It's only a terrible deal for us if we keep him and he doesn't produce, past this season. If he sucks this year, we cut him. If he's average, we either cut him, or renegotiate (which he'll likely refuse, and he'll get cut). If he's awesome, then he's worth the money, and we figure it out.

As multiple teams have shown, it only takes a year or two to take a team from a losing record to the playoffs. I don't see why Whaley or Marrone should be granted longer. First step is finding a QB. Second step is putting together a decent defense. We, theoretically, have a decent defense. But that depends on if Pettine made the defense, or the players did. EJ is a complete unknown.

If we finish below .500 for the next two years, he won't make it to 4. There's no way we keep another failure of a coach around for 5 years.

To be fair.... a high ankle sprain can take a couple months to heal. And then there's the fact that he's a speed back, so he kind of depends on that area being healthy.

I can't agree with you more. I love watching CJ highlight packages from 2011-2012... he's generally given the ball with loads of room to make something happen. None of this, stuff the guy into a pile of bodies and see what happens, nonsense.

This. I imagine FredEx might be retiring after this season, and we'll see if we have the cap space to keep CJ (hopefully Mario can take a pay cut?). I won't be surprised if we draft a RB in the middle rounds this year.

What's with the talk of getting rid of SJ? We aren't in cap trouble at the moment, and he's still the best WR on this team (if not the best, at least deserving to be on the field for a majority of offensive snaps). I swear our fans have no desire to win. We always talk of cutting/getting rid of good players... because they aren't good enough.
