This is one of the most succinct explanations I've seen on the topic.

I'm still trying to figure out how these two issues are related. Personally, I'm kind of surprised the flag's still there and this controversy didn't spring up earlier, but I have yet to hear a non-retarded explanation of the link between the flag and the shooting. I'm also curious to hear someone try to reconcile the theory of evolution with the modern day politically correct view of race and racism.

Is it my ears or do customer service reps suck?

I used to do that job and in my experience people who get hung up on generally show more than a little aggravation. Usually they're being borderline abusive to someone who has no say in the policy, had no role in blocking the charge, and has been provided minimal information about the cause of the situation. You may be an exception, but most people who get hung up on have it coming. -

And unlike this situation we'd be constantly reminded that the acts of one man are just that. I doubt it would be popular to use it as a springboard for a "dialogue" on religious hostilities - particularly Muslim against non-Muslim hostilities. -
I don't get Fox News either so I can't say for sure, but I saw someone else argue it was said by someone the first morning after it happened when the details were still fuzzy. I'm not sure how accurate that is, but it's what I read.

You seem to harbor a lot of hatred for a man you don't know, and seem to know very little about, because you disagree with his politics.
-
Most of the statistics that "prove" this are manipulated and misleading. This is a fairly informative piece that discusses the issue in a little more depth: http://people.duke.edu/~gnsmith/articles/myths.htm Stay classy

I don't know about that. This is being used as a catalyst for the "dialogue on race" we're so often told we need to have. I haven't seen this much open hostility towards white people as a race in some time - it's taking place on a national stage and it's all due to the acts of one guy. If he was trying to stir up racial strife I'd say he's been wildly successful.
-
I'd just like to point out how impressed I am with this thread. The discussion's been civil with virtually no LAMPs. All over FB I see people taking this situation as an opportunity to tell everyone how compassionate and racially sensitive they are. It's refreshing how real this board has kept it. Sure, there are a few who immediately view every tragedy as an opportunity to advance their political narrative, but I'll take that over the bogus self-serving bull ****.
-
So the acts of one man are imputed to the society at large? Does that apply to violent acts performed by members of all racial and ethnic groups against others or just white against black? Or are you just trying to earn your "I'm one of the good ones" T-shirt?

Poor little OBJ getting bullied

I reject how he self-identifies. He should take a day off to unwind. Maybe take his gf to the Brooklyn Zoo. -
I don't know the answer either, but I wonder if he would have given up if he hadn't gotten a gun or if he might he have done something else. Like chaining the doors shut and setting the place on fire.
-
That's a pretty skewed article that conflates gun violence generally with mass shootings and in doing so fails to support its premise that mass killings are more common in the US.
-
What does that mean? I'd say murder also requires the intent to kill someone who doesn't pose an immediate threat to you or someone else. But in reality, the only difference between the death penalty and murder is that we don't call it murder when the state does it. I'm stealing this.

Your three most salient political issues
Rob's House replied to Juror#8's topic in Politics, Polls, and Pundits
I think it's important to draw a distinction between intervention and nation building. I won't even go so far as to say either is categorically good or bad, but the former is not necessarily anywhere near as risky or costly as the latter. I find that too many people refuse to take a realistic position. You can't have a first world society while simultaneously restricting excavation and extraction of fossil fuels, preventing expansion of nuclear energy, and refusing to perform the intervention necessary to keep energy flowing throughout the global market. At least one of those has to give. -
If you could not only mention, but further explain the "gatorman fallacy" that would be legendary.

He quit on his team mid-season. I'd have to be pretty hard up to waste a roster spot on him. -

I'm boycotting this thread. -
Birth of a Nation aside, if they were talking about something remotely similar to that which you are describing it wouldn't be so ridiculous. But it's gotten to the point where anytime a white person dresses up as a black person in any way, a significant contingency of hyper-sensitive douche bags declares it to be highly offensive because it's somehow comparable, in a way they can't explain, to what you're describing. It's nonsensical. If Soul Man with C. Thomas Howell came out today these same dip shots would be outraged. It's this same idiocy that leads little morons like this girl's brother to decry her act as offensive because it's "Blackface" and thus inherently racist.

Translation: We're a bunch of candy ass pansies who bleed like a kitty over anything that could be construed as mildly sexist or racist, not because of any reasoned or principled stance, but because we were raised on political correctness and accept it like the religious zealots we are. -

Hulk Hogan takes the crown, and quite frankly it isn't even close. After being the "sport's" hero for 2 decades he finally went bad and made the best heel ever as Hollywood Hogan. The runner up IMO is Stone Cold Steve Austin because he was a great **** talker (and that's really what it's all about). Also, Roddy Piper, Bobby Heenan, and Brother Love were some of the best entertainers as managers and commentators. Honorable mention for Brutus Beefcake. That guy was awesome. -
But the race thing was the basis of McCoy's argument. That Kelly didn't like arrogant loudmouths was the counterargument to McCoy.
