  1. Then I could complain he was "stealing" someone's material!
  2. I do NOT go to buffalobills.com daily. The thread title 'Brohm has a good day" caught my attention and I read a good article I would have missed. I have nothing else to say.
  3. What are your plans? (not asking for stalker level detail)
  4. Ah, what a great comeback. I would love to see Schobel come back to the Bills. He is the #2 DE the Bills have ever had, using stats as the barometer. I can also see why he might not want to return AND why he would not to offend his fans. He has been the 'constant' in a decade of chaos. The Bills would be doing him a favor to trade him, if that is what he desired. I do not know him so I cannot say. I am a moron and will go cheer for the Texans now. Thanks for the advice.
  5. Maybe I should remove ass-clown from my mission statement?
  6. I use a hand mirror.
  7. I was at Beers of the World in Rochester today and picked up some Negra Modelo and some El Presidente from the Dominican Republic. I have a daughter there for a couple weeks and it caught my eye.
  8. I interviewed with a major financial company, and if I had the proper background/experience I would have a job. They did not have time to train me in the specifics, and over 100 had applied for the job - and only ten were being interviewed. I have heard that the average scan time on a resume now is from three to ten seconds before the decision is made to read more or shred it (from an HR guy at Paychex).
  9. Some of us suck at sales. I have been looking at various careers "outside my comfort zone" and do not rule anything out. I have no problem working for salary plus results. BTW: In an interview, I NEVER bring up salary (or overall compensation) at all. That would be the same as asking them "what can YOU do for me". I will discuss it in a general way only if the employer asks me a question. If they make me an offer, I want to make sure I understand their expectations of me and my compensation, preferably in writing (I got burned badly once). By the time we are discussing those items, we have usually mutually decided "I want you".
  10. I worked part time salary for almost a year. The pay was barely higher than unemployment, but I got a few holidays and PTO days, better health insurance, the possibility of becoming full time, and I could get up in the morning and go to work three days a week instead of *looking* for work five days a week. (very frustrating) Out of curiosity, what kind of jobs are you talking about? Many of the job opportunities I have seen that pay about $10 an hour to start do not have much promise of a future. I AM looking for a career not just a minimal paycheck, and I am glad the extension of UI benefits was passed.
  11. I took my daughter, AKA Babyrock to a TBD home opener, where we visited with our usual friends and met a few new TBDers. Now Babyrock is a pretty girl. and the day after the game some of the people we tailgated with decided to start a "hottie" thread that was apparently so rude it was deleted. Thankfully I missed it. Only time I was ever mad at the poor behavior of TBD members especially towards my daughter. It never happened again. Names withheld to protect the guilty. YOU know who you are! In proper perspective, TBD tailgates are 99.9% fan and family friendly. Me and the family already have our tix for Miami.
  12. You are not allowing for the potential waves of legal aliens who may need government assistance.
  13. We are in agreement. Employers do not want Boomers unless they fill a special niche. Stein was saying skilled, productive, team players will be the last fired and first rehired. NOT TRUE! Since 2007, each job has paid less, but I did not B word because it was WORK.
  14. I worked about 27 years with the same company (with different owners). I started funding my retirement 25 years ago. In the last 5 years or more before layoff, if I got a raise, it ALL went into my 401K. As owners changed, pensions and 401Ks were NOT kept with the company that cut me. I survived in a department of over 80 down to the final 12, but did not make the cut to the last 5 people. I worked 20 months on contract and was cut again. Then I worked another job almost a year part-time, even though I was offered unemployment. I want to freaking work. I have not taken money from savings (except once for property taxes) and have not touched IRAs or 401Ks. I have not had NEW money to add to the retirement accounts since 2007. I am a 57 year old who may end up taking a job at half or less of what I made. I can live with that but I am not finished! I am looking for a new career to occupy at least my next two decades. After that I am not sure what I will do, but it will be an adventure. I would like to travel a lot. There is so much to see. I disagree with Ben Stein on this point; many do not want Boomers, even if they are twice as qualified as a younger person. "Productive workers with real skills and real ability to get along are also sometimes unemployed, but they will be the last fired and the first hired." Be flexible and reject paradigm thinking, all you Gen X, Y, Z'ers, your day will come.
  15. I understand what you are saying and when I see this I get angry too. I do not think we should assume that everyone who needs public assistance is a cheater and should be branded. I feel sorry for the genuine unfortunates who are automatically placed in one category. The problem is that this is supposed to be temporary assistance (insurance), not a career, but there will always be abusers.
  16. Is that a wad of cash in your pocket or are you just glad to see me? I personally think material stress is caused by people who are never satisfied with their "wad". Stress is when your "wealth" owns you. You will never be secure or have enough. If a disaster took everything I had -but not my loved ones- I would be really pissed, but I would be OK. MAN has this strayed from the original topic!
  17. No offense taken, except that part about me having a good attitude! heh. Like your avatar, btw, but shouldn't that finger be pointed at your temple?
  18. I was referring to Mahar's remarks that the poor die younger because poverty is stressful. A lot of things are stressful. It is not the stress, it is how you react to stress that causes problems. Sorry for the confusion. I missed that you were calling Rob a dumbass for calling me a dumbass, you dumbass. None of my parents, grandparents or great grandparents ever used those favorite cliches to declare that my generation had it easier than there's. They did tell interesting stories that are a part of history we cannot afford to lose. Example: You could always tell when spring was coming because the only pages left in the Sears catalog in the outhouse were the shiny pages!
  19. As one of the currently unemployed, I am glad to see that someone is taking the initiative to try to more accurately reflect the unemployment rate reported by the government. A phrase used often by Mark Twain, but is hard to identify the originator, fits well: "Lies, damned lies, and statistics"
  20. We have a winnner! I bet you are old enough to retire. I woulda said Betty Boop but that was not Rock.
  21. I know you are but what am I? The real problem is that SSI became the dumping ground for every social ill of those perceived as poor or needy, when it was intended to be simply a socialized retirement program. I laughed when Maggie Mahar said ""We all know that the poor die sooner. Poverty is stressful." Oh boo freaking hoo! My great grandmother was born a decade or two after the Civil War, married a tenant farmer, raised 10 children, lived through two world wars, smoked a pipe, and lived to be almost a hundred. She was dirt farmer poor and I am sure she had her moments of stress!
  22. Have we met? If not that was kinda like a "reach around", not that there is anything wrong with that, heh.
  23. Hell, it's off season and I do not have a job, where else would I slum? PPP = Are you smarter than a 5th grader sometimes, but it is always worth taking a pie in the face. I got tired of OT "what was your favorite top 40 hit B side done by a dead cartoon rock band?" ... at least until I get banned.
