  1. Yes, but his collegiate completion percentage of 57% ia a LOT lower than even EJ Manuel's. If Manuel is too inaccurate, what do yo expect from a player that completed 10 of 100 passes fewer than Manuel? Not saying Manuel is the guy, but just saying check your enthusiasm for Taylor.
  2. There really is little to no case for Cassel to start. Playing him says that the Bills' think they have a better defense than the 85 Bears, SB Champ Ravens, and a few other historically GREAT defenses. There is about a 1 in 1000 chance that this team goes far in the playoffs with Matt Cassel at QB. First, Cassel has played well in only 2 of 10 seasons and 0 of the last 4 seasons. Secondly, it is RARE for a team to win the SB with a journeyman QB. Lest anyone think that I believe that Tyrod Taylor or EJ Manuel are much better options - i don't. However, at least with both you have SOME chance that they will improve with experience.
  3. But, but, but he is THE intellectual because some study supports never punting as the best approach on 4th down! Never mind that it was based on the current NFL success rate on 4th down - do you think those same coaches that are so dumb that they can't follow the "analytics" would go for it on 4th down if they didn't think that they had a very high probability of success? The "analytics" are questionable based on the sample set. Let's see, 4th and 8 from your own 15 yard line when leading by 7 in the first half is equivalent to 4th and 1 down by 7 at opponents 20 in the 4th qtr?
  4. I have a feeling that they may cycle through all 3 during the regular season due to poor play by each.
  5. While I am not expecting a trade for a QB, I can't agree tha t the Bills' QB situation is anything other than one of the 5 worst in the league.
  6. +1 I hope that both have very good games.
  7. You might be right on with that take.
  8. So they missed on a 1st round QB pick? Go look at the success rate of even 1st round QBs - it isn't good. The Bills are not at all unique in having a busted 1st round QB. There aren't many really good NFL QBs. When you don't have one, you have to take a shot.
  9. Agreed, but none of the reporters who are interpreting whom they think is in the lead have knowledge of any of those things. It is true that the coaches do have that information and it surely counts in the race.
  10. I've been HOPING that EJ would win this competition, but It looks to be playing out in the worst possible way. If neither Manuel or Taylor are good enough to beat out career backup Matt Cassell, the season will be a bust. I expect the defense will play very well for about 2/3 of the season and then become very frustrated with the offense's inability to contribute. The run game will be held in check by defenses with no threat of a passing attack and the WRs will be frustrated. I am not in the camp that believes the Bills were grossly negligent in not drafting another QB, because I don't think there was anyone there to take. Still, they are not going anywhere, including a wild-card position with Cassell at QB.
  11. This is beautiful, Joe B just declares that Manuel pass was "horrid". Sounds like maybe the problem wasn't the pass.
  12. And that would be nice compared to how the local media would react - think "Mario over-payed and done, wasted money on Hughes and Dareus needs to grow up" type stories.
  13. I also would have to say Barry Sanders and I also liked Ken Stabler. My memory says that Sanders was by far the most elusive RB I've ever seen. OJ might have been as good but his style was more speed and power with some elusiveness rolled in. A couple of others that I thought were special were Earl Campbell and Larry Czonka. Campbell was a beast who was fast and could run over a tank. Czonka wasn't fast but seemingly was untackleable without at least 3 defenders.
  14. Well on GR, if you ask them what football analytics are they say "duh, you are statistically better off going for the 1st down on 4th down instead of punting." They don't take into consideration how good the offense or defense is, down and distance, score and time remaining,...
  15. Is there any qualified good NFL OL coach available to fill this soon-to-be-vacancy?
  16. Really depends on what it costs to get one of those guys, but it is really late to bring another QB in and have him learn the offense well enough to compete on even footing. If Mike Glennon or Mettenberger could beat out any of the current QBs on the roster without benefit of the offseason learning, then the Bills are in a whole heap of trouble
  17. Believe it, it is common. Even my own son, who is a very good kid, has rolled that one out. They hear all this at school and many of them think the focus on anti-child-abuse makes them immune to punishment.
  18. 59.8%, 201 yards/game, 8TDs, 7INTS Sounds VERY similar to EJ Manuel's rookie stats, but many here think he is a bust.
  19. Bad news for the team if he misses any camp time (or even camp prep time). The OL is not good and didn't get a lot of personnel help in the offseason. They need all of the work and coaching that they can get, especially with the offense intended to be heavily run focused.
  20. Hmm, a pseudo-scholarly article that looked at revenue, but didn't consider the ratio of attendance to market size? Of course the larger cities can charge more as you ought to be able to max out supply with equivalent or smaller stadiums in markets 4+ times the size of Buffalo. It is truly remarkable that a depressed market this size can fill one of the larger stadiums with for a consistently below average team at any ticket price
  21. +1. Rooting for him. He always handled himself with class and never complained publicly.
  22. Seriously, what potential did you see in Manziel? He made his living and reputation in college running around and throwing high passes that his 6'5" 1st round pick WR Mike Evans bailed him out on. Gimmicky offense that allows decent college QBs to put up great numbers. Then in the NFL, we'll surely you couldn't have seen potential in any of his games - could you? It wasn't the case of a highly talented kid got derailed by alcohol, but rather a mediocre talent didn't work hard and was also undermined by alcohol. If he has cleaned up his partying, he is still a backup at best in the NFL. He is NOT anything like Russell Wilson or even close to what Doug Flutie was.
  23. How does the drop off correlate with Kaepernick taking over at QB from Alex Smith? I think it correlates pretty closely. Kaep started taking over end of 2012 and was the starter in 2013 and 2014.
  24. I think Spiller will do well with the Saints. I even think that they might throw it to him a few times (where was that in the bills' offense?)
  25. I think that D'Alesandro was the prize that walked.
