Firstly Nix and Modrak are from a different era...they were GM/AGM a decade ago. It is not apples to apples comparison with Beane. Whaley came from the Steelers organization who are known to be methodical and detailed oriented...They have the same pedigree as you think Beane and team have. The problem I think is that Whaley was disconnected with the HC because the HC's were not his choice...He was working under the Owners orders...That is tough to overcome.

great post. It is not that our past front office has been bad or anything, as there are only 32 GM positions in the world of NFL. What makes these guys a little different is their attention to details; small things that make a big difference in perception and attitude. small things that bring success and that in turn breeds success. And you then get some luck to go with it!!!

It is the strong work ethic to overcome their deficiencies.

This is hard to understand. Teams have dramatically improved by changing one or two players in the area of need. For example, when we added Mount Washington to our DL, we became the #1 against rush (or something close)...When we lost Pat Williams, our run defense sucked!! As recently, when Mario Williams was on the line, our sack totals were big; without him not so much as teams are double-teaming Hughes.

+1. Beane has stated that if Allen wins in TC/PS then he will be the starter. However, he also stated that McAaron and Peterman are already ahead of the curve due to the off season program. So the pressure is on Allen to learn the play book the next three months to outshine during TC/PS. And I pray to god that the Bills don't hit the same issue as with Losman, when he was knocked out for the year with the broken leg..I think that severely reduced Losman's ability to learn through the first season.

The Steelers thought Rudolph was the best QB among the top six...I am sure their scouting abilities are far better!
