Why was Fred at practice if Russ is so bad at his job?

We've been incredibly lucky with really good kicking over the last 30+ years. Norwood, Christie, Lindell had some pretty nice careers with long stretches. Carpenter seemed to be on his way to being another place kicker with a long career here. I blame Rex for this too. If you all will remember this was the first player Rex attacked in the media after arriving. That whole "they're just kickers" mentality is old and immature. Rex really is a neanderthal - grow up and treat every player with respect. Carp was injured and never recovered mentally from Rex getting in his head - which is something you never ever should do, unless you're going to make a change.

Actually he said "it's my responsibility just like everything on that field. I have big shoulders and I'll take it, but I know what happened." Rex, when you say most ridiculous, what happened? "I know what it is, but I'm not gonna get into it." To me this is the problem. He doesn't actually take responsibility even though he tries so hard to act like it. Really frustrating to see him talk like this time and again. "There's a lot of things on film that when you look at it you're like, man. Boy that sure looks like a pass interference but it wasn't called. Then here's this and here's that and to overcome all that it's just painful." Not one mention of what he and his coaching staff did wrong. So you do want to get into it Rex, you just don't want to talk about what you and your staff did wrong. He deflects so much he blinds himself - purposely. No wonder our players play with the same lack of accountability.

I totally agree. I actually didn't like that some of the other players where letting that coach go so crazy. That coach was the one out of control.

Just as a fan I hate to see this. I was looking forward to seeing young QB's start their journey in the playoffs and watch them work their way up the respect meter.

It depends. There's many examples where a new system gets absorbed by the players for immediate results. Wade Phillips takes over a defense and they instantly become better for example. For me it's about the right systems, being taught the right way - can work quickly.

I have no idea if Toub can be a head coach and I'd have my concerns with a 15 year special teams coach that never even became a coordinator. However after finding this article and learning a little bit about how he spent time wisely by participating in other areas of the team - I could see why he could. I would stop worrying about a QB. It's like pulling the handle on a slot machine and thinking it matters you really really want to hit.

They know what they're doing in terms of consciously trying to needle. The problem is it only serves them and not their audience. They've lost total awareness of what the reader/listener wants to know and only concentrate on their effort to demean the organization.
