  1. As for leacving McCoy in, his coach said, "our school is smaller than they are. Why should I punish my kids for having a good team? We were going to score 60 points even if Paul doesn't get on the bus." I like the idea. It's football Darwinism. If you're getting beat too badly, stop fielding a team.
  2. I agree. (1) Kelsay-Denney-Schobel will get to Brad Johnson early and often, with blitzes by Ko Simpson and Crowell over the Vikes' right side, which is young and inexperienced. Brad will leave with injuries, and new-to-the-Vikes 3rd stringer (see their depth chart) Brooks Bollinger will have to take them the rest of the way. They have no 3rd QB; Jackson's a scratch. (2) McGahee, the NFL rushing leader (source) will have a field day running to his right over gimpy LDT Pat Williams, gimpy LLB Ben Leber. Jason Peters will have his best game as a Bill. (3) The Vikes' Chester Taylor isn't 100%. When he's healthy, he's a 3.7 ypc rusher. Willis is up at 4.4 right now. (4) Can we bust some big pass plays against Winfield and Smoot? If you have 3 speed burners like Evans-Price-Parrish, you can.
  3. We're doing fine at LB so far. All three of our LB's (Crowell, Fletcher-Baker, Ellison) are in the Top 25 in the NFL and Top 20 in the AFC. The only team to do this. Stats
  4. Daunte Culpepper , first year: 8.3 yards per attempt Drew Brees, first year: 8.2 yards per attempt Jake Delhomme, first year: 7.2 yards per attempt Brett Favre, first year: 6.9 yards per attempt Terry Bradshaw, first year: 6.5 yards per attempt John Elway, first year: 6.4 yards per attempt Kerry Collins, first year: 6.3 yards per attempt Mark Brunell, first year: 6.3 yards per attempt Bob Greise, first year: 6.1 yards per attempt Troy Aikman, first year: 6.0 yards per attempt Drew Bledsoe, first year: 5.8 yards per attempt David Carr, first year: 5.8yards per attempt Joe Ferguson, first year: 5.7 yards per attempt Jim Kelly, first year: 7.5 yards per attempt JP Losman, so far: 7.3 yards per attempt I'll stick with JP.
  5. I'm sure Whitner's better than Titans' Cortland Finnegan, that Free Safety from old Samford... Golly I miss that show.
  6. Frogger's right. I'd also keep him at Tackle on the same play if possible!
  7. Sounds like the players that were with the Bears are thinking the same as Bob DiCesare, though. We're getting ahead of ourselves in giddiness, but I like what I'm seeing happen.
  8. Looks like I'm looking into ground zero and there's a giant ghost frog with a bikini down there... I wish I had $1 for every time I've seen that.
  9. I'm feeling the same way. If 8-8, 9-7 gets us the last playoff spot, I could see that happening. I'm encouraged by what I saw yesterday, especially on defense. We're still weak vs. the run, weak vs. 3rd and 1, and we're learning at QB.
  10. Crowell's INT, because after looking at video of it, it was caused by Whitner! He was showing blitz. Right before the snap, Whitner rushed to the space between the LG and the LT. They moved slightly left to accommodate Whitner, leaving space for Tripplett to rush in, disrupting the pocket, rushing the throw, and allowing the INT to happen.
  11. 1. We need beef for 3rd and 1's, on O and on D. Losman on a QB sneak looks iffy. We can't stop the beefy O-Lines with fast guys when they're going for 1 yard. 2. We still need work picking up blitzes. Bell got a sack when WM whiffed on his block. 3. Villy and Fowler each gave up a sack today that didn't have to be. 4. We gotta work on the Reed-Parrish pick play that resulted in the called back TD by RP. 5. Evans needs to read the hot route that all 10 other guys read. 6. We still miss tackles vs. the run. While I'm grateful for the win, we need to play better vs. the Jets. Oh wait--they're losing 24-7. Never mind.
  12. At first glace at the stats, you'd think Tripplett wasn't any great shakes. He was credited with one assist, but a look at the video will prove otherwise. His pursuit of Culpepper caused Culpepper to throw Crowell's INT. He was being double-teamed so Denney got the sack putting them in 3rd and 32. He and Kyle Williams, or he and Kelsay, or Schobel, constantly broke down the pocket.
  13. Patience was rewarded. Lindell, Reed, Denney, Wire, you've named them. It's beginning to look like our patience with the rehabbing Willis will bear fruit as well. Hopefully we'll have the same patience with Spikes.
  14. Denny. 3 sacks in the first quarter. McGahee. Moorman.
  15. Obviously touched by the Ducks before the onsides kick went 10 yards. The refs, who didn't sleep at a Hampton Inn last night, saw it otherwise, and the home team won. Better not happen tomorrow.
  16. September 16, 1973 -- O.J SETS NEW RUSHING RECORD O.J. Simpson set a new NFL record for rushing yards in a single game, totaling 250 on 29 carries as the Bills set a team record of 360 rushing yards and routed New England, 31-13, in the season opener at Schaefer Stadium. September 16, 1985 -- DELAMIELLEURE CLAIMED OFF WAIVERS The Bills claimed former Bills star Joe DeLamielleure from Cleveland. September 15, 2002 -- BLEDSOE SETS PASSING RECORD In a thrilling 45-39 overtime victory over the Minnesota Vikings at the Metrodome, Drew Bledsoe set a team record for passing yards in a game with 463 yards as he completed three TD passes, including a 48-yard strike to Peerless Price for the winning TD. September 16, 1982 -- BILLS COME BACK TO BEAT VIKINGS In a special Thursday night match-up on ABC the Bills overcame a 19-0 first half deficit to beat the Vikings 32-22 at Rich Stadium. It was the team's first victory over Minnesota. ---------------------- Important weekend in Bills lore. Go Bills! Squish Dem Fish!
  17. You look for foreshadowing in his posts, and you find: "See you all in 25 years... When I get out for choking Phil Simms to death. --Sep 10 2006, 03:49 PM "At least I'll have plenty of company in hell" --Mar 14 2006, 03:10 PM
  18. This is awful. Hug your kids, your spouse, and take a deep breath. Whew...
  19. That's because teams leading in tackles have defenses that are on the field a lot. Which gave Ellison some experience. He notched 10 tackles, 7 assists, tying London Fletcher and Terrence McGee. This week, at weakside (Crowell will switch to SLB which is Chambers' side), he'd be likely watching Ronnie Brown and covering Booker's side. We'll see--our guys are gaining valuable experience which will pay off down the road.
  20. What Buffalo player is LISTED highest in tackles in the NFL? He is #10 in the NFL. KEITH. Looky Looky Winner by alphabetical order.
  21. Here's an interesting factoid: "The real Mularkey? Through the years, there is no doubt that defensive players have loved playing for [Dick] Jauron, now Buffalo’s head coach. You can count safety Troy Vincent in that group. Vincent, as we know, is one of those savvy veterans, someone who has a shot at replacing Gene Upshaw as executive director of the NFL Players Association. Vincent respects Jauron for who he is. While saying that, he took a little swipe at former coach Mike Mularkey, a nice-guy offensive coordinator while with the Steelers, who simply failed in Buffalo. “(Mularkey) was trying to build a personality that I’m not sure was what we were,” Vincent said this week. “You can’t teach a show dog how to fight. I have great respect for Coach Mularkey, but he tried to project a tough image … That was (Bill) Cowher.” Believe me, it is a common mistake among rookie head coaches to project a personality that is not their own. Mularkey saw the kind of success Cowher had and tried at times to emulate him. But in the process, it chipped away at his own personality and the players saw through that." Source
  22. It's OK. This way, they gain valuable experience on the job. Unlike JPL, this will continue for months, so they gain consistency and communication.
