  1. This is good. I wonder what will be in store come free agency.
  2. This a good move. His record with the Jets and Ravens will allow him to bring a hard nosed philosophy to the Bills. It seemed Marrone knew what direction he wanted to take prior to taking the position and is moving quickly towards it.
  3. I have to agree. I know it's early in Marrone's tenure but we learned with Chan that you need experienced coordinators for the NFL not your buddies from the past. Chan brought in friends and ex players as opposed to putting the best people in these positions. I hope we are not continuing the on the job learning process for coaches and coordinators that didn't translate into victories on the college level and probably won't on the pro level. Lets see what product Marrone puts on the field before we judge.
  4. Contrary to the foolish decisions by the front office, the object is to WIN games. Start preparing your excuses for losses now to avoid repitition during the regular season. Please do not grow the mustache and beard. When you talk to football experts like Russ and Buddy, find out the key to winning games without a QB or LB's Don't spend time worrying about making the same mistakes over and over, for example hiring a college coach with prior NFL experience that is heavily endorsed by his ex coach as being an excellent teacher, though he doesn't have a winning record. If your QB scream like a bee-yich after throwing a game winning touchdown, bench him immediately because he will continue to play like a bee-yich. If you ever have a season with a winning record, start looking for another job immediately you will be entering un-chartered territory. And last but not least If you have two players at the same position and one is clearly better than the other. Recommend the lesser player to get a long term deal because we can get more draft picks by offering the better player for a trade. Signing the better player may put us a risk of winning more games and jeopardizing our good seats at the draft.
  5. Many good coordinators out there but would they be willing to work with a recently promoted college coach that doesn't have a winning record in college let alone the pro's? Who was the last winning NFL HC that came from the college ranks with out a winning record? I don't think any former head coach would take a job with an unproven HC commodity unless the money is really large, at least until he has been unemployed for a year.
  6. +1 This guy has Steve Spurrier written all over him. Gimmicky college offenses aren't hard to figure out in the NFL. Plus no NFL experience on any level. Lovie is good if he gets a good OC, like Norv Turner. I would interview Trestman, he may be the surprise of the group.
  7. Good point. I believe this was one of the bounty games. KW has proven he can win with a good QB but hasn't figure out how to be respectable without one. What was Belichick record before Brady? I still don't get a good feeling here. I get a better feeling with Smith or Reid two good coaches that have posted good records, they have worn out their welcome over time. I think they are hungry. I still marvel over the fact that Lovie got the Bears to the SB with Rex Grossman. Being in the DC area and seeing Rex play on a weekly basis made me really respect the job Lovie has done.
  8. I agree. Arizona offensive game plan succeeded in some thing no opposing defenses could do..stopping Larry Fitzgerald. KW actually gave the starting nod to Lienart over Warner to start the season of the SB run. After the the SB they have done nothing since. I know they lost a lot of talent but they have not been very successful rebuilding.
  9. Most good new coaches would try to win immediately as opposed to spending a year assessing the talent that was left to him. These assessments should be made during the first mini camp and preseason, not to mention looking at film from the previous season. Your point is indicative of the problem of Nix and Gailey, they are slow to recognize the problems and even slower toward making the fixes and slow to evaluate talent. They don't have a win now attitude. Which is why we are just beginning to look for a QB now as opposed to 2 years ago.
  10. I have to agree. I am also in the DC market and see all of the games. Most of the fans would love to keep Mike Shanahan but get rid of Kyle. Kyle's play calling is on par with Gailey's. If it wasn't for dad he wouldn't be where he is. I like you would give him average on a good day. There are better choices out there.
  11. I believe it was Bill Parcell that once said you are what your record says you are. We are a 6-10 team period. Whether its coaching or talent, whatever we are a 6 -10 team. We all felt a lump in our throats when Nix announced Gailey was the coach because we knew he was not a ready for prime time player. We went along because we are die hard Bills fans and we were hoping for the best. It's time to end this hillbilly hoe down and get some one that is smart and hungry to win as a GM and coach. With this regime we have different faces on the field giving us worse results than before.
  12. We seem to be playing much better since Mario's surgery and Merriman's return. Last year our defense played much worse when Merriman was injured. Not sure what all he is bringing to the equation here but he is definitely a factor. Dareus and K Williams are playing better together and Carrington is emerging. A LB upgrade, keeping Byrd, and an experienced CB will be key to moving forward. Wannstedt has to be more creative in schemes as well.
  13. - Would love to keep Byrd, Since he has been here he is arguably the best defensive player we have. - I'm missing the point on Poz, is he now a pro bowler? I thought one of the reasons we had such a good offensive day against Jacksonville was due to Poz being on their defense. - Would rather have Mario and Byrd with the money. The jury is still out about Anderson but I think we have played much better with Merrimen in the fold.
  14. Fitz' numbers are consistent with his career numbers. He played like crap the second half of last season and he has remained consistent. The first half of last year was the aberration. Fitz has the potential to be one of the best backups the Bills have ever had but he is no starter. +1 +1
  15. Agreed, on the 3rd and 1 I was screaming pitch it to the weak side. It was open for a yard but we went right down the middle???? I realize we are not use to running out the clock at the end of games. We have become very stale in short yardage/red zone play calling.
  16. Maybe it's me but Fitz seems to have a knack for turning the ball over late in the game to kill our chances. This wasn't Graham's fault at all. It's the QB job to locate the open receiver, period. Throwing into triple coverage is always ill advised. Fitz was locking in on receivers all day if you noticed. In general Fitz can not finish games. When watching the final drive and the Bills were moving the ball, you knew that Fitz was going to turn it over. That's what he does. If this was baseball you could take him out and put your closer in. Fitz is not a closer. It's a shame because these type of games ( Patriots, Titans ) take away from a solid Fitz performance.
  17. You always go for the franchise QB unless your top LB can throw touchdowns. The Bills FO are good at identifying the obvious when it come to QB talent but not good at doing their homework to find that third or fourth round gem. Therefore we should go for the QB in the first. Barkley, Smith and Jones should be worthy here. If we feel we can be creative and jump back into the first round we can look at other options for defensive help. My concern about drafting a LB first which I wouldn't be against is that our lack of defensive coaching in this area will dwarf the exceptional talent upgrade brought in by a draft pick. So the question is what are going to do about our defensive coaching to get the most out of the defensive player additions to the team in the off season. For that matter how many 6-10 seasons does it take for you to realize that you have a 6-10 coach?
  18. Exactly what I was thinking when it was happening. Why not a pitch out or a screen to CJ on second down. The issue is bad play calling. Chan doesn't call plays that set him up for success in these situation. In other words don't tell the world you are going to pass, a play action could work fine. The other issue is that Chan calls plays for the personnel he wishes he had and not for the personnel he has. He must realize Brady or Brees doesn't play on our team.
  19. Polian is a winner that knows how to identify good coaching and a solid starting QB. That is something we haven't had in a while.
  20. Those 7-9 records that Jauron use to put up actually seem like unreachable goals under this regime. The real warning shot was when Fitzpatrick was given a contract in midseason. The coaches must have known he couldn't throw a basic out pattern, and to not draft a QB behind him? Every year we should draft a QB in the first 4 rounds or search the free agent market until we strike gold. We are one of the few franchises that feels we can win without a QB. The result is we don't win. Fitz was refreshing because he has a good QB mentality and attitude, which was something we haven't had in a while. He just doesn't have the tools to pull it off.
  21. The Bills will have to do their homework and make an assessment on an up and coming talent. They never have been good at that. We normally go with someone that has ties to the organization. Losers tend to breed losers and that is what has happened to us. Polian is probably the aberration here. We need new blood that is hungry. Maybe Whaley is the guy. Couldn't be much worse.
  22. Not sure if Vince was that bad but there is a bit of cronyism about the players that Chan keeps. Thigpen and Choice are clear examples of where he has weighted past relationships over talent. Wannstedt is an example of this as well. Vince probably was not the answer but he was the only QB on our squad that has put together a winning season and he was better than Thigpen in the preseason. Don't want to discard the season yet but I get the feeling that it's time for the Gailey / Nix experiment to end.
  23. If Gailey ever seriously thought Fitz was the answer then he should be fired. As much as I hate to say it Dick Jauron can coach circles around Gailey. Gailey is a much better sound bite but that's it. This team is totally unprepared and can not make adjustments and that is due to bad coaching. Nix and Gailey decision making and evaluations are among the worst in the league. It tough watching teams like New Orleans, Tampa Bay, Detroit turn from scrubs to play off teams and Super Bowl champs while we are living off the memories of the early 90's teams.
  24. Then why not cut Thigpen now and VY later in the week since he did look better than TT????
