  1. Totally agree. There is nothing racial about this issue. Vick made horrible and evil decisions that spoke to only his idiocy and greed. Turning this into a black/white thing cheapens the situation. This was not a cultural accident, this was the behavior of one terrible human being.
  2. I did and loved it. The Sid and Marty Kroft stuff holds a special place in my heart. Despite everything they did being kind of a mess, it does make me feel like a kid. the movie has a totally different purpose and vibe than the original...but entertaining in a stupid "hey this kills 2 hours" kind of way. I'm bad at links, so read this: Leading the pack among this year’s RAZZIE® contenders are one of the year’s biggest money-makers and the year’s biggest money-loser, each with seven nods. RAZZIE® Repeat Offender Michael Bay helped lead the over-loud, over-long, uber-stupid TRANSFORMERS: REVENGE OF THE FALLEN to a huge box office take...and to a huge haul of RAZZIE® nominations as well. In addition to Worst Director and Worst Picture, the film is up for Worst Remake, Rip-Off or Sequel, Worst Screenplay, Worst Supporting Actress (Julie White as the stoned, screaming mother of Shia Le Bouf), Worst Screen Couple (Le Bouf and EITHER Megan Fox OR Any Transformer) and Worst Actress (Fox again, dually nominated for this film and JENNIFER’S BODY). Keeping up with TRANNIES, TOO in the RAZZIE® race (but decidedly not at the box office) is Last Summer’s Biggest B.O. bomb, LAND OF THE LOST, also with 7 shots at taking home spray-painted gold. LOST star Will Ferrell is listed in both Worst Actor and Worst Screen Couple (Ferrell & Any Co-Star, Creature or “Comic Riff”) and the film itself is also nominated for Worst Picture, Worst Director, Worst Screenplay, Worst Remake, Rip-Off or Sequel and Worst Supporting Actor (the screaching Jorma Taccone as the monkeylike Cha-Ka). Rounding out the Worst Picture list are the Disney dud OLD DOGS, the awful “action-figures-come-to-life” 9-Year-Old-Boy-Movie G.I. JOE: THE RISE OF COBRA and the So-Good-It-Was-Held-Back-from-Release-for-2-Years “comedy” ALL ABOUT STEVE (whose star, Worst Actress nominee Sandra Bullock, could pull off the unprecedented feat of “winning” a RAZZIE® one day before winning an Oscar®). Other well-known names shamed as being last year’s worst include 2010 Oscar® co-host Steve Martin (Worst Actor for PINK PANTHER 2), Beyonce (Worst Actress for OBSESSED), Worst Actor of the Decade contenders Eddie Murphy (up for Worst Actor of 2009 in IMAGINE THAT) and John Travolta (Worst Actor of 2009 for OLD DOGS) as well as the twitty Dizz-Knee ’tween idols Miley Cyrus (Worst Actress for HANNAH MONTANA: THE MOVIE) and any two or more of the Jonas Brothers, nominated jointly for Worst Actor and Worst Screen Couple — for their documentary JONAS BROS. A 3-D CONCERT EXPERIENCE. A complete list of nominees is included with this press release.
  3. Really? I went to film school and ended up shooting/writing a couple short films. It didn't really pan out and I'm now finishing my masters in film in order to teach it at the university level. What have you been doing to get the script made? I used to hassle Troma with dozens of trashy horror film scripts to no avail...but unfortunately I can take no for an answer
  4. no IMO needed. They are genuinely insane and filled with rage. It's hard to even figure out what the WBC is on about. We, as a culture, don't hate enough? Is that really a problem?
  5. worse than Detroit, KC or St Louis? I find that both depressing and somewhat hard to believe. Is the only thing worse than playing in Buffalo having Tom cable try to murder you?
  6. you realize there's like 4 Vick threads already going on, right? Like 4 insanely contentious Vick threads
  7. Thank god someone finally agrees with me. I've been yelled at on here for days!
  8. WBC protesters or protesting against the protester protesters? If WBC? You don't necessarily disagree that god kills our troops because Americans don't hate gays and lesbians enough? Cause that's their point. My fiancee is deploying to Afghanistan in June. I can honestly say if the worst happened and those lunatics tried to protest her funeral....let's just say they better dig a hole big enough for that whole congregation.
  9. I think in many ways we are saying the same thing. The Bills are a reflection of the town...which is a blue collar town. There are things that would be laughed at here: playing in a dome, Lynch recording an R&B album, players taking advantage of their good fortune. Which leads to my problem with Vick. Beyond the stats, which I think are pretty unremarkable outside of that one crazy season, he does not fit in with the Bills aesthetic, if you will. And maybe in a punter or DE that does not really matter--but that intangible Bills-ness is crucial in a QB. Kurt Warner, for example, would have been worshiped here because his story and work ethic plays into something we respect. Frankly I do not see Vick as a good fit either as a leader or player. He'd fit in with Oakland or Dallas, but I honestly do not see him fitting into what the Bills currently represent. Bringing him in would result in an identity change a lot of fans have not signed up for--which would backfire (again see popular opinion of Lynch vs Freddie). personally I think the ideal would be picking up Mcnabb for a couple years and draft Lefevour. McNabb still has a lot of tread on the tires and is known to be a mentor. Maybe he chokes in big games, but Buffalo has not played a big game in ten years. I'd prefer a long term answer rather than another dog and pony show.
  10. Wow man, that is some funny stuff. I remember when I lived in Oklahoma these Westboro lunatics tried to set up several protests and were essentially chased out of town. If Oklahoma finds you sexist clearly your views are a bit reactionary.
  11. This years Razzie nominations: http://www.eonline.com/uberblog/b164994_razzie_noms_are_all_about_steve_sandra.html?utm_source=eonline&utm_medium=rssfeeds&utm_campaign=imdb_tv-movies I saw all 5 movies....I'm slightly ashamed to say I enjoyed Land of the Lost. It was moronic, but Danny Mcbride makes pretty much anything golden.
  12. Its not a documentary, it's rags-to-riches narratives under the guise of "reality." Besides, if it was showing the kids how it really is we would have a show about straight off the bus 22 year old girls from Iowa blowing a producer for a walk on role in Two and a Half Men.
  13. I second all of this. I purchased a lenovo over the summer for about $500-600 and it has worked like a dream. I use it primarily for writing, research, dvd watching and complaining about the Bills on the internet--it covers those needs beautifully. I can honestly say that in 10 years of using laptops this is the best I have owned. My finacee bought herself a macbook around the same time for $1000. From playing around with her laptop I can safely claim it is not any more impressive than what I am running, only twice as expensive.
  14. Culturally independent film is not as important as it once was. In like 1992, 93, 94 popular taste started to shift. The glitzy indulgences of the 80s became passe....hence grunge, alternative, hip hop and punk gaining footholds in the mainstream. That trickled down into television and film as well. Obviously that new mentality did not fully take over, but the so-called gen X was giving hit singles to Fugazi and letting tarantino movies gross $100million. I don't think people care that much about independent cinema anymore though. Indie film has become more of a marketing term..."independent film" always involves movie stars and modest budgets. Tiny star-less films do not really stand a chance anymore. The kind of cinema the Weinsteins are interested in advocating is no longer commercially viable.
  15. Last I knew he was looking for $18mil+ a year. I believe we have far greater needs to address than to drop that much coin on Peppers. Spend $18+ on getting Rivers behind center or something? Sure. I'd say the Bills have an entire offense to fix now. Not enough cash to pick up Peppers. it's all a moot point anyway. Dude wouldn't come here and Ralph would never sign off on that size contract
  16. They are not looking for singers, they are looking for pop stars. the purpose of the show is to build commodities. who can be sold to the most people? American Idol has exactly zero interest in signing radiohead. No one is tuning in looking for art. It's naive to think the celebrity judges get to look at anyone but the decent and/or crazy. But that's life. My buddy's band once played a showcase for Relapse Records. The Relapse guys were blown away by the music, but didn't sign them since they didn't look metal enough. Couldn't sell the band as dudes outside of the music they made. And this from an independent metal label out of Philly. Show business is concerned with product, not art.
  17. Oh please. teams have identities, that is why we support them. They dial into something we connect with..otherwise what's the point? Why would anyone in their right mind support a losing team? Not just a losing team, but a team that consistently/constantly loses? it's because something about the Bills speaks to a western New York mentality. Arbitrarily changing that identity would backfire (hence frustration at Lynch). Simply put there's a reason why Dallas has the famous cheerleaders and everyone joked about Vick signing with the Raiders. These teams are an extension of something, otherwise nobody would care. And certainly no one would care enough to post conjecture to a online community. Frankly playing into that identity has everything to do with everything. You think people in this town would respond to some knucklehead babbling about how much money he makes?
  18. Thing is Miramax traded in volume. I started to get seriously interested in film around 1992-3 or so and I can tell you like everything other film I saw had the Miramax tag. Luckily like 1 out of every 10 films was a modest hit. They also had Dimension pumping money into the organization. For every Clerks there were at least 5 Go Fish. Problem now its just the Weinsteins. Their buy everything mentality is backfiring on them. They've also been cursed, no reason why Grindhouse didn't make massive amounts of cash. Fortunately Inglorious Basterds is going to prop them up for another couple years. Read "Down and Dirty Pictures" by Peter Biskind (pretty sure its by Biskind) Really entertaining breakdown of the rise and fall of Miramax
  19. I was watching some kind pre game something on NFL Network today and there was footage of Deion Sanders arriving at a game in a Lamborgini...can you imagine Fred Jackson doing that? Or how about Byrd pulling a Jamarcus Russell and bragging about his Rolls Royce? There are some things we would not accept from our players which is representative of the area they represent.
  20. It's what the players represent. Steelers are the same way. Players know their market, who they represent, and behave accordingly. Does that mean Big Ben had to choose between the mills and the ball field? No, of course not.
  21. I totally agree about both Tebow and Lefevour. Tebow was a wreck. Granted this was the first time I've seen him play....but I do not get the hype.
  22. That's no real surprise. It is, after all, just a television show. Last year I was living in Oklahoma and I remember the Fox evening news being concerned a gay man might be voted American Idol...as if the the show actually votes for the idol of America. It's a goofy stupid show that should not be taken seriously (have you heard an American Idol cds? yikes). But the show is a beautiful trade off if you have a football hating lady. I watch American Idol with her and she watches football with me. Everyone wins and I get to hear a metrosexual British man tell people they suck.
  23. I have a device that holds 10,000 albums and fits in my pocket I have a disc that allows me to watch thousands of movies and tv shows on demand Even though my fiancee is in the army I can get messages to and from her any time of the day I don't know anyone with polio. I say we live in the future. Soon as those jetpacks come in we'll peak as a civilization.
  24. CBS has also reject a godaddy.com commercial that features a gay character. Makes you wonder why the Tebow ad is ok, but admitting gay men exist? Too shocking for football fans. Total discrimination...very sad that even though we live in the future people still function like this
  25. Steelers fans are the most obnoxious, hands down. You actually see Steelers graffiti in Pittsburgh...crazy
