If Mel Kieper's Bills draft picks were accurate
White Linen replied to SJDK's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
What started ruining his credibility IMO is when he leaned towards teams should do what he thinks. He mocks teams for picking players outside of his rankings. If he would just stick to saying things like "Ok, I had that player lower in my rankings based on personal research and what I've heard from teams, but obviously they like what they see". Instead he interjects disgust. I guess that's fine when your rankings are more right then wrong. Because Kiper is so wrong so often - he lives in the world he created. Now he's having to deal with not only ESPN bringing in others to combat him live as they laugh at him - he subjects himself to widespread criticism from competing networks, fans, media, NFL alumni and NFL teams themselves. -
Are you sure? I don't see how we could keep him even at a reduced contract - with all the other work to do in signing other pending FA's. I don't think there's a conspiracy or anything but the fact he dogged it - is making it much easier in public opinion. I think he was gone either way.

I stand corrected. I did not know that. -
Difference between Bills fans and Patriots fans

I'm just suggesting to the level you could be embarrassed as a fan - it's embarrassing. I have a lot of other things in life more important as I know you do - so I'm not trying to over dramatize. I just think Bills fans are one of the unique fan bases that take exception to this type of stuff. -

I believe he'll still get paid unless there was something in his Philly contract (doubtful) and his salary will go against the cap. -

I get it but suggesting fans won't jump to conclusions is naive. But I reject the notion we should be like Pats fans as you suggest - and rap our support around Shady. I think we should wait until the details come out for the legal side of this argument - but it's ok to be pissed he embarrassed us. -

I disagree JJ. I think it's good that we're one of the last few cities that doesn't like their athletes getting into trouble. Obviously innocent until proven has to be preserved - but this is an opinion board. Anger that a player involved at all is not taken well by Bills fans and I think I know why. It's tough being a fan of this team. I live out of town and except the ridicule I receive from friends that know I'm a fan - and the comments I get when wearing apparel. We accept this and often use it to bind us together stronger. We don't like when players embarrass us and disrespect our loyalty. -

Quinton Coples to be available again

You don't want to give Rex the benefit of the doubt but you will to Mario. Mario has had down years too - so to just say one is great at what they do and not the other, isn't a fair assessment. -

Just because they are police officers as their job doesn't mean they aren't at fault or partially. They were off duty so they are subject to act accordingly just like any other citizen. As much respect as I have for police officers in general and am thankful for the job they do - they can have a I can't be messed with attitude similar to an athlete. An argument about a bottle of champagne sounds ridiculous but it's about who threw the first punch. If the officers just so happened to lose the fight doesn't mean they didn't start it. We'll just have to wait for the facts to come out. -

Quiet Indictment of Lee/Roman - Trent Dilfer
White Linen replied to Hapless Bills Fan's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
i think this is all a bunch of hog wash. I like Dilfer and find him one of the easier personalities to listen to - but lets be clear, he was one awful QB. Let's not act like he has a special sense to see things. These modern coaches aren't teachers because they don't have time/longevity. For example Greg Roman has a lot to teach - but Trent Dilfer is his QB - he doesn't have time to teach Dilfer so much about the game to overcome what he can't physically do - so he tries his best and game plans around Dilfer's game - it doesn't work and Roman gets fired. That's a Trent Dilfer issue. -
Wade's lack of charisma doesn't show in his win loss record as a head coach - and I'd say he's well beyond a stellar D coordinator, instead one of the great defensive minds of all time.
-
I personally disagree about Wade. His win loss record as a head coach while not wildly impressive is very good. Some in his career are 1-3, 2-1, 1-7, 0-3 when he's either been the interim or got fired - but when he coaches 16 games his record is excellent.

I'm not saying I'm right by any means - I just think it's possible it could be a viable market. I've been in Charlotte NC since they got the Panthers and I've seen a transformation from a city with locals having allegiances to out of town teams and out of town people loyal to their home town teams. So from that point of view corporate entities will come around as local support does. However your other points are certainly reasons it could be a problem and I recognize that too.

I'll look up some information to back up my theory, but if you're telling me there's less people with money to buy an NFL ticket in Las Vegas vs a city like Buffalo (one with an NFL team that's supported) - I'm going to have to disagree with you. The economy has changed dramatically over the last 10 years. I think you're getting confused with the Las Vegas strip and the entirety of Clark County.
-
There's more than enough permanent residents - a lot has changed in that regard. Any new city added is going to have to earn loyalty from their fan base - time will easily take care of that issue. It's not any hotter there during the football Months than any other hot weathered city. Very stale arguments.
