USC EDGE Uchenna Nwosu visiting Bills

I'm guessing McD and Beane agree....it seems too small to be a DE in their Defense. -
Beane Bad Player Relations ?
BigBuff423 replied to Jamie Muellers Ghost's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Beane was willing to give Kyle Williams some time to evaluate whether he wanted to come back and while there was a deadline, they said right from the start they'd welcome him back with open arms. That doesn't sound like a guy who doesn't care about players. Beane strikes me as this is a business, and we must agree on business principles, but once those are done - we care about the players just as much. I think Beane won't make moves or decisions that are detrimental to the team, no matter who that player is but those who can and want to play for the Bills, in their terms, they are part of a family. -
Baker Mayfield in big game Vs Ohio State
BigBuff423 replied to PrimeTime101's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
The lanes he had to throw in were so wide, Helen Keller could have passed to the receiver. I may be very wrong, but I have my concerns about how Mayfield will complete those passes when the throwing lanes are much narrower, the pocket smaller, and the linemen faster. -
I'm not really sure why you feel the need to attempt to marginalize and insult a group of people who simply don't agree with your opinion? I've been one who is against trading too far up, although on several occasions I've mentioned Tampa at 7 simply because it wouldn't be cost prohibitive. However, I'm equally comfortable standing pat and seeing how the Draft falls given the mass exodus of talent and good players. That said, if getting to 7 "only" took a 2nd to get there, as much as I don't like it, I certainly understand it if Rosen were still available as Galko suggests just to guarantee the team gets Rosen (presuming their love for his accurate). But still, I point to my above posts and ask, if Galko is accurate, who wants a QB in the first round that can reasonably jump ahead into top 10? Maybe the Pats with 2 1sts, but that's about it and it would take more than their 2 1sts to get to the Raiders or higher just because they're so low in the 1st round and I'm not convinced the Pats want to do that....

Here we go again with a new QB
BigBuff423 replied to RocCityRoller's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I think you truly under-value the Offensive line pieces in place. Groy will be ok, Newhouse hopefully turns Mills into an NFL orphan and there is still the Draft and Bodine who signed and was a 4 year starter in Cincy (he gets a bad rap, but the whole Offensive line was rough and it's hard to be the only one blocking - trust the process). And, while I don't agree with your "the sky is falling" kind of cry for help, I do agree this is not the Draft to trade away too much to move up. This QB class is wide / deep, not singularly phenomenal down to one or two. In other words, the guy you can get at 12, is probably pretty close to as good as the guy you can get at 4. Use the picks for rebuilding the roster - Offensive line is a need (just not in the same way you mentioned, IMO), LBers of course, another boundary WR and CB depth. I'd like a DT but Kyle Williams is back, Star was signed and there's still the other depth guys, so at this point, it's not as much of a need as it was to start FA. -
And this is why I love what Beane and company are doing thus far. Absolutely indicating they're willing to stay put because they won't over pay for a Draft pick. Right now, as it stands, there is no one trying to push Buffalo out of the way now that the Jets are in the #3 spot. That means, if they did try and trade up today, they would essentially be bidding against themselves. It makes sense for Beane to just.....wait. See how the top 3 shake out and see what actually happens. I'm sure there will be some indication prior to Draft night since Cleveland can be bold and do whatever they'd like. But right now, it seems the trade up to 12 was so smart.

Nope, that's my mistake. Apologies, for some reason when I first read your post, I thought I saw 22 in there along with those picks. Went back and re-read it and it was confusion on my part. To that end, that seems justified. That said, I think personally I would rather give up the 22 and keep both 2nds just because what the Bills need: LB / DT / Interior O-linemen are deep this year and getting two of them on top of the QB would be a really big plus before the 2nd round ends. Essentially, you'd have your QB a LG and MLB....DT is really good this draft so I'd wait until the 3rd if I had to give up one of the first four picks to get to 4.....one more reason, with all the information mentioned, I think I'd play the gambler and wait until everything shakes out in the top 5 and start trading hunting around #7 and see what the price is.....JMO All of this I understand, but the rest of Galko's info is that the Cards nor the Ravens want to invest in a QB in the 1st, so that leaves who? Everyone else is way down the chart that could consider grooming a replacement, i.e. Saints. So theoretically the Saints could give up a ton to go get a guy, but if Mayfield and Darnold are gone and it's down to Rosen and Jackson in the top 4, how far do you think the Saints can or want to go when Brees is still playing lights out AND they've re-designed their scheme to be more of a running based Offense? I think they're in a similar situation as the Giants: great QB with a couple years left and they want to maximize the opportunities. Saints would have to give up a boatload to get into the top 10.....so that begs the question, who threatens the Bills before #12? I'm sure there IS a team out there, which is why I look at Tampa as the landing spot, but the cost to go from 12 to 7, is so significant in difference it warrants the wait, again IMHO.

John Miller will have a resurgent year, I believe that through and through. New power run scheme is perfectly suited for him. -
You are probably right....but I think that's over payment and not one I would be comfortable with given the aforementioned scenario. I look at Miami and think, they have big money in Tannehill and I don't think they can make the jump to 4 without multiple years' picks and that's asking for Gase to be fired since they've lost Landry and Suh. I think Miami knows they're tied to Tannehill's contract and need play-makers to help him and replace Landry at 11 ala Ridley. Then Defense in Round 2, DT is deep this year without the money or the headaches of Suh. Other than them, IF and it's a tremendous IF, all other info is right, no one wants a QB as early as the Bills outside of the Browns and Jets....so at that point you're bidding against yourself. If Rosen makes it past the Broncos, you have to play it cool and know the asking price for the next four spots before the Draft begins with this scenario in mind. If it seems like an easy asking price, you do it, if it's multiple 1st round picks, you stay put.l

Maybe he didn't realize April 10th is not like April Fool's minus the "0"??? -
If all of this information is accurate, the Bills could trade with Tampa to #7 and take Rosen and only need to give up the 3rd Round pick they received from Browns for Tyrod. That would make your above scenario: 12 & 65 for Rosen / Rashaan Evans or Vander Esch / Tre White for Mahomes, Cordy, and TBD 3rd Rounder I mean, to each his own, but I'm thinking that's the wrong end of the plumbing system given your emoji....
-
The thing I don't understand, is the Bills are fighting to move to #4....but after Broncos, no one besides Miami will want a QB before the Bills pick at 12. So, if the info is believed to be true (not saying is or isn't), then Rosen, Jackson, and probably Allen are there are 12. Why trade up? I continue to think the Bills want to stay at 12, the information provided only validates that IMO....now, who knows what Galko is saying to be true or accurate, but it "sounds" reasonable. And again, the Bills made all of the moves to acquire picks, except to move up to 12 BEFORE the season even started. So, while I can see the 12th pick for the Bills being valuable, as Beane said they had a guy in mind that won't last until the 12th pick, I don't necessarily think it's to trade up. I think they got the picks to rebuild the roster in a hurry. JMO

Given USC QB's & Bills/USC History @ QB ...
BigBuff423 replied to T master's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I understand your point and for all of us who have lived through these lean years after going through the real highs of the Jim Kelly era, know how shotgun shy we've become with QBs. But that said, you really can't have a bias against a QB simply because of the college he's played for just like you can't look at a college and assume their QBs will be NFL greats just because a few have. Otherwise, Brad Kaaya would have been Jim Kelly and taken the reigns from Stafford. That said, I for one am NOT a fan of trading UP simply because I think this QB class is not elite in terms of 1 or 2 prospects, but I do think it's deep. I think you can easily find 7 QBs who can and will do a good to great job as an NFL QB and with that in mind, you retain your picks and maybe even trade back from 22 depending on how the Draft comes to you. But, I am in the minority and that probably includes the Bills. However, as I've said elsewhere, everyone assumes all of this Draft capital is to trade UP. But Beane and company essentially showed their hand before last season and they believed they'd be a top 10 pick, without the need to trade up and STILL acquired these picks. That tells me the "original" plan was to Draft a QB in the top 10 with their pick, and use all of the other picks on remaking the roster. That means, IMHO, Beane would need to be so overwhelmingly convinced that the guy they need to trade UP for is much better than the guy they can get at 12 or later, DEMANDS they trade up. I'm not sold on that idea...that Beane believes he needs to make that jump. Maybe he does....I just don't think he's convinced at this point. -
Yeah, honestly, I think Beane and McD see those guys as replacement level players. I think all of those guys will be Drafted in a younger, more schematically designed fit for the Bills. Donta Jackson is a great example as a CB you want to take over the Nickel slot CB...Anthony Miller is a good 2nd / 3rd round WR to be opposite Benjamin since Zay is the slot guy and O'Daniel is a good LBer for the Bills in the mid-rounds as well. That's not to say that's who the Bills Draft, although IMHO that would be great, but just as examples. I think the Bills know they need their Rooks to play this year and paying these guys pretty much guarantees the Rookies don't get the experience, see Milano, Matt from 2017. Milano worked his way on but it took Humber's injury to give him the real shot and he played well to keep it.

Bills going to LA to visit and workout Sam Darnold
BigBuff423 replied to YoloinOhio's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Right, which is why I pointed to the due diligence aspect. Unlikely, but if the Bills are going to trade up (yet to be seen), then you better damn well make sure he (whomever "he" is) is absolutely worth it. -

I don't think he makes it past the Browns at #1....but, due diligence for sure. -
That may be your opinion, and to each his own. But it's hard to accept when you watch Rudolph's games and see him routinely pass the ball 50-60 yards in the air downfield. So, while I completely recognize long balls require a different strength than quick zip balls, he does have those throws in the 10-15 yard distances with tight windows. He can, and should, get better with zip (to some degree, you can't make it significantly better) but that is the ONE area everyone points to when it comes to Rudolph. His Offense is no different than Mayfield's or Darnold's yet that is often used in referencing how Rudolph isn't as good as those others. I'll eat my crow, but Rudolph goes to a team who knows how to use him, gives him a year on the bench to grow a bit stronger, learn the Offense and gain NFL confidence, and he will be a top 10 QB. Will he pass for 5000 yds and 40 TDs? Almost certainly not, but I think he absolutely can be a guy who passes for close to 4,000 yards, 25-28 TDs, and helps lead an Offense to a top 5 in scoring.

1. The bolded part seems to be the qualifier as "huge" in that Dak's is fine, it's not just Stafford like. Rudolph has average arm strength as well, his downfield throws show he's got the arm but not that high speed velocity that Josh Allen or Rodgers or Newton have. That's not a deal breaker, plenty of good QBs have average arm strength. Look at the article from 20 years ago when comparing Peyton to Leaf...Peyton wasn't thought to have a "huge" arm either, but we know how that worked out. 2. As for how it worked out for Cowboys, I'd say they did all right....and yes, sometimes we're protected from our own poor decisions by extraneous factors. Russell Wilson, 3rd, Cousins, 4th, now Dak in 4th....keep in mind, everyone who thinks they KNOW what QBs will do well and which ones won't are simply over confident. Rudolph has had one of the best college careers and he's shown he can throw deep, make progressions - give Trapasso credit for pointing this out and showing you how he's doing it, and is accurate. Can he throw the ball on a frozen rope on the 20 yard out? Probably not right now....but velocity can improve just a notch...and he doesn't need it to be improved that much. The key will be will the OC scheme to fit Rudolph's strengths? But, that could be said about all the QBs, especially the Rookie type and this year seems to be even more in that direction. Rudolph is a decent late 1st to 2nd round guy. He'll be good on the right team in the right system.

No...nope, not now.....I loved this kid coming into the Draft. Thought he would be exactly what he has been....when ON the fricken field and not doing dumb stuff! But, with a 3rd Round pick for a WR, there are just as good if not better WRs for the Bills in this year's Draft....I don't think Anthony Miller lasts that long, but if he did, he would be a phenomenal "get" for the Bills. There's a number of others the Bills could use and they don't come with his baggage or risk of a long suspension.

In full disclosure (not the Zay Jones type) I am not a fan of Mayfield on the field as I think his incredible Offensive line provided him far more time and room in the pocket to throw than he'll ever get in the NFL. Additionally, I have questions about the scheme. However, as I've also said, I would support any QB the Bills Draft since I am, after all, a Bills fan. With that in mind, I do think Baker presents himself as an entitled little piss-ant who reminds me of the QB whose father is the coach and feels he can do whatever he likes simply because, "My Daddy is the ball coach!"....also, it should be said, that while drunk certainly impairs your decision making, it's not like it "makes" you do the things you do, you simply lose the inhibition and ability to think clearly. So, when the wife says, "I was drunk, that's why I had the the threesome with your brother and neighbor's wife", thaaaaaat's not really accurate. What it means, is she wanted to all along, but the opportunity didn't present itself while her decision making ability was impaired. Baker ran because he wanted to avoid consequences, right? I mean Duh?! But, also running indicates guilt and it indicates an awareness that he was caught and didn't own it....when you put that with the flag and crotch incident ON the field, which is far more the concern than most things off of it, it paints the picture of a young man who has not quite found a way to channel that chip on his shoulder to focused energy. Does that mean he can't be successful? Of course not....he's still young and a little bit of a brat....but, with some maturity, a mentor, solid boundaries established by the coaching staff, and an internal desire to grow the f up and be a grown man about his business - he could be fantastic. Some of the best stories come from the worst disasters....he has a story right now, but how's it going to end? Well....he's the author, so we'll find out.
