Mehta: Fickle Falcons led Rex Ryan to take Bills job
CodeMonkey replied to YoloinOhio's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
My favorite line ... "Does anyone really believe he'll take the job? He'll go to CBS before he goes to Buffalo." My second favorite line ... "Man, F'ck Rex. He didn't want to come here. All he wanted to do was stay in his comfort zone. He didn't want to leave the AFC North." Man does that thread remind me of here. Some posters pissing all over the falcons front office and other posts like "Some of you hating on AB don't even deserve to have a team to root for." -
"The Process" (time to change the rule)
CodeMonkey replied to Cugalabanza's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Its also the smart answer. The NFL rules have passed the point of being even ridiculous, and are about 90% of the reason for the inconsistency and complaints. -
Mehta: Fickle Falcons led Rex Ryan to take Bills job

In my opinion, Rex was a better fit in Atl due to the fact that the defense is the bigger mess there. I suspect that's also why Atl fans are disappointed. -
Mehta: Fickle Falcons led Rex Ryan to take Bills job
CodeMonkey replied to YoloinOhio's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Agreed. But they also did not wait until the SB was over (or apparently even this weekends games) when the other coordinators were available either. Like I said, If Whaley is 100% on board that this is the correct football move and not just a PR one then there was no need to wait. I also understand that we will never know one way or the other. I am no expert, but I am lukewarm on the hire myself. But at least I'm not scratching my head saying "WTF?" like I was after the Gailey hire -
Mehta: Fickle Falcons led Rex Ryan to take Bills job
CodeMonkey replied to YoloinOhio's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Bottom line, Pegula, Whaley, and Brandon got the guy they wanted. For better or for worse remains to be seen, but Rex is VERY familiar with the AFCE on day 1. Other teams are waiting for the end of the season to go after some of the better assistants for their HC I'm sure, and the Bills used that to their advantage to get Rex. I'm puzzled by the Bills going with a defensive minded HC given the current state of the team and the fact that they have a strong DC already in Schwartz, but I defer to the experience of the Bills FO and assume they know what they are doing. My one hope is that this is not a knee jerk reaction forced by Pegula to get a big name fast and that Whaley at the very least truly thinks hiring Rex is the right football move. -
EJ is no Kaep. At least not now. But I get your point.

NEW HEAD COACH: Rex Ryan! It's Official!
CodeMonkey replied to K D's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Why would you hire a defensive minded HC then tell him that? -
How is this guy with training QBs is the biggest question IMO. Whoever the OC is, that's more than likely going to define how far the Bills go for the next few seasons. It's a pretty sure bet Rex won't be doing that.

5 year $5.5mil per deal according to ESPN. http://espn.go.com/nfl/story/_/id/12149930/buffalo-bills-hire-rex-ryan-next-head-coach -
So,how did the interview with Rex Ryan go ?
CodeMonkey replied to HOUSE's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Could be she wore those sandals specifically as an incentive for Rex to take the job! they really can't say unless someone says something to them. Which obviously didn't happen. -
Head Coach candidate: Hue Jackson

He supports everything the Bills don't do. So if they hire the guy Sully wants, he will immediately do a 180 on it. -
Marrone a possible candidate for Bears?
CodeMonkey replied to YoloinOhio's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Yeah but he quit. You know the rules. Now everything bad with the team was his fault. Easy to see with all the threads devoted to him, and all the ones hijacked talking about it as well. -
What if our new coach is worse than Marrone?
CodeMonkey replied to OCinBuffalo's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Didn't see one. But there is an interesting coaching change article there written on Black Monday. http://fivethirtyeight.com/datalab/theres-not-much-evidence-a-new-coach-will-help-the-jets-49ers-or-falcons/ -
What if our new coach is worse than Marrone?
CodeMonkey replied to OCinBuffalo's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I agree completely. He expected to have to use Manuel which in his mind meant below .500 barring a miracle, and tried to get the contract extension now. No matter who the new HC is, it is very possible for the team to have a worse record next season unless, as you said, somehow the QB situation improves. -

Because it was phrased that Rex will hold court, yes. -
Head Coach candidate: Rex Ryan

Can't say I'd blame him for going the TV route. For a football freak, like any NFL coach would be, a job like Cowher has would have to be a wet dream. Follow football in depth all week at your leisure, then show up on weekends to watch football all day with other football freaks and talk about it on TV that other football freaks are watching. Plus if that isn't enough, get paid what I have to believe is a buttload of money to do it. Rex has the knowledge, the reputation, and the personality to be very good at that. -
Head Coach candidate: Rex Ryan
CodeMonkey replied to YoloinOhio's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
That's actually a huge negative at this point in time. No QB and no first rounder. In my opinion you overestimate the desirability of a team that just topped .500 for the first time in a decade and hasn't been in the playoffs for 15 years. Ryan has other options (and will probably end up in Atlanta anyway). The Bills need a solid HC and the pickings are rather slim at the moment. For "big name" coaches it is almost always a sellers market, IMO. -

Disagree. The Bills need to sell themselves to any experienced HC. Someone looking for a promotion from assistant would have to sell themselves to the Bills. -
Tim Graham's interview on Buffalo Rumblings
CodeMonkey replied to Jerry Jabber's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Someone with a grand total of less than 1 year in football picking a head coach for a NFL team. Yes it's a nightmare. If it were any other team you would be making fun of the team and it's owner. If Whaley is picking the HC and Pegula is along for the ride to learn and be involved, then no worries. But that's not how TGs statement sounds. And I still hope the statement is rubbish, or at best only partially true (which it almost has to be, assuming Pegula is not Jerrah #2). -

Dear god I hope he is just making it up. Pegula picking a HC is a disaster waiting to happen. -
Bills GM wants next coach to revive EJ Manuel
CodeMonkey replied to Joaquin1119's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
It would appear that Whaley has put all his eggs in the Manuel basket for next season at the very least. He has no choice but to want that it would seem. -
Perry Fewell fired (Giants Def Coord)
CodeMonkey replied to Stevie Ray's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
This is considered a lateral move by the NFL. The NFL seems to consider there being only 2 positions, HC and everyone else. "An NFL team cannot interview an assistant coach who is under contract as an assistant with another team for the following season without the permission of his current organization. Teams will usually give permission upon request, particularly if a lower level coach is set to take an offensive or defensive coordinator position elsewhere, but the current team is not required to give permission." -

Nice post Mr. Whaley Amazing to see how quickly #2 is assumed to be fact now by so many. -
Bills GM wants next coach to revive EJ Manuel
CodeMonkey replied to Joaquin1119's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
That's an interesting point. I have wondered if it is best for a GM to get players that fit his vision and hire a HC that shares that vision, or for a GM to hire a great HC and work with that HC to acquire players that fit the HCs vision. I have always considered the latter to be best, but it could be the former I guess.
