  1. Don't you mean "if he becomes REALLY REALLY good they will? Out of a graduating high school class of say 500 students how many athletic scholarships of any substance (meaning more than $1000) will be earned by athletes? Especially marginal athletes whose parents have invested well over $1000 in gear and trainers (as was described in the beginning)? Yes, the very exceptional few will earn a scholarship with bragging rights.
  2. I take it this is on the Gulf coast? (you only mentioned Cancun). I have been to Puerto Vallarta four times but that is Pacifico.
  3. I coached for three years then watched his 4th year. To be frank, he sucked at baseball. When he was 12 he said he did not want to play anymore and I said "OK". Why push him to play because I liked it? I was glad he gave it his best and we moved on!
  4. I am offering this mostly because of the separate room. "The Nutcracker" on Empire Blvd Penfield/Webster. Dinners are OK, burgers and sandwiches are actually quite good. They have the main diner, and a back room with glass pane doors you can close, which is what you were probably seeking. If I was planning a party I would look around, but this is diner food at a decent price on short notice. Sorry about your grandmother.
  5. I had to throw a dad off the field for walking out to the mound to talk to his kid during the freaking game! I had another kid who was great until his father showed up and started hollering "tips" from the stands. My son still can't play ball very well, but he could be a pro bowler! If the kid is having fun you are doing everything you can.
  6. Pinot Grigot or vodka work in a water bottle too!
  7. Yeah, they are lining up tp hand out those scholarships.
  8. When I coached Little League, the manager and two of us who were coaches all had kids on the team. Rule was, do not coach your own kid, especially when hw is batting.
  9. Just tell her you DO work with him. If she keeps nagging at you excuse yourself. Go watch from someplace else for a while. When you come back if she starts again, leave her again. It may take a while but she will either: 1) STFU 2) learn to watch the games without you It is not worth the stress.
  10. I am at 54% of my goal. I was saving you for the second half! Total is up to $1,125. Thank you all... Prizes start this weekend - simple but cool Bills stuff.
  11. Put away the books and go on a wine trail ride (get a designated driver of course). If you are lucky you have a nearby liquor store that does wine tasting. You get good info about sugar content, grape types, good years and bad years - and why... We had fun up by Niagara on the Lake last year and Keuka Lake too! Your fiance needs to expand her wine horizon.
  12. Sounds like a creative way to say someone sh-- on your tongue.
  13. I like Aussie, Italian and South American wines. Bulletin makes a very good inexpensive Shiraz.
  14. For me the best news is that WHAM 1180 AM has the Bills broadcasts back. Seems like WCMF 96.5 is imploding, at least concerning the things that I care about!
  15. Peter Noone was Herman of Herman's Hermits. Looking down the roster, probably Moorman and Lindell, and maybe Crowell andGreer. Kinda sad going down the roster and not having anyone jump out at you. I want a Talley kinda guy to cheer for! Used to be Schobel, but he kinda sorta laid low key last year. All I see is potential energy. Posluszny is my biggest hope for a "leather helmet" kind of player. I have a lot of hope for some who need to step up. I am really looking forward to this year.
  16. I know someone who is convinced the manned moon landings are fake. Honest. It was just Cold War trickery and propaganda. He also stocked up for Y2K melt down, 07/07/07, and now says the world will end on 12/21/12 (Mayan calendar only goes that far). If he lives long enough he will eventually be correct.
  17. Really. The oceans would run off if it was. Any moron knows that.
  18. Any thread concerning JP and Trent is going to be stupid. It may start our innocent enough, but it WILL unfortunately become stupid. Anyway, Hamburg is closer to Orchard Park than Buffalo, you stupid head. (see what I mean?)
  19. The bold emphasis is how I feel about every player on this team. No "besides" or other additions to the statement.
  20. HFBD Annie! Hugs from the Rock!
  21. I appreciate the help! If you have any questions, I have the donor list, but I doubt you will need it! We are now at $800 !
  22. Status 3/26: $760 or 39% of my 2008 goal. You people are awesome!
  23. Thought I would bump this. We are up to $460 thank you very much. Enjoy the weekend!
  24. Almost any NY State Park will accommodate you just fine. Some let you bring dogs too. I especially like (in no particular order) Letchworth, Nick's Lake, Stony Brook, Watkin's Glen, Wellesley Island, and Eighth Lake. Oh, and we stayed at Lake Lucerne (not far from Lake Charles) and that was also nice. Between Ithaca and Naples are some great wine trails. I have stayed in Allegheny too, but my kids were bored and the wife found it a bit "rough" but they are all city folk. Hell a friend and me used to get dropped off in the Allegheny National forest with backpacks, food, geodesic survey maps and a compass. We told family if they did not hear from us in a week, they might want to call somebody. My friend told me once that staying in a pop up was not camping. I agreed - but it is a cheap way to vacation with the family and still beats a hotel. Nothing worse than having four kids in tents that are floating! I look at it as a compromise. One place we liked that was private was Cooperstown Famous Family Campground. Last we went there it was getting pretty commercial, but when the kids were small they had fun feeding the chickens, trying to milk a cow, and daily pony rides and hay rides. The man running it was "Uncle John. He had an old Allis Chalmers tractor, with the name "Alice" painted on the fender. Gotta like a man who names his tractor! When we were leaving we said our good-byes. He winked at us and said "You'll be back" and he was right. There is this place called the Baseball HOF that we went to while we there there.
