it was a drag NBC has been neutering his show for the last few months (I'm bitter--I miss the insanity of Late Night) but this is total bs. Why bend over backwards to accommodating Leno's giant pile of bland? Leno gambled and lost--time to set that lunkhead out to pasture. I really don't understand that guy's career. How is reading wacky headlines comedy? Or trying to get dumb people to answer basic questions? I mean there's really just nothing there.

If you could go back in time

Well I've been suffering through grad school in the english department for many years, so there's all those articles and books i've read. But to try and defend this a little more, Marx wrote that: "you can analyze and form value judgements on any cultural phenomenon: literature, art, music, political systems, sport, race relation, etc" everything he wrote was meant to be applied to all cultural phenomenon. he writing was the birth of modern cultural criticism. Freud then added to the realm of theory and criticism with his extension of marx's ideas and his concept of the uncontentious. In the political and psychiatric world both marx and freud have been discounted but are still heavy names in the theory world. -

I'd tell Buddy Holly to get off the plane. Or Elvis to stay out of vegas. Or tell Otis Redding to get off the plane. Wait, scratch that. I'd tell MLK to get the hell out of Memphis -

Marx was evil? Thats adorable. Marx was a cultural critic--all he did was sit in a room and write. Literally all he did, he was dependent on Engels since he couldn't/wouldn't hold a job. Lit and film criticism is based entirely on Freud and Marx--both did very important work. The insanity that came out of Cuba, China and the USSR has nothing to do with Marx. Marx didn't write about genocide, he analyzed the prominent social structure. Can't compare him to Hitler or Stalin, that's just crazy talk. -
yeah, but all that happened many years ago. if he was racking up those kind of results now, the argument changes. As it is he would not be a viable long term solution. in order to create the next franchise qb we need to get a good teaching veteran in here in have a college draft to study under. For obvious reasons Vick isn't that kind of leader/teacher that would set up the franchise. unfortunately with the position in question moral issues can not be 100% ruled out. Trent lost his position because he was not viewed as a leader by the team. When drafted a qb not just the numbers have to be looked at. As is Vick has weak numbers, his achievements are 5 years old and he can not necessarily be trusted to be a leader/teacher. Also, keep in mind, this season is the first time the Falcons have ever had back to back winning seasons. Vick didn't put up a lot of Ws either.

it all comes down to he being a genuinely unimpressive qb. beyond the inaccuracy issue; he has barely played in what, 3-4 years? it's telling that Philly brought him in only as a gimmick. look at his stats in ATL. Even in his prime he was rocking a qb rating in the middle 70s. he is also prone to fumbling, something he even did on Saturday's game. Sure he can run around if the pocket folds, but being able to escape into a short run, a fumble or an incompletion? that doesn't really help. here's the rub: he had a name several years ago and he threw that promise away. people want him here because he had a name several years ago. now he's past his prime (threw only six completions this season) and would be brought here as a gimmick. it would be like drafting a midget or a guy with one hand--a circus freak to seel tickets. but he wouldn't win games, he wouldn't be a long term investment and would alienate a chunk of the fans. Everyone plays this as a moral issue, but he just isn't good enough.

Eric Rohmer 4.4.1920 - 1.11.2010
Astrojanitor replied to WellDressed's topic in Off the Wall Archives
Oh man, drag. Rohmer was a genius. Chloe in the Afternoon, in particular, was brilliant. Actually that whole moral fables series (6 films? can't quite remember) are knockouts of the new wave. RIP indeed -
Actually Canada is a hotbed of amazing indie rock these days: Broken Social Scene (and all of their offshoots), Weakerthans, Do Make Say Think, Godspeed! You Black Emperor, Silver Mt Zion, Japandroids, the Sadies, the Dears, New Pornographers, Arcade Fire, Holy !@#$, Constantines, Besnard Lakes.....list goes on. Lots of amazing bands. Toronto and Montreal have some of the best, and most organized, musical scenes going. And that, my friends, is called being a music nerd

If we're lucky maybe we get that lady's $20 back. I can't see a lot of teams being excited at the prospect of a slightly above average RB in constant trouble with the law. Payoff just isn't there. if he starts controlling himself he'll start to be worth something. but i think he is going to be stuck on the Bills for a least another season. if he keeps his nose clean we can pawn him off in 2011.

she has now been punched in the face twice on the show. Classy dame. I am engaged to a woman in the army and she has not even been struck int he face once. I do like knowing living with trash on the Jersey Shore is more violent and dangerous than basic training. On a side note: someone teach Joe Flacco how to throw a football.

Ravens have got to calm down. watch these idiots blow their load in the first quarter. Problem is their offense is not nearly as crazy as their D. it's like watching the jets play. Once you stop allowing the ground game the whole team falls apart
-
why, is someone punching her in the face? Is she trying to seduce a juicehead by swearing repeatedly and passing out?

Over the air TV to be restricted??
Astrojanitor replied to Bufcomments's topic in Off the Wall Archives
the logic is the government wants to control the airwaves while direct lines and satellite is for commercial broadcasts. There's a reason why they want the airwaves, but I don't remember what it is and don't feel like looking it up. but I can say with some certainty that the idea is both insane and will never happen. -
this is almost like watching a Pats game circa 1991. Except with dumber uniforms

I lived in Pittsburgh for about 6 years, here's what I learned: buy a $10 six pack from a bar or figure out how to store a 24 bottle case from the beer store. If you're like me you will figure out how to deal with a 24 bottle case

I would brush my teeth with Molson Canadian if I could. Though I'm still depressed their free one size fits all shirts from the summer actually fit me.............
