this. I think the best way to approach the '13 draft is to take a QB in the 2nd or 3rd round and plan on starting him. Best case scenario the rook is good and he takes the team to the playoffs. If not, the team should be completely open to drafting one of the elite guys in '14. Essentially Im willing to burn a 2nd/3rd round pick on a one year tryout for one of these QB's. The worst thing the Bills could do is commit to one of these guys long term...we'll just be back here again 5 years from now.

Makes you wonder if theyre thinking about moving Cordy Glenn to G if one of the top tackles falls to them...or drafting Warmack. EIther way I dont see why this is anything to freak out about. Guard is one of the easiest positions to replace in the entire NFL.

For what its worth: Written in 2012: After having played outside in San Francisco’s 3-4, it was interesting watching Lawson adjust to playing in a four-man front. He surpassed almost all expectations and, if anything, looked more suited to the Bengals’ scheme. While Lawson may only be a two-down player (he graded negatively in coverage) he does have some versatility in that he can play with his hand on the ground if needed. He hasn’t quite had the success of Kamerion Wimbley in Oakland but he is a solid role player who should continue to improvement Written in 2013: The good: Lawson is a solid run defender who can play in the 4-3 or 3-4 defense. He is a sure tackler, missing just three all of last season. Lawson played in every game in his two seasons in Cincinnati, although there were some games in which he played less than half the snaps. The bad: There were expectations that Lawson would boost the pass rush, but he managed 3.5 sacks in his two years with the Bengals. He also looked rigid in pass coverage, which is why he only broke up one pass last season. The bottom line: The Bengals have enough cap room to upgrade from Lawson. He is only 28 and a former first-round pick, so he should catch on with another team. According to Pro Football Focus, out of 43 eligible linebackers, Lawson ranked 37th in total snaps (363). That averages out at just 23 snaps per game in a 16-game season. His -4.9 grade was also ranked 29th. Lawson simply isn’t a fit in Mike Zimmer’s defensive scheme, and likely won’t be offered a contract to return to Cincinnati when free agency begins.

Marshall Yanda, Ravens – $6,500,000 I think a lot of posters are failing to realize the grand scheme of things here. If the Bills signed Levitre they would be parlaying his deal and cap hit, along with Fitzpatricks 7 million dollar cap hit into next season. The NFL has a salary cap in place for a reason, you cant keep every good player on your team indefinitely. I would much rather say goodbye to Levitre now then have to say goodbye to Eric Wood next year or CJ Spiller the following year. If you are really upset about losing Levitre but were very pro signing Mario Williams, then this is what happens. You cant be a buyer every year.

If I'm tampas GM listening to Nix on the phone Im thinking Nix is not one of the smarter guys in the group of 31 I have to work with and compete against. Thats as simple as I can put it while leaving my emotions about his dealings with Fitz out of it.

I have no problem with the "off the cuff" remarks made by Nix. What I have a problem with is him bitching about the unfairness of not having a franchise QB like the Colts. Then he goes on complaining about how hes handcuffed by Fitz, when he was the one who labeled him as our franchise QB in the first place and also the GM who refused to draft and develop a guy behind him should he fail. Idk how some of you guys arent angered by this?!?!?! This man went on WGR weekly all season long and adamently defended Fitz as "his guy", and referred to him as our "franchise QB", and that fitz "has been successful before and will be successful again" Im happy he doesnt like Fitz now but honestly...he should have been fired for it.

I'm going off what I listened to. The last thing our GM should be doing is bitching about our QB and how hes handcuffing the franchise when just two years ago you loved the guy, believed in him, and signed him to a ridiculous unwarranted contract extension. Nix created the entire situation hes complaining about, he sounds like a buffoon complaining about it.

Couple of thoughts: -Buddy sounds slightly inept in this phone call... it almost sounds like he thinks its unfair that teams like the colts get Luck and hes stuck with Fitz. -Nix publicly defended Fitz multiple times throughout the last 2 years and he gave him the ridiculous extension, depsite his physical limitiations. To complain about Fitz to another GM, when you are THE REASON why you are in the situation in the first place, makes you sound really inept. -I feel worse about the running of our franchise now then at any point in the last 5-10 years. -I know Buddy got pranked but the comments he made to tampa GM showed weakness. If you listen carefully Tamps GM doesnt say much, he just listens to Nix. When youre a GM you need to puff your chest and flex your muscles and act like your team knows what youre doing, even if if you dont. -If I were owner, this would be a fireable offense.

Good OP and definitely something I have considered before. Obviously, NFL head coaches are stubborn mules when it comes to change so I think this is the biggest hurdle that would have to be overcome, someone innovative would have to make the first step, be successful,, then everyone would follow. Strategically speaking I think their are many advantages to running a system using two different QB's with different skills sets. Imagine having two running QBs and a RB lined up in a wildcat and all 3 players are capable of running/throwing/catching... a team who could run plays effectively with guys like that would be unstoppable. The only downsides I envision are A. Not having a "leader" of the team B. Not having "the guy" to rally the team and lead the offense when the game is on the line C. Obviously the 2 QB's Egos would have to be checked at the door, they would both sacrifice fame and fortune for team success....a concept that is rare in todays NFL.

McKelvin has the physical specs to be a great CB in this league but it has been the "football awareness" part of the game that has hindered his play on the field. We all know Mckelvin can run step for step with any WR in the nfl, the problem is that everytime a pass is completed on him he is in position but fails to turn his hips around and locate the ball to swat it away, Mckelvin is also one of those guys that plays better when his confidence is high, it has been pretty trying for him over the past two years because he has been benched a couple times for poor play and you know that has hurt his confidence, which is critical for a DB. Pettine is supposedly a guru with DBs and look what he did with Antonio Cromartie this year, he took a guy with immense physical talent and poor football IQ and turned him into a stud. McKelvin has all the ability in the world to live up to this 4 year 20 million dollar deal and hopefully the bills are rewarded for their faith. Throw in the bonus return ability and now we have one less hole to address in FA and in the draft and I think its a win win for both sides

the FA crop this year might be the best we've seen in years. After looking at all the CBs that are hitting the market, it looks like McKelvin may actually have a realistic chance of resigning with Buffalo.

I didnt say he was better. Both QBs played incredibly well and the game came down to the final seconds. OP is stating the obvious that pocket passers are the only ones who win SBs which historically has been true. However, the game yesterday came down to the final moments because Kaep led an incredible comeback...eventually a runner is going to win this thing and all this nonsense will be thrown out the window. Kaep is the real deal. He may have the best arm out of any QB in the NFL and I literally have no idea how any defense in the NFL is going to be able to stop the 49ers over the next 5 years as he only gets better and better and they maintain their dominate O line.

I understand the whole "scrambling QB's" havent won a superbowl argument you are making, but there is no way you can tell me that Flacco outplayed Kaepernick in that game. Also the scramblers in the league now (Kap, Wilson, RGIII) are on a whole different level than Vick ever was. They can all sit in the pocket and make laser throws if they need to. I think that the tide of the league is shifting towards having a QB who can run, that isnt to say that true pocket passers are going anywhere because the elite decision makers like Manning, Brady, Rodgers, Brees dont need to run to be effective. Lastly, Warren Moon was never a scrambling QB I think you meant Randall Cunningham

Aeneas Williams was one of the best cornerbacks of the last 20 years...its too bad he played for for the Cardinals and wasnt the hype machine like Deion Sanders was.

Carter is deserving....maybe not more than Reed but he is worthy. Sapp is a POS fraud who played on some great defenses but I dont think he is a first ballot HOF. Its a disgrace that Reed isnt in yet, everyone knows hes going to get in one day...why they decide to get his hopes up and then crush them year after year is beyond me... I like the renovations. For the 130 million dollars theyre spending it looks like theyre getting a lot. I wish they could widen the concourses but the rest of these improvements should make up for it, I for one am ecstatic that the bathrooms will finally not be shitholes anymore.

Im not a salary cap expert but I just dont see how the bills can afford to keep Byrd, Levitre, and Wood without putting themselves in cap trouble a couple years down the road. I believe Byrd is a core-blue chip player on this team and we absolutely cannot afford to lose a playmaker like him. I think Levitre is great but G's in the NFL are replaceable and if it means losing Levitre so we can resign a player like Spiller or Gilmore 3/4 years down the line I chose that option.
