You see what that milk of amnesia is doing to you? You were the one who dropped your 27 year season tickets because of your frustration with the Pegula's and the McDermott and Beane hires. If you were so sure of Beane you should have got on 877-BB TICKS and talked to your rep....... But nope. You just had some more. Quitters never win..........as you found out during playoff time last year when you couldn't get a ticket.........as you cried those tears of regret into the......."pillow of remorse", was it? As for the article........I was replying to someone else's post and you ignore the context.........where @Logic was applauding the concept of not backloading contracts.........which is the key aspect of the "cash to the cap" philosophy that helped break your spirit as a fan. Beside the New England Patriots.........nobody has been able to avoid backloading contracts well enough to remain a legit SB contender year in and out for the length of a star QB's contract. Beane knows that. Saying he's not going to backload deals is just a form of lip service........talking down to perceived cap-ignorant fans who think that pushing cap debt forward is the root of all cap evil. The reality is that making bad value decisions with your cap dollars is the root of cap woes. Not the timing.........the time is malleable within the parameters of the salary cap. Beane has had his share of those bad value decisions..........basically the entire 2018 free agent class he brought in. But I've also praised him for every first round pick he's had...........praised his professionalism and fit with an organization whose ownership team does not serve as a steadying influence on sports operations...........and have praised a lot of his value free agent adds and re-signings. Beane has gotten A LOT better at his job since 2017. Same with McDermott. They have learned from mistakes and lived up with to their growth mindset mantra so far.

Rousseau vs Sewell. Bills vs Lions Preseason
BADOLBILZ replied to Protocal69's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
That's an interesting one for sure. But Peppers was a much better natural athlete and more conventional as a pass rusher, IMO. GR was a 3 star recruit for a reason, he's not a broadly spectacular athlete. I really thought Peppers was going to be better than Bruce/Reggie when I was watching him dominate at UNC. A conversation for top 10 all-time NFL athlete type. He had it all, except maybe that real killer instinct(in an era where that mattered more), which is why despite being an obvious HOF'er he kinda' underachieved for much of his career IMO. Rousseau isn't that kind of athlete but he really plays LONG. Peppers always struck me as not really getting the max advantage of his height/length. I'd say that about most of the tall comps. Rousseau seems to get the max benefit of his length and that is unique to me. Whether that materializes into him being extraordinary we will see but I do see him as a guy who could maximize his talents statistically because he just has a combination of length, hands and awareness that will lead to a lot of numbers behind the LOS. -

Oh, I've been impressed. He is literally unique, though. I can't recall ever seeing any players with a comparable pass rush style. I'm not saying he's going to be like Aaron Donald or JJ Watt in that regard...........but whatever he becomes it probably wouldn't be wise for teams to waste time trying to find the next one. Even the similar body type comps......Alfred and Mario Williams for example.........had very different styles. -

I was responding to @HappyDays post (quoted AGAIN, above, for you). Clearly, right? So yes, somebody was advocating "a dink and dunk fest". -

Meh on the "take what the D gives" and no and no on the offensive talent takes.......the supporting cast gets ordinary REAL fast when Diggs isn't on the field(and if he has a season long nagging knee injury, that's a problem)...........and the cast he had on the field in the AFCCG was really beat up and not very impactful. The Bills #1 weapon is STILL Josh Allen. Allen has improved a lot as a game manager but he's not mid-career Tom Brady where you expect him to be 35-35 in terms of accuracy and placement on short-to-intermediate throws........he's gonna' miss a few and throw a few flat balls that would have been better with more air under them..........big plays still need to be part of his arsenal to be dominant at this point. Defense's like the Bills are designed to make teams run lot's of plays to get into scoring position............there is a reason that is a strategy..........big plays are important. -

Thanks for sharing but most of the people on this board are WAY out of the age demographic where anyone associated with the NFL cares if those people are buying end zone seats or non-season ticket area upper deck seats. Those are for the young and rambunctious or people who don't mind that crowd. There are very few altercations like that in season ticket holder sections......which are the majority of the seats...........if only because there are ramifications for the ST holder. And of course, the premium seating basically none. -
It makes sense to be heavy on DE's in today's game and moreso if some of them can move inside to rush the passer as well. You could have picked up a Snacks Harrison to be a 1 tech off the street last season and he might come in and play like a good starter...........there will be pluggers on the street or unprotected on practice squads this season as well...........but it's much less likely you will find a pass rusher of ANY value there. Part of roster construction has to be the realization that there are positions where supply exceeds demand and you can afford to run light at those positions because you can stock them with serviceable players on the PS............backup DT's, RB's, safeties and even WR's should be those positions this season........so perhaps the numbers end up lighter there. There is also the possibility that the Bills could cut make an arrangement to cut Mario Addison and put him on the PS. His salary is mostly guaranteed either way.........so maybe he basically stays on the team via the PS and then is there to fill-in for injury and hopefully be fresh for late season or playoff use. Meanwhile a Bam Johnson could be active every week so they have that impact on ST as well as to eat up some snaps at DE.
-
Fundamentally flawed take..........the bottom of the roster DL for the Bills don't play an "extremely limited" amount of snaps. Darryl Johnson has been the biggest liability in the front 7 on D during his two years of development but he was still needed for 22% of the snaps in 2019 and 21% in 2020. I'd also add that going into a 17 game regular season.........the bottom of the roster guys likely need to be more versatile than in the past.........smart teams will find a way to ration out snaps so that their starters still take the same amount of snaps that they had taken in 16 game seasons........ideally the extra 6% of snaps will all go to reserves. Special teams will continue to be important but there are no touchbacks, fair catches and punts out of bounds on offense and defense...........you can work around shortcomings on special teams.

Rousseau vs Sewell. Bills vs Lions Preseason
BADOLBILZ replied to Protocal69's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I was NOT thinking the same thing.😉 But because of all of the people who thought Rousseau was going to be a bust............I do expect to hear a lot more things like "he didn't do that in college". Would that play have moved the needle for fans in the draft process? Reality is that he barely touched the QB.......he never truly disengaged cleanly from the block etc.. But that play is an example of how his style translates.........I certainly would hope he'd have improved his game some after almost 19 months to work on it since his last appearance........but that sack was totally consistent with what got him the big numbers in 2019..........he has a unique way of impacting plays behind the LOS. -
Last week he said Dawkins situation was a "lesson for all of us" or something to that extent.........he was definitely the unvaxed.

Overreaction Saturday…whatcha got after BUF/DET?
BADOLBILZ replied to eball's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
There is a lot of WR talent on NFL rosters right now..........plenty of Stevenson-level prospects on the fringe........he should make it thru waivers if they cut him late. Even this weeks opponent..........the relatively WR weak Bears.........are probably going to have to cut one or both of recent draft picks Riley Ridley and Dazz Newsome. -

Funny how every other LB that steps onto the field in this defense makes plays like that except Edmunds though. -
Good Night / Bad Night - Pre-season game 1

Fromm is Barkley-like in the fact that despite having weaker arms they both have very good touch on deep throws. They really excelled at that in college and saw it from Fromm on 4th down Friday night. But they don't have the easy velocity to make so many of the tight window throws. After seeing Tom Brady improve his arm strength I don't think we can say that a better athlete like Fromm couldn't improve his arm strength but he's limited right now. -

That's too simplistic. The Bills depth at reserve LT(Nsekhe) and CB(Norman)........key positions.........was better last summer at this time. Last season the Bills only real depth concern was DT.........which isn't an island/edge position so it's a lot easier to cover up vulnerabilities there. You can't have DE's and OLB running free at the QB........can't have WR's scorching CB's over the top..........hence the concern level. Personally, I'd like to see Ryan Bates start splitting snaps with Spencer Brown at LT in some of these games..............Bates has got to be their best reserve LT option at the moment. -

He had some good plays but was inconsistent. Unfortunately, I'd say more down in the run game. He's in a bit of a spot with the McBeane darling Star Lotulelei back.........they really don't need two 1 techs who are useless in pass rush like Star..........they need one who is more versatile, but they gotta' be strong against the run as well. Phillips definitely looked better at getting into the backfield than in run defense Friday night. Been a bit of a mixed message about the 1 techs since the beginning of last season. Last year they rolled with the recuperating Phillips and a bunch of 3 techs/penetrators and didn't even try to address the position with a plugger. They actually sought out even smaller and more active DT's like Zimmer. Now the Polynesian Pylon is back and they are going to dedicate a position to a guy who can't get off the LOS again so what's the philosophy going to be about DT1T2? -

Agree on all. Rousseau being Rousseau...........every time he has stepped on a football field since 2019 he has done the same things.......regardless of the level of competition. It's not going to be spectacular looking like Von Miller bending around the corner.........he's going to have issues with OL getting under his pads in the run game and end up on his back some.......but he produces plays that result in TFL's and sacks and, eventually, footballs getting dislodged. The stride and the long arms have been talked about a lot..........but the enormous hands also make a tremendous difference in how that extended arm affects an OT........they aren't easy to get off and provide a lot of surface area to control the shoulder of the OT. Sewell got a taste of that. And with the OT at arms length, the already alert Rousseau gets to keep his eyes on the ball and react and make plays that most DE's will just blindly over-run or not be able to reach back far enough to make. The style is not going to remind people of Bruce Smith but if he stays healthy he's going to put up numbers and make big plays. And if he takes a Josh Allen-level attitude to improving he could transform into more than a stats guy. Also I think you should add the @eball thread worrying about the Lions playing dirty to the loser's list........the Bills came out and murdered the Lions QB's and were clearly the more violent and chippy team with a ton of penalties.........this board would be petitioning the league office for an execution if one of the Lions DL authored that first Obada low hit. -
Oh if all signs point to them being an All Pro player.........you definitely can take guys like that early. But that was a running league with a much shorter development curve for OL.........and at the same time, when those guys were selected teams had A LOT more control over players so they could really develop young OL. My favorite example of actually benefitting from that team control would be Ray Brown. Great athlete for his size.......entered the league at 24.........didn't become a full time starter until age 31 and then started almost every game for the next 12 years. Some players need a lot of time to develop and the current CBA doesn't really allow teams to do that. A guy like that is out of the league before age 31 now. In the 2020's, if they are developmental types it makes little sense to take them in round 1 or 2 because the current state of the league suggests that unless they are a proven stud like Penei Sewell they won't be ready to even be a net positive performer until year 3 or maybe not even until their walk year. The Spencer Brown pick was well placed late in round 3 because of his great athleticism and size along with the uncertainty based on his background.........but it also doesn't hurt that he might be a LT as well. IMO he was a better prospect than Cody Ford..........but the Bills had a perceived "need" at RT in a poor OT draft.......so they forced it despite a crying need at a premium $ position with DK Metcalf and AJ Brown still on the board. Fortunately the Diggs trade paid off last year, but it would be nice to have that kind of player on a $2M deal instead of a $14M deal(which is actually bargain right now). I'm all for drafting a top LT prospect in round 1. After that, I like what the Bills did THIS year........which was to draft two raw but talented tackles in 3 and 5 and a nice guard prospect in Anderson late. If you only get a year or two of good, cheap play out of a couple of them, then that's not such a bad return on the relatively modest investment. I'm also a fan of signing guards and centers in UFA if your Jack Anderson's don't pan out. Take advantage of some other team putting in the development time there. The supply is usually good at those spots in UFA and the price is usually right.

Actually, nowadays it would be unusual. For the past decade or so it's like the calendar is pushed forward a month. April is still half-winter........the July heat and dry weather associated with peak summer comes in August.......and summer ends in October now.
