Cover 1 Denied Press Credentials by Bills PR Staff
K-9 replied to Phil The Thrill's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
If Eric Turner really wants press credentials, perhaps he should ask the team what is required to obtain them. Then he can make up his mind if it’s still worth pursuing or not. -
WR battle heading into first preseason game
K-9 replied to Alphadawg7's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I really like McKenzie as his insertion into the lineup last season paid immediate dividends as Daboll sought to get more quick twitch and speed in the lineup. I’m rooting for the kid. That said, if he’s cut, it will be for all the right reasons. And something tells me Andre Roberts is going to announce his arrival as a legit WR threat in this league. -

This talk of “falling into traps” believing this or that is interesting. Here’s another one: some have “fallen into the trap” of believing that building a team is a linear process when nothing is farther from the truth. And because building a football team is not a linear process, the floodgates of criticism are always gonna be open for those that think another part of the team should have been built at any particular moment instead. I goddamn guarantee that if the Bills had built the WR group earlier, then those currently upset by the delay in building a better WR corps, would be just as tweaked if other areas, like the OLine or Dline for example, were ignored. -

Seems to some that since they couldn’t trade for a top WR (although they tried to land AB), didn’t draft a WR in a crappy WR class, and couldn’t find an All Pro wideout in free agency that, once again, the Bills front office screwed the pooch and we are doomed to failure this season. All this razor sharp insight after only a week and a half of training camp, too. The group myopia makes it impossible to give McBeane ANY credit for other signings recognized league wide as very solid pickups. -

Do you already know there was a WR who could? When the first wideout is selected at #25 in the draft, it speaks to the general scouting consensus that it wasn’t a very good draft for high end WR prospects. Now maybe every wideout selected in 2019 will go on to have HOF careers, but that won’t change the fact that BEFORE the draft, when GMs and scouts have to deal with PRESENT realities, there were far more highly ranked prospects at other positions better able to contribute in the short term. -
Does he have to pass a drug test like S Jackson? Actually, Donahoe had to pound the table and talk him into it.

So then it would appear that Cover 1's use of All 22 footage isn't the limiting factor, after all, as had been speculated by Nate Geary's contact in the Bills' PR dept. -

One would think. But it's been several years since Jeremy White was issued his cease and desist order and since then countless other providers around the world have disseminated All 22 footage in the same way. And I just haven't heard of a bunch of providers having to cease and desist. Wish I has seen this a few minute earlier. That explains why the NFL may not be too upset about some of it's internet based products. Jeremy White should get back into the All 22 analysis business. -

Good point. Gotta have confidence to let your receivers go up and make plays, too. The anti-Tyrod. -

That was my assumption; that use of their All 22 product would be protected by copyright. So I guess we’re back to the editorial free use argument. But none of the NFL’s protection policies mean much if they enforce them discriminately. Which seems to be the case as far as how other providers routinely disseminate their All 22 product. -

They’re paying the subscription fee for NFL Game Pass for that 60 minute All 22 footage, and then disseminating snippets and adding commentary. Those snippets are a small, insignificant fraction of the full 60 minute offering. I’ve yet to be asked to pay Cover 1 to look at these offerings. I understand I can opt to pay for premium coverage, but I don’t, so I don’t know if Cover 1 is showing a little more, a lot more, or all of the remaining footage. I’d like to know that if anyone hear can answer that. Regarding a lawsuit, I think that would be interesting and while I think the league would prevail just based on resources alone, The NFL would have to show harm in some way. I wonder what that would look like. Lost subscribers? Ok. But what about the myriad of other outlets currently doing exactly what Cover 1 is doing? That’s a lot of people to sue. -

Not to digress, but one of the main reasons why TT was considered a good fit for Dennison’s offense was his having been in that system with Dennison and Kubiak in Baltimore. Unfortunately, we never got to see TT crap the bed running it in Baltimore. Doesn’t matter what kind of system TT runs, he’s too risk averse to be anything more than a mediocrity. -

They pay a fee for the right to broadcast only. You and I are just as free to provide analysis as their color analysts are. And we will all be worse of because of it. -

I tried making a similar point but was told it was nonsense. I think it stands to reason, though. -

Regarding editorial free use, since the All 22 is available via subscription to NFL Game Pass exclusively, is it not subject to NFL copyrights? Do providers like Cover 1 have license to redistribute that material? On the surface, I would think not but, since the NFL seems to apply their protection policies concerning the All 22 discriminately, I wonder. -

Bills security needed to confiscate this footage immediately. Like Barzini at the wedding in ‘The Godfather.’ Keeps that up, he’s on the 53 for sure. -

Perhaps you should have read my previous post stating that the NFL has a case when it comes to their IP being used. I also mentioned how their policy regarding enforcement has been selective at best, as we’ve seen. While I agree that the NFL is smart enough the know what’s in their best interest, MOST OF THE TIME, there have been examples when they haven’t been. I think the selective enforcement of their IP protection policies may be an example of that. -

I agree with you here. I wasn’t aware that’s what Cover1 wanted to do. How would they get the all 22 from the Bills camp to do that anyway? If they are at camp and breaking down and commenting on various formations, plays, and the personnel packages associated, I submit anyone sitting in the stands could do the same thing if they have a certain level expertise. -

That’s what we all do. At least those of us with more than a casual interest in what’s going on in the game. Heck, that’s what color analysts try to do on a play to play basis. If anything, Cover 1 generates more interest in the product by engaging fans, educating them, and making the NFL product more interesting. I’d think the Bills would be grateful. -

I agree. IIRC, the all 22 is only available via subscription to NFL game pass and, by that criteria, the NFL has a legit case. But for some reason, they’ve chosen not to enforce policies against other parties disseminating the all 22 footage. It’s selective enforcement at best. And by that criteria Cover1 has a case. It sucks for Erik Turner, but if it comes down to a choice between being able to continue his analysis of all 22 or gaining press credentials, I hope he chooses the former. -

Taking nothing away from Oliver, but that was more of a case of Wesley sucking at technique than it was Oliver doing something amazing.
