Bright Eyes is the weakest link there for sure, luckily they are last. If you haven't seen Kurt Vile yet you are in for a treat. he is shockingly amazing. Saw him open for Dinosaur Jr last year and he totally held his own. Your store does have some killer shows set up. I got a lot of envy for people in Austin these days. This town is dead for live music. Last night was the last real gig for months. Walkmen and new Pornos are playing Buffalo in a couple months, closest to cool we got. Brief review of the gig last night: Dawes: Reminded me of seeing Jackson Browne. technically very very good, but never really got out of second gear. Middle Brother: Really incredible. They did a cover of Portland by the Mats. Total facemelter. Beautiful songs and some inspired guitar work Deer Tick: I have seen Iggy Pop, Paul Westerberg, Fugazi, DBT, Neil Young and the Ramones. I have seen Little Richard, James Brown, Springsteen, Dylan and Blue Cheer. I have seen the best...Deer Tick is one of the best. One of the most amazing sets of music I have ever seen. Plus covers of racing in the streets and Sam Cooke's Bring it on Home to me? If you like this kind of music, and clearly we all do, Deer Tick is part of that upper echelon of awesome. On the day Gweneth Paltrow signed a $900,000 record deal to make country albums it's nice to know there is still room for drunken scuzzy real country. as a side note, for you singles fellas, that show last night was lousy with gorgeous women. Apparently ladies love Deer Tick....good to know. I haven't seen them since they became well known...now that I think of it maybe 10 years since my last DBT show. Wow, I feel old for saying that. Anyway, DBT doesn't put on a show, they put on a revival.

you are 100% right. Admittedly they are little more than a Dolls cover band..and their comeback albums are unlistenable...but I'd love to see them just to cross it off my wish list. No way I'm dealing with a Poison/Motley Crue gig though.
-
Both. But actually Poison the band is pretty high on the hate list. beyond the obvious reasons, the New York Dolls are opening up for them and Motley Crue this summer. So I can spend a lifetime never seeing the Dolls or have to see Poison for the second time in 25 years. it's a lose-lose.

I'm off to see Deer Tick/Dawes/Middle Brother in about an hour. Getting excited. Even though I had someone compare Middle Brother to me as "a gruffer Mumford & Sons"...which does not bode well seeing as I hate that band like poison. Mumford & Sons: the aural equivalent of a child molester running his finger nails across a blackboard. That's an overreaction.

March Movies: Battle L.A., Sucker Punch, Rango....
Astrojanitor replied to Mark Vader's topic in Off the Wall Archives
I know, right? Sucker Punch looks like the absolute nadir of a very very very weak last 3-4 years for movies. -
I yelled at & hung up on Verizon today
Astrojanitor replied to Albany,n.y.'s topic in Off the Wall Archives
actually in lieu of asking for a supervisor, asking him politely to look up the information you need...or even just hanging up...you chose to personally insult the guy and come on here and brag about your dickishness. so yeah, that's why no one here seems to have your back. -

I'm stuck working a call center job for the time being (thanks economy!) and can assure you a customer lashing out fazes nobody. I'd say every fourth call involves someone freaking out--we usually don't take it seriously. You want results with a call center rep? Be polite and respectful. We never hear it and tend to bend over backwards to accommodate those who treat us like human beings. -
I was a big ALL fan back in the day--especially the Pummel album. Haven't listened to them in well over a decade though. My burning obsession with Drag may make me revisit them one of these days.
-
Huuuuge Lucero fan. Their last album absolutely slays. I always found them to have consistency issues with their albums, but that last one (for the life of me I can't remember the title...1375 Overton Park? Something like that) just nails it. Also a killer live band. The alt-country (man I hate that term---why can't bad country be called alt-country? Far as I'm concerned dreck like Carrie Underwood and Garth Brooks is the alternative to country) band I listen tot he most these days is Drag the River here's them covering the Mats:
-
right? the fact anyone cares about this at all is proof far too many people have far too much time on their hands
-
promoters are touting it as the "heavy metal Coachella"---if that's the vibe they are looking for many more bands needed to be added. Throw Exodus, Metal Church, Testament and Vio-lence in the mix and we have something worth $99 plus figuring out where the hell Indio, CA is
-
if Metallica stays home I'd totally go. But those chumps add $40 to the ticket price and bring at least 20 years worth of terrible terrible music to the table.

I can not have another format to buy Dawn of the Dead on, I just can't

Luck will not declare for the draft. Breaking news...
Astrojanitor replied to dayman's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
great news. Take the temptation off the table so Buddy can focus on finding a real pass rusher or RT. -
True Grit was terrific. Although the Coens could make that movie in their sleep at this point. Very very well done, but didn't feel as alive as their best work. Tron was visually amazing...but every line of dialog was painful. Can say it's the last time I'm every seeing something in 3D. The payoff just isn't there.

Gerry Rafferty gone to Baker Street in the sky
Astrojanitor replied to BuffaloBill's topic in Off the Wall Archives
Foo Figters covered Baker Street awhile back...maybe that's it. Then again that sax solo gets used as a punchline all the time. It's kind of the faux-seductive yakkity sax -
Ryan Fitzpatrick screwed the Bills over
Astrojanitor replied to JPicc2114's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
exactly right! Look at the potential we now see in SJ and Roscoe. We got a guy in there that really showed what does and does not work on this team. Although I really like Fitz, I don't see him as our QB in 3-4 years. But he is plenty good enough while the rest of the team gets put together. Playing rotating QB every couple years has accomplished nothing in the last decade. I'd love to see the #1 go to a dynamic pass rusher. I'm so tired of seeing opposing QBs have like 10 seconds to make a decision. That kills games far more than Fitz. -
Edwards to start for Jags this week!!
Astrojanitor replied to Albany,n.y.'s topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
My prediction: 14/32 156 yds 0TD 1INT and the Jags lose. It's funny because that's his stat line for every game. -
2011 rock & roll hall of fame inductees
Astrojanitor replied to Sammyboy's topic in Off the Wall Archives
It's the Alice Cooper Band that got in, not Alice Cooper solo. The band was one of the best rock and roll bands this country ever produced. His solo stuff tends to run the gamut from bad to awful...but Easy Action alone makes about 97% of all sound irrelevant. -
Best band name I ever heard: John Cougar Concentration Camp. No real point to make...just saying that was a great band name,

+100000 Graduating from Harvard is a huge intellectual accomplishment and he can't even wear it with pride. That economics degree is more impressive than his ability to throw a ball

I'll be eating nothing but lentils in 2011
Astrojanitor replied to SageAgainstTheMachine's topic in Off the Wall Archives
as a vegetarian lentils are a cornerstone of my diet. But if not for massive amounts of seasoning I would lose my mind from the pounds of lentils and chickpeas I put away year after year. Good luck man
