Somebody tell Fitz he didn't get the memo...
CodeMonkey replied to eball's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
If those calls had worked, then instead of "inopportune situations" we would be reading how Gaileys megamind offense is so great because it keeps defenses guessing. -
I was very impressed with Choice at the end of last season when he got some touches. I actually thought he looked better than Spiller at the time, went north instead of east/west (and was scolded mercilessly here for even thinking such blasphemy ). How nice would it be to have a solid #3 RB that didn't make you cringe whenever he got the ball? I couldn't agree more about camp at SJF. A class act from top to bottom.

Not from what I've seen at camp so far. -
I couldn't go last night but my family did. My 11 year old daughter disagreed with your Mario statement based on a text I got from her towards the end of practice ... "Mario is rockin out on defense!" It is amazing the impact a simple thing like signing autographs can have on the younger fans. My kids came back all smiles after getting several last night. And look at that list, these aren't practice squad camp fodder guys. It's a great thing to see.

Assuming you buy into the theory that the Bills offense is so complex that it takes a megamind to understand and execute it (which I do not, but just for the sake of discussion), the reason to dumb it down is very simple. Football players, with very few exceptions (Fitz being one), are physically gifted, but dumb. If Fitz is the only player on the team capable of grasping the scheme, the Bills are doomed. It's not just the QB that has to understand the system, the entire offense does. Add to that the possibility that Fitz could be injured for a couple games and the Bills would be lucky to get 5 wins (hey wait, how many wins did they average per season so far with Gailey in charge ??? ). -

Hmmmm. Not so sure about that. I have seen several posts here that had a "playoffs or bust" feel to them. I guess you could apply the "with a brain" caveat in your statement though I personally would be happy with 10 wins this season. Playoffs or not. I still think there is a fair amount of work to do on the offense next off season. The season after this is when I will be looking for heads to roll if the Bills do not get into the playoffs, and if they don't play pretty late into January. Man there are some people on here who saw a lot more in Spiller last season than I did. I hope you are right -
Bills Fitzpatrick has earned trust, respect of teammates
CodeMonkey replied to GoBills!'s topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I always get a kick out of articles like this and people reading so much into them. Almost certainly Fitz is the man this season. I can't imagine anyone thinking otherwise. So do you really expect Wood, Gailey, or anyone else on the team to say "Fitz sucks balls, but unfortunately we have to make due with him for the time being"? Of course you hear "he can win championships" and "wouldn't trade him for anyone". WTF else would you expect them to say to the press? -

Megamind offense, really? Nothing more cerebral about it than any other offensive scheme. Fitz being a smart person doesn't automatically make Gaileys 5 wide thing a "megamind" offense. From that article: Wow, Young who is coming into a new system cold isn't as comfortable with it than the guy who has been around it and been starting the vast majority of the time Gailey has been in Buffalo. That's quite a shocker. Please September, get here quickly!!!! -
Ahhhh well played Mr. Brandon ... well played

As long as he does not display that shirt after scoring his first regular season TD it's all good

To the OP ... optimism in any form is enjoyed here. Even if it is only speculative and unbounded. Most here, probably you as well, feel the Bills had a good off season on paper. That alone is reason enough for unbridled optimism and assumptions of playoffs etc here. Perceived pessimism in any form, including but not limited to trying to ground the optimism in any way, is generally met defensively. That's just the way it is. Until the season starts and we can really see what the Bills have got this season, there is only how they look on paper and how they look running half speed drills at camp. Bills fans have suffered though 12 horrific seasons in a row. Certainly there is no harm in a little giddy love fest waiting for Sept. to roll around -
Easley and WR's have a big night practice
CodeMonkey replied to Alphadawg7's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
You cover it like teams did the last half of last season ... DB's crowd the line and take away everything short to force the Bills to beat them at a mid to long distance. They could not last season. We will see if Lee working with Fitz can improve his accuracy enough where that defensive scheme is no longer an option. -

Anyone want a ticket for Wednesdays practice?
CodeMonkey replied to mrags's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Stop at one of the offsite parking lots that they run shuttle buses from. My wife was going to give away our two extras that way Wednesday, but they have been claimed by someone already. -
I now have 2 extra, I sent you a PM.

My Observations from practice 7/28
CodeMonkey replied to 5 Wide's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I agree with you about VY. Seemed to have an order of magnitude better skills than Thigpen to me. And so far anyway is by far the most athletic of the guys in the red pinnies. I was disappointed to see Merriman watching practice. I didn't hear of his ankle issue beforehand. He did show up at the kids autograph tent after practice so I take that as a good sign that maybe it isn't all that serious. On Friday they had the offense and defense split on two fields (my kids were there ). I was glad to see them all in one place Saturday. -
Sweetest words I've heard out of Training Camp
CodeMonkey replied to Hapless Bills Fan's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Gailey is obviously more astute than I am but I can't tell if anyone dominated from only half speed drills. Merriman showed up at the kids autograph tent the entire time according to my kids so the ankle can't be too bad. -
PRESSURE to win in 2012
CodeMonkey replied to You herd it hear last's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Only 2 ways I see Gailey getting fired after this season. 1) Abysmal record (5 wins or less). Though Chan could receive a stay of execution even in this case with the tried and true Bills excuses of injuries, bad breaks, and refs hating the Bills. 2) Mediocre record (6-8 wins) with clear evidence that coaching mistakes were to blame for several losses. Otherwise I can't imagine Mr. Wilson not staying the course. -

No. I'm sure he is waiting for the only meaningful drill at camp for that ... the one where the QB's try to throw the ball into garbage cans from about 10 yards away -

All 3 Rochester places were out of tickets last night. Verizon guy was saying he never saw tickets go so fast before. Must be a lot of people who cannot make the day practices that want to see the shiny new D ! -

Can Fitzpatrick be an upper echelon QB?
CodeMonkey replied to Billsrhody's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Flacco is probably one of those guys that some will think of him as elite and some not. The only thing elite about Sanchise to date is his paycheck. -

Can Fitzpatrick be an upper echelon QB?
CodeMonkey replied to Billsrhody's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I wouldn't necessarily blitz constantly under that situation either, and here is why. A constant blitz strategy is high risk/reward. It can hang defensive backs out to dry, particularly when done too often. And in that high risk situation if you get burned, you tend to get burned big. Blitzing often can shut down a rookie QB, but it can just as easily lead to multiple quick touchdowns as well. A 14 point lead in the 2nd half and I might be inclined to make sure I don't give up and long quick scores as well.
