors are coming apart too frequently. Had to repeatedly stop pouring snow done the tubes because they became disconnected or too much snow had bunched up. They seem to have a good plan to remove the snow first where it is heaviest (snow from open tunnel around to behind Bills bench), Behind visitor's bench it is light.

ok, here is the file. Bills will send you a check for hours you work. Yes, thanks. I helped them with additional shoveling yesterday and hit the Ralph today.
-
I left the cleanup at 1:30 and this is what it looks like. Speaking with Bills reps at the Ralph today, they seem fairly confident if enough people show up tomorrow. The Bills fed us lunch, too. Btw - I am here because I had purchased a non-refundable flight from DC about 6 months ago for an annual trip to the Ralph with some college friends for the Jet game but I ended up using the flight to visit family

Where are you watching the game tonight ?
Mr Info replied to HOUSE's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
It will be on at 9:30 am in Suzhou and I'll be at work trying to use gamepass but if not, then follow through the ESPN app. But that beats the crap out of following Sundays game which started at 2:00 am here. -
This is me, too. I can make a few games a year but I plan it out way ahead of time for flights, etc. The others I give to family/friends but sometimes sell them through the NFL/Ticketmaster arrangement. I sold my Pats tix on TM but have no idea whether it was a Pats* or Bills fan. After so many disappointments over the past decade+, now I try to pick games to attend that I feel the Bills may have a decent opportunity to win. I am flying up for the Vikes game next Sunday. When the Bills demonstrate that they are a decent team, then I will select the Pats* games to attend or try to get to all of them in person. I hope Bills mgmt figures that out soon as I am looking forward to that.

Syracuse, NY company - new wireless headphone technology
Mr Info replied to Mr Info's topic in Off the Wall Archives
I have used these for about a week (was able to pick them up at local Apple store) and my review is not much different than plenzmd1 or others. Some comments: I do not use glasses but wear sunglasses when necessary. I found that using croakies/retainers allowed my two pairs of sunglasses to fit correctly. But I always use sunglass retainers so there were no changes. Paul - are you using the tension strap? I found they fit too loosely without the tension strap on so I use it all the time and it now does not move at all on my head. I would ask people in various locations (gym, outside, etc,) if they could hear the music and most people said no or barely but they could not identify the music in the latter. My perspective is that under typical ambient noise and low to medium volume setting most people will barely hear it if at all. Under low ambient noise and high volume, then others will hear the music you are playing. Sound quality is good but not near the quality of good buds. However, I was not getting it for music so I had low expectations. I travel a bunch and rent bikes at various places that I visit for work and will use these for verbal directions while I have the phone mounted on the bike for visual directions. This helps a lot since I am unfamiliar with the cities I am visiting. Having said that, I was pleased with the sound quality based on my low expectations. I find that I have to charge them after about 4 hours of use. Not happy about that. Overall, I am pleased with them and plan use them quite a bit. I like being having my ears available when exercising outside. -
bands that you recently discovered and are in to

I discovered Parov Stelar late last year. Music may best be described as electronic swing. Here is a live example: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5WAzVxtKmKE -

Interesting. I have AT&T for mobile and my wife has Verizon mobile for her business. I have used Cingular/AT&T for several years and could not be happier with their customer service. I give them a call whenever there is an issue; they pick up quickly and then rectify it right away. Whenever my wife has problems with her Verizon account, it takes much longer to find (or wait for) the appropriate resource to address the issue and then longer to rectify it. I have also been a long-time subscriber with Directv and appreciate their customer service. Service is important to me,..so much so that I will pay more for something if I know I will receive good customer service when I need it. IMO - two good customer service organizations are merging and I hope their service remains the same.

Syracuse, NY company - new wireless headphone technology
Mr Info replied to Mr Info's topic in Off the Wall Archives
I don't believe any sound is projected from these as it is using vibrations for sound. Here's a review that has info on sunglasses, comfort, etc. http://road.cc/content/review/124592-aftershokz-bluez-2-wireless-bone-conduction-headphones -
Aftershokz, a company based in Syracuse NY, has developed wireless bone conduction headphones. Interesting technology and they are doing well as these are back-ordered. When I bike, I do not wear headphones as I feel it restricts my awareness and reaction if something occurs around me. But I am considering these as I could listen to music or directions and my ears will still be open to outside events. http://www.aftershokz.com/product/bluez-2/

Is Tom Brady on the Decline - Beginning of the End ?
Mr Info replied to ganesh's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
+1 Also, good move by Peyton going to lighter air to bolster his arm strength as he gets older. Sure, it's only 8 games but anything/everything helps. -
