Based on everything Beane has said since he arrived in Buffalo, I think he has the longest odds of playing for the Bills....even more so than Josh Allen. In another thread the OP did a nice job of posting several transcripts of Beane's interviews dating back to last May, it's pretty clear Jackson and Mayfield are not the prototypes Beane is looking for....could he Draft one or the other, of course....but I think he will? No, I don't...and if you read the interviews objectively, I think you come to the same conclusion. As a side note: personally, I like Jackson and those who say he's a runner, don't watch the video and you don't listen to his coach on how Jackson progressed playing in the pocket.

Ummmmm, there's a rush to judgment.... Here's a link to of QBs who've had rough starts that turned out pretty well... http://www.nfl.com/news/story/0ap3000000445192/article/troy-aikman-peyton-manning-among-qbs-with-bad-first-starts Peterman is probably a career back-up and may never amount to much in the NFL, but already calling him a failure at this point - by indicating the Bills "can't" win with him as a QB is so incredibly premature, even the 12 yr old boy hyped up Viagra can't believe it....

Not to nit-pick, but the closest thing to Elway in this Draft is Josh Allen....arm strength, size, and mentality. The only future HOFer I can think of that someone would want to compare Mayfield to is Brees...and while the whole height issue does help, it's more about bootlegs, roll-outs, seeing through the traffic, backing way up to get a clear line of sight, and then the rest...completions, similar arm strength, etc. Also, IMHO, Josh Rosen is far closer to Marino than you're giving him credit for....back then QBs took a beating and nobody gave a poop about concussions unless they were walking in circles asking for an ice cream....obviously concussions were significantly under reported and undetected, so if that's the issue, i.e. health sustainability, I don't think it's a fair comparison. Just to be clear, I'm for staying put at 12 and letting the Draft come to the Bills because I see this QB class as more wide than deep as in, there will be 6, maybe 7, good QBs to come out of this class, and none of them are so head and shoulders above the rest that I can see the reasoning to trade the farm to move to #2...

For all who want to trade up so bad

Fair enough and to each his own....but i would like to point out, Jackson’s in-pocket development was significant from last year to this, and his determination to learn how to avoid running too quickly, is something that Vick didn’t truly ever get but it did get better basically as his body demanded him to...just throwing that out there for food for thought. -
Nick Foles Could Be in Your Future

There has been this presumption that the Bills traded those picks to get a QB this year, but has anyone in the Bills organization said this? I don’t think so... its also plausible the Bills new a roster overhaul was necessary and wanted all the picks they could get. But I will agree moving up to 12 is about “a” QB....but I’m not convinced they trade up after that to get a guy all the fans believe is the future. -

To me, what makes this Draft class so unique is that there truly could be 5 or 6 amazing QBs who all bring their individual ability to lead a franchise. To make this point, some of the best QBs in the NFL do it all very differently: 1. Darnold - Rivers 2. Rosen - Eli 3. Mayfield - Brees 4. Rudolph - Tannehill 5. Jackson - a better version of Vick 6. Allen - Big Ben (if accuracy can improve) 7. Mike White - Cousins And that’s not accounting for guys like Luke Falk or Kyle Lauletta. Remember guys like Jimmy G, Cousins, Russ Wilson, Derek Carr were all taken in 2nd Round or later. What this means to me is that this is not Winston / Mariotta where you basically have 2 guys, head and shoulders above the rest. You’ve got a great QB class that is wide and deep....which IMO means you use that to your advantage. -
I say we will not draft a QB round 1
BigBuff423 replied to mead107's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Well, according to Beane - moving from 21 to 12 is the equivalent of a 2nd round grade and that the guys they liked were in the 10-12 range and they believed they were wasting their time looking at certain players since they weren’t falljg to 21. And that does signal to me a QB, but I also believe he’s telling us the truth about not necessarily trading up - and allowing the Draft to come to them. -

I disagree....I think McCarron’s presence nullifies Foles as an option. Beane & tesm dis their homework, they got the guy they wanted. But I do think they take a QB early, just doubt they trade too far up - if at all - to do it. -
Jets just traded with Colts for #3 pick in first round
BigBuff423 replied to Hurricane's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
First, since the Combine that narrative has been exposed as patently false. Second, of all the QBs in this Draft, his adjusted completion percentage is the highest, coming in at the solid mid-70% rate. And I too have watched Lamar play, he will be good. Almost wherever he goes, but in certain systems he can be great. -

And yet, Rosen and Jackson are the only two who played consistently in a Pro Style Offense. Jackson won the Heisman, he actually greatly improved in his pocket passing and was highly coachable in this regard according to reports - and he ran the same basic style Offense Daboll has used and is expected to continue to use...also, the same Offense the Pats* have used for years. Just putting some balance on this for consideration. -

Let’s play Devil’s advocate for a moment, let’s say the Draft goes as follows: 1. Browns - Darnold 2. Giants trade with Denver - Rosen 3. Jets - Mayfield 4. Browns - Barkley 5. Giants - Chubb 6. Colts - Nelson 7. Tampa - Fitzpatrick 8. Bears - Tremaine Edmunds 9. 49ers - Ward 10. Raiders - Smith (MLB) 11. Dolphins - Ridley That means Buffalo would have a choice between Allen or Jackson. Is the difference between those two and the other 3 so great that they are worth Harrison Phillips? Or Price? Or Brown (RT)? Or Rashaan Evans?....just a consideration. -

In that scenario that has Bills trading back into 1st for a QB, and I could be wrong but given the Bills’ two 1st round picks, I just don’t see that happening. As to taking a crappy QB, I trust Beane and his team - so I don’t think that happens either. Now, maybe waiting to Draft a QB until 2nd round, I could see that happening. But not overpaying, teaching too high, or failing to understand how to acquire the talent via the Draft, are not concerns as far as I can tell. -

And with that the Jets select Josh Rosen. -
Bills GM: Not certain we move up to take QB
BigBuff423 replied to SlimShady'sSpaceForce's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
IMHO, Jackson is already far better than Tyrod. He was in an NFL Offense, developed much better pocket passing ability this last year. Additionally, this is a good example of why I think the Bills wanted a guy like AJ who could be a competent NFL QB while a QB like Jackson matures. -

To me people are confusing trading UP for Drafting one in the first round. As I said earlier in the thread, I think the Bills Draft a QB - and probably in the 1st round - but that doesn’t necessarily mean going into top 5....I think they see what’s there at 12 - which to me is why they did that - and possibly take their guy there and use the rest of the picks to get good football players. At at this point, I truly believe it’s possible they take a guy like Jackson at 12, with the intent of AJ starting a year or two, and giving Jackson that time to take over. -
Yeah it won’t be until Draft day that I’m convinced the Bills are moving up....they may be, but given recent information, I’m not convinced.

Who is your #2 WR to Target in free agency?
BigBuff423 replied to Bing Bong's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Bills obviously need a WR, but I think Zay’s natural position is the slot...so I think they need a good boundary WR, with more speed than Benjamin. I think Benjamin is your possession receiver at this point. Pryor would be nice, Brice Butler is a reasonable option, not sure about Marlin at this point - I think he’d cost too much. Ryan Grant is now an option as well. -
Bills looking to add a free agent CB
BigBuff423 replied to Buffalo_Stampede's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
There are some nice names on that list. I really thought Lawson would be a good fit for the Bills and to see him take a reasonable contract only bites a little harder...still some good players out there. Let's hope the Bills can make it happen. -
Dude....seriously, it's time to build a bridge and get over it. Why in God's name would a HC, knowing the GM and his staff are out the door, spend a high Draft pick on a QB the next GM didn't pick?? Then we'd spend the next three years figuring out if he was the right pick, who to blame and what needs to be done to fix it...if it didn't work...sound familiar? Like, I don't know, EJ Manuel and Buddy Nix on his way out the door. McD did the right thing in acquiring more Draft capital for what is believed to be one of the best QB Drafts in nearly 14 years....this was the smart move...please stop complaining and move on....
-
Rivera relied on McD a great deal to run the Defense and McD had a few good years in Philly as well, so let's not assume that to be an aberration. Second I have no idea where you're getting "top 3" Defense, but that is way off, 9th best according NFL.com Additionally, the strength of that Carolina Defense was the front 4 and Kuechly, with a nice article or two about that very thing written in December about the struggles of their Corners but the front 4 and Luke make the Defense powerful...as for Star, again, you can make the argument, some players just need a change of scenery to return to form. Also, going to playoffs had as much to do with the T.O.P. by Cam and their Offense and McCaffrey as it did anything else. In fact, their Defense was not that good when facing teams who had a good WR corp, and keep in mind part of their Defensive ranking was bolstered by facing an anemic Buffalo Offense that posted just 3 points in an entire game. And the same scouts you say were so important to the Draft, were summarily dismissed within a day or two of the Draft. I highly doubt, other than putting together a binder, the scouts and or Whaley had much influence on whom to choose and when. Was the gathered information used? Well, damn, I hope so...otherwise it was giant exercise in futility for the Buffalo FO last year, but having that information and knowing HOW to use it are two different things.....if they weren't almost NO GM would be fired, because every organization can accumulate information and reports.

Do you see the irony here? #spellingcountswhenyoucriticize -
I think Miller is going to have a really nice rebound year...in the power scheme he was quite good. PFF and others did some metrics / analytics, he was good. Last year's zone scheme was a not fit for him, but with Daboll I think he does well again. But, no doubt the Bills need to fill that turnstile at RT position!
