Interesting thought @Alphadawg7 i don’t believe it to be the case though. He’s been playing well. Elam has not. Dane is what he is. Good depth, below average starter. If Dane is our starter, i think our chances of winning a SB will have slightly decreased to my original chances. Unless Elam has secretly played lights out in camp, I think trading Benford would be a poor choice unless it were for a good MLB or OT

Right….. which is why we should have a backup that can make plays with his legs. It gives us more ways to win. It opens up another aspect of offense that the d will have to focus on. Most backup qbs aren’t going to be winning games with their arms unless they’re being paid more than what we are willing to pay. The minimum salary guys are generally not good enough to win with their arms. So if your backup QB isn’t going to be winning with their arm, why not have a guy that can win with their legs? If your backup QB sucks, I’d rather have a guy with mobility. I’d really like Sam ehlinger as a cheap backup. I think he could start and accumulate a win or 2 as a starter.

It’s how I feel right now. By all accounts, he’s been bad on most days in training camp. He’s been bad in games unless he’s playing against third stringers. He was bad last season. What have you done for me lately….. not in 2019. He doesn’t look the same. I hope he’s on the PS

I wouldn’t just want someone different if I thought the guy we had could win some games. I don’t think he’s capable unless he went up against the worst or the worst pass rushing teams. We saw how bad he was vs the terrible Colt pass rush. his previous game film doesn’t mean anything to me. He’s thrown very few passes since 2019 and looks to have regressed while getting few reps. Many players regress sitting on the bench getting backup reps. Watching him play this year, I don’t think he’s the same player as his starting game film. i didn’t necessarily like Case Keenum either. I’d prefer a backup QB with some wheels that can escape the inevitable pass rush and make a play with his legs. I liked him more than Allen. My point in all this. I care about the backup QB. This notion that if a backup QB has to play, the season is over is 🗑️.

I think it’ll be one or zero. I wish it were 2-3 but I don’t find that to be realistic. QB, OT, MLB

EVERY game is going to matter this year. If another backup could win ONE game that Kyle Allen couldn’t, it could save the entire season. I think there’s a better chance of Kyle Allen going 0-3 than winning a game. we saw how he looked playing with many starters vs the vaunted Colt defense

You’ve moved the goalposts of our conversation while putting words in my mouth. I’m not talking about paying a backup QB anymore than Kyle Allen. You asked who cares about the backup QB and are operating under the assumption that if Allen gets hurt, the season is over. It’s a very flawed way of thinking. I would hope that our GM doesn’t share the same shortsighted view. I didn’t say we had to pay a good backup. I think there are other minimum salary QBs that can help us win games better than Kyle Allen can. I think that just about any mobile QB would give us a better chance to win than Kyle Allen. Maybe I’m being harsh, but I think he’s terrible

Some injuries may require him to miss a handful of games. You can pretend to know that that’s not possible…. That he’ll just play through every injury that isn’t season ending…. But it’s not true. It happened his rookie year and can happen any year.

I care because I know that some injuries won’t cause a player to miss significant time. our QB puts himself in harms way more than most. I don’t see why we wouldn’t want a more capable backup

He he goes down for the season, it doesn’t matter, season is over. If he goes down for a 1-5 games, our season isn’t over and we need a QB that can scrape together some W’s.

I think they’re similar because both were drafted on day 2 strictly because of their speed.

Helluva write up GB. Thanks for taking the time to write these each week. Starting to wonder if Beane will look to trade Epenesa. Boogie has earned his spot and has a year under contract. AJ is as good as gone after the season imo, maybe we can get a 4th or 5th. He stole a 5th fro Az for Cody ford, maybe he can pull off some more magic. I watched the game on my phone while I was driving, so I didn’t get to see the game very well. I didn’t notice 86 at all. It seemed to me that on the offensive drive with the starters was mostly 11 personnel. Was that the case? I was hoping that we wouldn’t show anymore Kincaid cards to the league. Did he get any snaps? great to see Neal finally showing some worth as a DB. He has all the tools to be a starter. Similar to Elam in that way. Maybe Elam will figure it out by year 6-7 while on another team

I do think maddys improved over the years from terrible to bad. marino is the best. Nolan up next. I like Tompsett, but I’m not a fan of Quinn. I like Turner but Prohaskas voice is worse than Glabbs imo. I find Judge Mathis and Tilt to be an lol easy listen most of the time. The AfC round table is embarrassing. Dan Mitchell is a poor representation of our fan base. That’s probably why he’s on the show. For football content in general, I enjoy Bootleg football. Brett Kollman and RJ Snyder know their stuff and are very informative
