  1. This! They still don't have a #1 WR, so who the hell is Weeden going to throw the ball to? Not to mention I would bet they could have gotten Weeden in rd 2 or maybe 3. This one was a head scratcher.
  2. Againts the run, yes Hightower could be good. But with all the passing and 4/5 WR sets, I doubt he see's the field in dime and nickel packages. Mayock made an interesting point about Bruce Irvin(as pass rush specialist), which I think also applies to Donta Hightower. He said 4-5 years ago a player like Irvin wouldn't see the field as much, but seeing as the league is passing much much more, he'll be on the field A LOT more. So, I understand that Hightower is great in run support and pass rush via blitz, but I think his effect is nuetralized because his cover skills are questionable. LB's and Safety's that can cover are all the rage in the NFL. In dime and nickel situations, a LB will have to come off the field, I doubt its Mayo and Brandon Spikes is a good LB in his own right. Just a thought. Personally I think the Pats* crapped the bed. They didn't draft a CB(yet), they didn't draft a safety(yet) and they haven't drafted any lineman. There secondary was arguably the worst in the league last year. Matt Light is retiring and the rest of their line is aging fast(except N. Solder). Yes, they possibly replaced M. Anderson leaving with Jones. But they also drafted a run stuffing LB, which wasn't of great need. With 2 picks left in this years draft, they may in fact not fill the holes they need to.
  3. Not going to happen. He'll be selected by the Colts at 34, giving Luck a familiar target. FWIW, there isn't a Gronk or Hernandez or Graham or Davis in this draft.
  4. So let me get this straight... The Pats* secondary was HORRIBLE last year. They lost one of their DE's to us and the other hasn't been signed yet. In a pass happy league they just drafted a LB who will probably come off the field in the Nickel and Dime packages. They haven't addressed the secondary yet and replaced a DE. Personally I dont get the WOW, they can do no wrong.
  5. Meh, They didn't address the secondary yet... which was a HUGE weakness last year.
  6. We DO? You have sat down and had a discussion with Wannstedt? News flash we aren't playing the same defense anymore...
  7. So the Bills are NEVER allowed to pick a CB in the first RD? What has picking a QB early in the draft in the past decade done, what has picking a tackle early in the draft in the past decade done, what has picking a WR early in the draft in the past decade, etc etc Great point, maybe the Bills should just pass on their first rd picks
  8. Cory Webster, without looking. Next question.
  9. Jesus dude step back from the ledge Gotta love when you critcize what OTHER regimes in buffalo did.
  10. I heard the ESPN is looking to trade down and is willing to take offers. Stations interested include Food Network, Liftime for Women and the Outdoor Channel.
  11. Idk, watching NFL Network for the past 3 hours... havent seen to much on the Bills. Lots about the Jets pick though...
  12. THIS! The Giants ran a Hybrid line occasionally... JPP would kick inside and line up over the guard with Tuck playing outside him. I could see this happening with the Bills. I would think since Mario has the size he kicks inside and Merriman or Kelsay or Anderson line up on the outside of him.
  13. So the next Troy Polamalu or Ed Reed is sitting their at 10(not saying Barron is that) and you think the Bills shouldn't draft him because Dick Jauron would do something like that? Makes complete sense
  14. With the new rookie system, its possible that a trade with St. Louis or Tampa or Jax wouldn't cost the Bills their 1st and 2nd... Maybe it gets done with a swap of 1st's and a 3rd and 4th. Or a 1st and 3rd this year with a 3rd next year or something... According to the old system the #3 choice(Minnesota) is worth 1800, the Bills 1st(10th) and 2nd(41st) would get them to 1790. But again, thats with the old system. I'm hoping he slides past Minnesota, cause if he does I can see him going past cleveland and tampa. St. Lous would possibly draft Kalil so I think Tampa would be the trade.
  15. Meh, Kiper after the first 3 picks is pretty useless.
  16. Interesting. If Minnesota passes on Kalil, I wonder if Buddy would consider trading up with Tampa. Tampa could get Barron or possibly Gilmore/Kirkpatrick, which they need CB/safety help, and get them later. It also wouldn't cost as much to the Bills as it would to move into the #3 spot. Possibly a swap of 1st's plus a 3rd and a 4th.
  17. personally I think the All-Pro award is better, just doesn't get much air play because people look at Pro-Bowls instead, which I think mean less.
  18. Per Chris Mortensen: NFL Insider @MortReport on our show: The league is moving towards suspending the Pro Bowl possibly this year. Life support at best.
  19. If only it were that simple. Unfortunately its not, a 4-3 OLB is expected to do a lot of covering, whether in man2man or zone. I don't see Lights Out being able to cover TE's and RB's.
  20. Exactly. Gotta love that you have to explain consistantly to posters that Merriman is NOT an OLB in a 4-3. WILL/SAM OLB in 4-3 and 3-4 are completely different roles within the defense. Take for example our own Mario Williams... 4-3 DE, in Wade Phillips 3-4 last year OLB. Also worth noting again Merriman played DE at Maryland.
  21. Sounds like the Bills scouts agree about his cover skills being only good or adequate. Not great or amazing. For me, thats not the glowing review that I would like to hear about a #10. Doesn't sound like a game changer/play maker. Doesn't seem like he is going to help the Bills with the TE coverages more than say Wilson or Searcy.
  22. DE for the Bills for 2012(most likely): M. Williams, M. Anderson, C. Kelsay, S. Merriman Then I'd see the Bills possibly having 1 or 2 more for depth... Could be Batten or White or maybe a draft pick, but he'd definitely special teams. So yea, I'd be shocked if he makes the team.
  23. Said this in another thread, but I'll explain again... Shawne played DE in College, so DE isn't completely foreign to him. Pass rushing OLB's in a 3-4 are not the same as a SAM/WILL linebacker in a 4-3. The assignments are completely different. A DE in a 4-3 is basically a pass rushing OLB in a 3-4. Thats why last year Mario Williams went from DE to OLB. Don't get hung up on what the position is called. Wannstedt has been asked a couple times and said Merriman will be lined up at DE. Merriman himself has said he'll be playing DE and can do it. The Bills roster has him listed as DE. In short, he will be playing DE in a 4-3, and if healthy the Bills will have one MONSTER rotational defensive line.
