  1. Fundamentally flawed take..........the bottom of the roster DL for the Bills don't play an "extremely limited" amount of snaps. Darryl Johnson has been the biggest liability in the front 7 on D during his two years of development but he was still needed for 22% of the snaps in 2019 and 21% in 2020. I'd also add that going into a 17 game regular season.........the bottom of the roster guys likely need to be more versatile than in the past.........smart teams will find a way to ration out snaps so that their starters still take the same amount of snaps that they had taken in 16 game seasons........ideally the extra 6% of snaps will all go to reserves. Special teams will continue to be important but there are no touchbacks, fair catches and punts out of bounds on offense and defense...........you can work around shortcomings on special teams.
  2. I was NOT thinking the same thing.😉 But because of all of the people who thought Rousseau was going to be a bust............I do expect to hear a lot more things like "he didn't do that in college". Would that play have moved the needle for fans in the draft process? Reality is that he barely touched the QB.......he never truly disengaged cleanly from the block etc.. But that play is an example of how his style translates.........I certainly would hope he'd have improved his game some after almost 19 months to work on it since his last appearance........but that sack was totally consistent with what got him the big numbers in 2019..........he has a unique way of impacting plays behind the LOS.
  3. The opener is 4 weeks away.........he might suck week 1.........but we should all be surprised if he misses week 1.
  4. Last week he said Dawkins situation was a "lesson for all of us" or something to that extent.........he was definitely the unvaxed.
  5. There is a lot of WR talent on NFL rosters right now..........plenty of Stevenson-level prospects on the fringe........he should make it thru waivers if they cut him late. Even this weeks opponent..........the relatively WR weak Bears.........are probably going to have to cut one or both of recent draft picks Riley Ridley and Dazz Newsome.
  6. Funny how every other LB that steps onto the field in this defense makes plays like that except Edmunds though.
  7. Fromm is Barkley-like in the fact that despite having weaker arms they both have very good touch on deep throws. They really excelled at that in college and saw it from Fromm on 4th down Friday night. But they don't have the easy velocity to make so many of the tight window throws. After seeing Tom Brady improve his arm strength I don't think we can say that a better athlete like Fromm couldn't improve his arm strength but he's limited right now.
  8. That's too simplistic. The Bills depth at reserve LT(Nsekhe) and CB(Norman)........key positions.........was better last summer at this time. Last season the Bills only real depth concern was DT.........which isn't an island/edge position so it's a lot easier to cover up vulnerabilities there. You can't have DE's and OLB running free at the QB........can't have WR's scorching CB's over the top..........hence the concern level. Personally, I'd like to see Ryan Bates start splitting snaps with Spencer Brown at LT in some of these games..............Bates has got to be their best reserve LT option at the moment.
  9. He had some good plays but was inconsistent. Unfortunately, I'd say more down in the run game. He's in a bit of a spot with the McBeane darling Star Lotulelei back.........they really don't need two 1 techs who are useless in pass rush like Star..........they need one who is more versatile, but they gotta' be strong against the run as well. Phillips definitely looked better at getting into the backfield than in run defense Friday night. Been a bit of a mixed message about the 1 techs since the beginning of last season. Last year they rolled with the recuperating Phillips and a bunch of 3 techs/penetrators and didn't even try to address the position with a plugger. They actually sought out even smaller and more active DT's like Zimmer. Now the Polynesian Pylon is back and they are going to dedicate a position to a guy who can't get off the LOS again so what's the philosophy going to be about DT1T2?
  10. This news will not please the all-time Jason Peters hater @PromoTheRobot.............he still thinks the Bills handled that situation well.
  11. Agree on all. Rousseau being Rousseau...........every time he has stepped on a football field since 2019 he has done the same things.......regardless of the level of competition. It's not going to be spectacular looking like Von Miller bending around the corner.........he's going to have issues with OL getting under his pads in the run game and end up on his back some.......but he produces plays that result in TFL's and sacks and, eventually, footballs getting dislodged. The stride and the long arms have been talked about a lot..........but the enormous hands also make a tremendous difference in how that extended arm affects an OT........they aren't easy to get off and provide a lot of surface area to control the shoulder of the OT. Sewell got a taste of that. And with the OT at arms length, the already alert Rousseau gets to keep his eyes on the ball and react and make plays that most DE's will just blindly over-run or not be able to reach back far enough to make. The style is not going to remind people of Bruce Smith but if he stays healthy he's going to put up numbers and make big plays. And if he takes a Josh Allen-level attitude to improving he could transform into more than a stats guy. Also I think you should add the @eball thread worrying about the Lions playing dirty to the loser's list........the Bills came out and murdered the Lions QB's and were clearly the more violent and chippy team with a ton of penalties.........this board would be petitioning the league office for an execution if one of the Lions DL authored that first Obada low hit.
  12. Oh if all signs point to them being an All Pro player.........you definitely can take guys like that early. But that was a running league with a much shorter development curve for OL.........and at the same time, when those guys were selected teams had A LOT more control over players so they could really develop young OL. My favorite example of actually benefitting from that team control would be Ray Brown. Great athlete for his size.......entered the league at 24.........didn't become a full time starter until age 31 and then started almost every game for the next 12 years. Some players need a lot of time to develop and the current CBA doesn't really allow teams to do that. A guy like that is out of the league before age 31 now. In the 2020's, if they are developmental types it makes little sense to take them in round 1 or 2 because the current state of the league suggests that unless they are a proven stud like Penei Sewell they won't be ready to even be a net positive performer until year 3 or maybe not even until their walk year. The Spencer Brown pick was well placed late in round 3 because of his great athleticism and size along with the uncertainty based on his background.........but it also doesn't hurt that he might be a LT as well. IMO he was a better prospect than Cody Ford..........but the Bills had a perceived "need" at RT in a poor OT draft.......so they forced it despite a crying need at a premium $ position with DK Metcalf and AJ Brown still on the board. Fortunately the Diggs trade paid off last year, but it would be nice to have that kind of player on a $2M deal instead of a $14M deal(which is actually bargain right now). I'm all for drafting a top LT prospect in round 1. After that, I like what the Bills did THIS year........which was to draft two raw but talented tackles in 3 and 5 and a nice guard prospect in Anderson late. If you only get a year or two of good, cheap play out of a couple of them, then that's not such a bad return on the relatively modest investment. I'm also a fan of signing guards and centers in UFA if your Jack Anderson's don't pan out. Take advantage of some other team putting in the development time there. The supply is usually good at those spots in UFA and the price is usually right.
  13. Actually, nowadays it would be unusual. For the past decade or so it's like the calendar is pushed forward a month. April is still half-winter........the July heat and dry weather associated with peak summer comes in August.......and summer ends in October now.
  14. Disagree......round 2 is no sure thing RT's...........a lotta' guys that you can squint and tilt your head and envision maybe being adequate year one and good year 2.........if not for some injury or lack of experience on tape etc.. Reality is that not that many OL are ready to be good until year 3 or 4....................better off spending that pick on a more valuable position. Ideally, you draft a guy later and develop him at RT or pay for one in free agency if that fails. Much cheaper to fill lesser positions in UFA than the premium ones.
  15. Glad they hung onto Pereira. 5-5 tonight with 2 HR. Now hitting .355 with 10 HR. Anthony Volpe is having a year that puts him in the conversation of maybe having the best season of any minor leaguer in baseball..........but in his 100+ AB's Pereira is killing it similarly. Also the Yanks brought in a base stealing specialist in the minors and the whole system is running like crazy. Love to see it. Can't stand watching turds like Stanton who can't beat out a 100 hop swinging bunt and are base locked after they hit a 115 mph single.
  16. No such thing as an underrated burger joint..........they all range only from bad to OK.....it's just hamburger......... and it could be either end of the spectrum depending on the day you were there. In N Out is at the high end of OK for fast food from my experience.....but it's a burger.......human version of pet food.......so not hard to over-cook and make flavorless etc.. And like anything fried fresh, fresh cut potatoes need to be done just right to not be offensive to people used to eating the frozen or re-constituted stuff(aka pringles eaters).
  17. Very good player to be changing hands this time of year. New-coaches gonna' new-coach.
  18. Definitely. Maybe people haven't seen them as much during the summer but during fall and winter that was the go-to for a lot of people who go inside and outside a lot. I'm dubious that these things actually do much cooling............I remember in the NBA finals years ago Dwayne Wade was sponsoring the blue cooling towels in relentless tv commercials........and then he and LeBron were overcome with heat exhaustion in the NBA finals and weren't using them. But the price is not exorbitant and if we gotta' wear them in late fall/winter in the stadium I am sure they won't cause hypothermia.

  20. Well, multi-contract RT or guard are/were generally very good players. You don't want to take a Cody Ford just because he looks like he *might* be a RT in a less than stellar draft for OT's. When draftee's disappoint......even if they finish up their first contract on a higher note.........that baggage usually leads them into the unrestricted free agent market. Call it the "Shaq Lawson" effect.😉 They look more attractive to the market than their own team.
  21. And in round 2, an OG or RG better be special. The notion that you can let up and draft for need or lesser valued positions just because it's the second round and not the first is misplaced. Preferably you come out of the top 3 rounds with 3 players at the premium positions(QB/PassRush/LT/CB/WR1). Beane has gotten singed when he has gone to "safer" lesser positions in rounds 2 and 3.
  22. She's a Detroit Lions fan........T Pegs was a Lions fan. 🤔
  23. Agree on Butler. Coming off a 6 sack season in Carolina and on a relatively "prove it", low-guarantee deal for that kinda' production.........he really took one for the team last season. He was signed IMO because they were trying to replicate the success they had with Jordan Phillips as a huge 3 tech to rotate with the smaller Oliver.............but they needed him at 1 tech and after struggling with it for a month or so he did a representative job as a 1 tech for the Bills the rest of the way out. He doesn't have the natural leverage you want from a 1 tech but he was much better at it than Jordan Phillips, who had been a pushover when used at 1 tech in Buffalo.
  24. I'm a Zimmer fan......little higher on him than @GunnerBill......which is probably because I am a bigger fan of big play players on both sides of the ball. But he and Kumerow are entering their age 29 seasons........"prospect" is generally synonymous with "young". If they have breakout seasons it's actually more interesting to me than younger players doing so...........and probably reflects well on the Bills organization for elevating a couple guys who weren't valued at this time last season.
