So until Allen gets an elite WR we shouldn’t expect him to complete deep passes at a respectable rate? I thought he was better connecting deep as a rookie with worse receivers than he was last year. I’d like for everyone to do their job well, including Allen. I’ll look at Allen in a different light when he’s consistently good. Until then, I’ll just keep riding this emotional rollercoaster. I can buy into him not wanting to risk an INT as a reason for all the bad overthrows. McD loves to preach ball security. But damn, hitting on those deep balls can be game changers. I’m sure we missed out on several TDs as a result of the missed deep balls.

Not having an elite #1 WR is such a horrible excuse. How many truly elite WRs are there in the league? Plenty of guys manage to connect on deep balls without one. You’re trying too hard to blame everyone but Allen. He missed plenty of throws from a clean pocket to open receivers.

Looks like he’s training in Texas

Murphy and Tasker are brutal to listen to.

He’s solid depth but it’s hard to think he’ll last very long

Josh Allen "Prove it" Season In Year 3

EJ Manuel got 4 years here so I don’t expect Allen to get any less. I don’t look at it as a make or break year in a sense that Allen would be at risk of getting cut before year 4. I think Allen needs to continue making significant strides before I would feel comfortable saying he’s our guy and there’s no questions about it. Given our addition of Diggs, if the improvements dont continue this year then I’d be less confident about it ever happening. At that point, I’d at least consider the idea of him not being who we had hoped and looking for a possible upgrade down the road. -
Probably going to NE

You can tell he didn’t know what to do with his hands since he wasn’t clapping. -

I wouldn’t mind taking a WR in the 2nd and letting him develop for a few years to eventually take over for Brown or Beasley. -
Josh Allen "Prove it" Season In Year 3

I’m not going to crap all over Allen as if everything was on him. It wouldn’t be fair. I went back and watched every game from last year and it was painful to see how many drives were stalled or points were missed because of a breakdown on the o-line, a drop by a receiver or an off target throw from Allen. He desperately needs to fix the deep ball, be more efficient, and stop being a fumbling machine. -

It’s a big year for Allen and this offense. I definitely would not call him a franchise QB right now. My standards aren’t that low. The excuses have all but dried up. I’m looking forward to see if he can continue improving. -
It’s certainly a weight off my shoulders

Hap’s chart strictly shows passer rating to different parts of the field. The links I gave go into the numbers a bit more.

Ahh, the true sign of someone who knows what they’re talking about. A lot of opinion, no sources for anything but if you think I’m wrong then you prove it! Allens weapons during his rookie year were indeed terrible. His receivers were upgraded for last season and yet his deep ball was worse than his rookie year. It’s not as if the receivers constantly couldn’t make plays on balls dropped in a bucket in front of them, majority of the time they were overthrown by several yards and didn’t even have a chance. Who here is moving the goal posts? This is a thread about his deep ball and that’s been the basis of my point. It’s certainly not the only concern and I’m sure Diggs will help Allen and the offense.

Cool, we agree. Fatal flaw meaning if he doesn’t fix it he will be out of the league? 100% false. Now you’re just being ridiculous and nonsense like this makes it impossible to have a rational discussion. This must mean that Allen was near the top of the league in throwing the most uncatchable passes. This doesn’t help any argument you’re trying to make. PFF lol Itd be easier to say you’re talking out of your rear end because essentially that’s what you’re doing

Do you have a source for this? It’s certainly not true for Allen. Can you at least agree that Allen is a poor deep ball thrower? Can you identify that there is in fact a problem? Allen’s weapons have been questionable at best I will agree but anyone who’s watching objectively can see his deep ball was horrific last year. Guys were open and he consistently overthrew them. Again, where is your source that shows 5 or 6 plays is the difference from being the best and being the worst? No one got open? Really? Are you really going to say that after watching Allen his first 2 years he didn’t miss any deep balls to open receivers.
-
You said his deep ball is improving. It’s not and it’s actually gotten worse. Facts don’t care about your feelings. Do you understand that this thread is about Allen’s deep ball? The question isn’t whether the opportunities to throw deep will be there, it’s whether Allen can take advantage of them and actually complete those passes. So far he’s proven to be a poor deep ball thrower and it’s clearly a problem.
