My opinion is he opted out because: 1) No QB. I'm pretty sure we now know his opinion of EJ Manuel. Orton leaving only made things that much worse. 2) No first round pick to use to get a QB (trade or draft). 3) Need of a every down RB (Fred is just getting too old). 4) Need of multiple OL pieces. 5) Realized he was very lucky to get this team to 9-7 so he can leave now as the coach who got the Bills over .500 for the first time in 10 years. 6) Very favorable opt-out financial conditions. 7) Issues with Whaley were apparently real. He is at his most marketable now. The Bills have significant issues to overcome and are likely not to break .500 next season (in his opinion anyway). This coupled with the favorable opt-out conditions and possible interest expressed by other teams makes his decision logical in my opinion.

And there is nothing wrong with that. Some people are more results oriented and others try to put the results into a context. Neither is right or wrong really, just different.

Ahhhh more of that huh. The Sabres seem to be pretty talented already regarding youth in the system, what they lack is current talent. One more year of stocking the pond with youth while suffering with the current team, then what 3 more years before the youth starts paying dividends? I'm not getting any younger

I guess maybe its just me, but I fail to see what impact the Bills staying and Toronto issues would have on signing players or coaches. What difference does it make really where they spend 6 months of their year. Plus is the city of Buffalo a big draw versus a larger market to 20-something millionaire players? Overpaying for players is a negative in these salary cap days. I would hope Mr. Pegula would have learned that from the Sabres with Vanek and others. Coaches and assistants are a different matter. Interesting theory about Chip Kelly. He could have molded the offense to his liking and inherit a good defense, that should have appealed to him under Mr. Wilson or Mr. Pegula. I suspect the tipping point was more based on the QB situation. Basically Philly having at least a decent one and the Bills not, that drove his decision more so than ownership, what either team was willing to pay (which almost had to have been comparable), what city the team was playing in or if that locale would change. As others have pointed out, if you are in desperate need of a starting QB now, you are in deep ****. But we will never know I suppose.

Makes me flash back to that ridiculous PR signing of Pat LaFontaine as director of hockey operations for the sabres. Only to have him quit seemingly the next day. That was under Pegula ownership as well.

You could limit the number of posts users can make to one per minute or 5 minutes even.

Don't know much about the hardware stuff, but unless the site in DC boasts much higher bandwidth I doubt moving the server there would have much of an impact. This is just text, we aren't downloading 4 gb DVD images or anything.

I didn't misunderstand. I am very familiar with how Pegula has run the Sabres so far. There obviously will be salary constraints, perhaps less restrictive than under previous ownership but Pegula almost certainly will not overspend. There is no reason to believe having this new owner, who undoubtedly will keep the team in Buffalo, is going to help resigning players or luring top players to Buffalo. The NFL is a business first, to players and owners alike. One 9-7 record in 15 years, albeit a good first baby step, is not the superbowl or close to it. Facilities and travel, really? And last but not least, downplaying the QB issue is ludicrous. It is a HUGE glaring problem, now more prominent with Ortons retirement and no first round pick in the upcoming draft to either use or barter with. Well, the cupboard is far from bare I suppose due to defense, special teams, and Watkins, so that statement is true as well. But I find the majority of that post to make no sense at least to me. Now if Manuel suddenly becomes a NFL QB, then the cupboard is not only not bare, but it becomes pretty damn full. But Manuel is far from there at the moment, IMO.

What?? The only thing that makes any sense here is the bolded.

Kyle Orton. "Hey Kyle, I know you want to spend time with your kids and all, but how about 7 mil for one more season guaranteed? I'm sure we can find some ex-Jills who could use a paycheck babysitting your kids for the season." If Manuel somehow magically becomes at least serviceable, Orton becomes the vet backup/mentor. If Manuel continues to suck, Orton plays out the season while the Bills figure out what to do, plus at least they have a first round pick in 2016.

I agree with many that at this point the Bills may not have much of a choice other than Manuel, whether they like it or not. Maybe they could throw some money at Orton and talk him off of the couch again. But that's just putting a band-aid on the problem.
