  1. everyone kind of looks like they are playing in slow motion. Is this my residual NyQuill haze or are we watching a slow game?
  2. I'm reading "It Came From Memphis" by Robert Gordon. it's a brilliant breakdown of why Memphis was the only town that could have birthed rock and roll. Really amazing book can not recommend it enough
  3. yeah man, that's true. but every now and again those tent pole movies kill it (and end up making giant piles of money) which makes the bland nothing blockbusters (Transformers 1/2, Avatar etc etc) even worse. Star Trek was actually a pretty decent movie. the Bourne movies are solid, The Dark Knight is amazing, the first 2 Spiderman movies are great...lots of examples. Cameron, to me, has gone the way of George Lucas. He has crawled way too far up his own special effects ass. The film merely is a delivery system for whatever new effects program he commissioned.
  4. I can be pretty tough on the big Hollywood films. But as far as "Aliens" goes I am obsessed with "Alien"...I think it's one of the coolest movies ever made. Works as sci-fi, drama, a haunted house movie. Just insanely cool and perfect. "Aliens" is just kind of a big dumb action film that would be fine if it wasn't a sequel to one of the best genre films ever produced. "True Lies"? meh. Tom Arnold is in that movie. Is there a greater metaphor for suck? and yeah man, "Titanic" is barely watchable. 3 hours of people walking down hallways.
  5. Say what you want about Cameron (and I only have bad things to say about him---outside of Terminator all his films are boring as a dog's ass. Just fancy effects and no soul) he at least makes big screen movies. I know he planned Avatar to be 3-D all along. I was totally underwhelmed by the film. I thought it was a soulless bland slab of nothing. Nice eye candy but immediately forgettable.
  6. These bands have got to stop getting back together. outside of Mission of Burma and Dinosaur jr it has been an across board trainwreck of garbage. Stooges? New York Dolls? Blue Cheer? Superdrag? all embarrassing. And all the others I don't feel like typing out. Now granted I never liked Soundgarden to begin with (Chris Cornell's voice makes me want to punch everything), so I'm biased. Though for a good time check out Kim Thayll's (sp?) guitar work on that Ascend record. very cool.
  7. It can always get worse...and more apt http://www.theonion.com/content/news/michael_vick_fails_to_inspire_team
  8. Further proof Madden is nothing like real life: I won two straight super bowls with Trent. He was the MVP both seasons. That means 1. The OP is still right 2. i should control Trent with a magical PS3 controller
  9. Notre Dame is also a tough team to coach because the school actually makes the players go to class. My experience teaching at a DIV I football school involves knowing, easily, 90% of classes get ignored by the football team. ND does not consider this to be alternate universe professional football--they actually hope the kids have a future. Weis may or may not be a genius, but he probably has access to those kids half of the time a program like Oklahoma does.
  10. I'd give him a solid 5. Didn't seem to have much agility and I was hoping for 1 big throw. But then Trent wouldn't have done much better so it wasn't like I felt there was some kind of lost opportunity today. By the end of the game I realized I still had no idea if Brohm held any promise or not--that's what bothered me the most about the game.
  11. That's exactly why so many people on here have a boner for Vick. Has nothing to do with ability or how he'll fit in with the Bills or even the implications such a hire would have in the fan base. Nope, they've heard of him. that's it.
  12. Coming out and showing huge potential? That's a pretty classy problem to have. personally I think that would be great. if it turns out we have a gunslinger we can spend the offeseason building an o line and developing a playbook that addresses Brohm's talents (i.e. no more "pop warner"). Having a tiny little sliver of hope going into the offseason? Sounds good to me, My fear is Brohm does not light it up, does not throw 250+ yards, does not throw 3-4 TDs and everyone on here starts screaming about Trent (or JP) again.
  13. The book that got me into Vonnegut in High School was "Breakfast of Champions." I don't remember what it was about at all, but I do remember loving it. And there's pictures. That's all I remember. i did plow through his entire bat catalog after reading that...for whatever it's worth. I read one book by Palahniuk, "Diary," and didn't like it at all. My girlfriend is a pretty big fan, but something just doesn't click with me.
  14. Not many people could go through life as a herpes ravaged animal torturer.....so I guess he's kinda right.
  15. I could not put it better myself. bringing in washed up former "name" players is not a commitment to turning this mess around....it's a commitment to develop bigger and brighter cereal ideas. If you are excited to buy Lucky Vicks (now with marshmallow herpes!) go nuts. I would also walk away if Vick became the QB answer. It is no better than what we have now, it's just more nonsense to sell jerseys.
  16. Totally agree. I'll bet half the defense is thinking about retirement after this season. get some good changes during the offseason, or at least the chance to rest, and they'll all be back. For better or worse.
  17. yikes...now we all know Fitz will totally get better sometime saturday afternoon. If only to !@#$ with all our hopes and dreams. Was getting excited to see Brohm play too. Ah well

  19. Philly/dallas is clearly the better game, but people do love watching "history." I remember when Mark mcGuire was about to break the single season home run record thos game were being shown nationally. casual fans love that kind of stuff. However a team just went 16-0 a couple years ago--the novelty is dead. I say no flex. Besides, I don't want the whole country watching the Bills. Times are tough; America doesn't need that.
  20. awww, that's adorable. I say: 11 for 23 125 yards 1 TD 2 INT pretty good day out for a Bills QB
  21. word. +1000! Eagles don't even let him pass--that has got to say something to the apologists. He may find success doing something that capitalizes on his speed, but he is not a good enough QB for the money he asks for. Plus, you know, that whole dirtbag thing.
  22. Keep in mind there are only 2 weeks left in the season. Minor injuries would result in IR. Turf toe is IR at this point.
  23. I assume you are talking about Indy High School Or maybe DeVry--they got Devrys in Indianapolis?
  24. We were tied with Detroit....but then just put 3 people on IR. So, we win.
  25. I lived in Pittsburgh for about 6 years and I remember that crazy picture of Jack Lambert showing up on tv all of the time. The Steelers built their reputation on this one toothless bloody face. That guy could have literally eaten TE. we need to hunt down a bunch of that guy
