I don't get "upset" at national media projections like this because it is so easy to see that his analysis is not well thought out. Let's look at the AFCE. The Fish do not have a good roster -- and Rosen played worse than Allen last year. Colin's argument that "young QBs play better with an offensive HC" apparently doesn't apply to the Fish I guess, since Flores is their coach? Lazy. The Pats*** draft grades are all over the board. Yes, as long as Belichick and Brady are there (or someone topples them) they are rightfully the favorites, but they are not a "powerhouse" like in some years past and they have holes. The Jets added flashy pieces (Bell, Moseley) and drafted a very good DT in Williams. They have improved on paper -- but why is their "paper" worth more than the Bills' "paper?" Arguably no team in the NFL did as much to improve their roster "on paper" as the Bills did in FA and the draft. Both the Bills and Jets have 2nd year QBs, and one could argue that the continuity on the Bills' coaching staff is more of a benefit to Allen than "crazy eyes" Gase is to Darnold. After the Pats*** both the Bills and Jets are logical choices to show improvement. The Fish are a mess. If Rosen plays better they could be a .500 team. I think Cowherd does this, truthfully, to drive social media "outrage" among rabid fan bases like the Bills.

My favorite quote from that article: “We’re still playing football,” Beane said. “If I’m going to miss on a guy, I want to miss on a guy that I saw being a really good football player versus a guy who I questioned his football ability but he was a really good tester. We’re all going to miss on players. I would rather miss on a guy like this.”

This take by Benoit confounds me, because the guy does a ton of film work and seems at times to know what he's talking about. But this analysis in particular really exposes a complete lack of understanding of McD's scheme and how perfect a fit Oliver is in that defense. It also ignores the departure of Kyle and the fact that Horrible Harry really hasn't proven anything yet. Yes, edge rusher is also a concern opposite Hughes, but if you're getting a dynamic, disrupt-the-middle player like Oliver that need is lessened somewhat. We've all got to learn to just take these "analyst" opinions with a huge grain of salt and let the play on the field dictate our opinions.

Roll call for those betting over 6.5 wins

Put down $100; it was the max bet in my sports book or I would have bet more. -
Man, they really wanted Ford. I like it. I’ve said it in other threads, but I think the Buffalo/Oliver match is a dream come true. Ha, you guys are kidding right? They didn’t need to take a RB in the 3rd; in fact most fans figured they wouldn’t take one at all. Singletary was the highest rated player on their board at 74 by a wide margin.

Yeah, I could see it being an exasperated “go away” scream as well. Either way, an awesome ending. -
I'm a homer, but I think Oliver at 9 was an unbelievable steal. After reading about him and then seeing the genuine joy he expressed upon being drafted by the Bills, I believe this is a match made in football heaven. If it is true (as Kirby reported) that Singletary was graded that much higher by the Bills than anyone else available at #74, he is most certainly a steal. I don't care about any other teams.

Lawson's 5th yr option ($9.451M) declined & Ziggy update

This is a good call, declining the option on Shaq. If presented to him in the right way it should not negatively impact the Bills' ability to re-sign him if he has a good season, but in all likelihood he's not going to have the kind of season that would make you think he should be paid 9M+ in 2020. -

Yeah but she didn't say when. Only that he'll die "in this strange country." That could be decades away for all we know, although I agree her tone was foreboding. -
I think Syndergaard just took a page out of the Major League playbook by homering and pitching a 1-0 shutout. "F**k Jobu, I do it myself."

We are such a Mickey Mouse organization. While our rookies sit around twiddling their thumbs teams like the Ravens, Browns, Colts, Chefs, and Raiders are getting their rookies in an entire week in advance. That learning time is invaluable! It's no wonder why the national media hates us.

LOL, sure. I think it's a little overblown though. I saw a significant difference in pre- and post-injury Josh, even on the short stuff. Hopefully now that the "newness" of the NFL has worn off he'll focus more on making those short, easy completions and realize he doesn't always have to go for the big play.

I'll strongly disagree with this because McD is smart enough to know that "the Roman offense" is only viable if you're playing football in the days of Ancient Rome. Look at Baltimore -- sure, they ran through a pretty easy schedule but as soon as they faced a legitimate defense in the playoffs it was over. That system isn't conducive to truly competing -- I think we'll see that again this season. Now, McD chose the wrong guy (Dennison) but that wasn't even his first choice -- and he wisely moved on. Last season's early struggles (and they were awful to witness) is not because of the system but because you had a combination of Peterman and then a rookie playing behind a crap OL with crap skill personnel. I'll take the visible signs of improvement in the final 1/3 to 1/4 of the season as evidence things will turn around.

We all agree Josh needs to be better at taking the "short stuff" to improve, but how many times did what's bolded above actually happen last year? I'll hang up and listen.

Best Route Concepts for Third Down
eball replied to thebandit27's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
See emphasis above. I completely agree when you're talking 3rd and long -- not so much when it's 3rd and 5 or less. You need to move the chains. I'm very much in favor of deep shots on 2nd down, though. -

Great insight! Catching the ball will result in more completions as well. -
Hughes, McCoy, Morse (we think), Ford (we hope), Tre White, Hyde/Poyer -- in addition to those you've mentioned. Of course, Hughes and Shady were around in 2015. With a good coach and better QB the 2015 team should have been a playoff team.
-
Probably this, although I did have high hopes in 2015. I was still under the delusion Rex was a good coach based upon the year he got 8-8 out of a crappy Jets team.

Ouch, Brad Riter. That's a big ol' matzo ball you got hangin' out of your mouth right there... -

Probably the wrong thread but Peter Schrager on GMFB just raved about Singletary and predicted he would be the AFC's offensive rookie of the week in W1. -
Game of Thrones - And Now Our Watch Has Ended!
eball replied to SlimShady'sSpaceForce's topic in Off the Wall Archives
The clip is up-thread somewhere, and I watched it again (the whole episode) last night. I continue to be more and more impressed with what they did with the episode the more I watch it. Anyway, Jon almost certainly hollers "GO, GO!" just before the final scene when he jumps out in front of zombie Viserion. I do think it's possible he was creating a distraction for Arya. -
