Game week thread - Bills at Panthers (Game week preview on pg. 18)
947 replied to BillsFan619's topic in The Stadium Wall
8 weeks ago, this Carolina match-up was the easiest game on our schedule. Now I'm legitimately worried. -
Bills identity: Josh Allen & The Bend but also Break Defense
-
I'm sure they're content to just lose all or most of their games & get a top-3 draft pick. They'll continue starting one of the turd QBs they have, doesn't really matter which one.
-
This season is a strange one to tank. There's no consensus #1 or #2 QB in the draft. There's probably 7 QBs who could be first rounders, depending on how the rest of season & pre-draft stuff goes. So even though Miami & the Jets are tanking for a QB, the odds aren't very high they'll get a franchise savior.

We need to hope Carolina keeps letting Chuba take a good chunk of the RB touches. They don't seem to fully understand what they have in Dowdle, that dude might put up more yards on us than Bijan. -
Plausible X/#1 receiver trade candidates — are there any?

Drake London & Tee Higgins are similar in size & 40-time to Keon. They were both dangerous WRs from early in their rookie years. I like Keon, but if he had that same potential, we'd be regularly seeing signs of it already. -
The only thing that can hold Walker back is McD's D-Line rotation. I'm really hoping we don't get Ogunjobi taking 50% of the snaps. I get the reasoning behind rotating, but Walker & Oliver should be 65%+ at this point.

Manage Expectations my ass. The 1st round CB we just drafted absolutely needs to be in the game from the moment he's ready. He may not be a stud right away, but I don't think it's even possible that he's not instantly better than Tre. At least he can catch up after he makes a mistake.

The obsession with turning Josh Allen into a pocket QB
947 replied to ChronicAndKnuckles's topic in The Stadium Wall
I fully agree that they should let Josh run around more. That said, Josh is not the same runner he was even 2 years ago. He's clearly not as fast as once was, to my eyes. His top speed is still good but his acceleration is not the same and his change of direction appears more stiff. I think this is why he keeps getting trapped in the backfield & brought down, when those used to turn into 10 yard scrambles. -

Anybody asking for Calvin Ridley has not seen him play this year. He looks washed & would probably have even less on an impact for the Bills than Amari Cooper did. -
Sammy Sosa once had a 2-week IL stint because he strained a back muscle during a sneeze.

Don't worry guys, Larry Ogunjobi will be back next game. We'll be fine -
Ridiculous stat that sums up the secondary play

This is it, exactly. Our players must be coached to not move toward a receiver entering your zone, just hold your hands out like a basketball defender & wait until they get open behind you and catch it. Now go chase him down. -
Maye played really well, but I have a feeling any competent QB would look like that vs our D yesterday. Receivers open by 5 yards and wide open lanes to scramble to your right make the job pretty simple. When has Josh ever played against a defense that just gave it to him like that? If Josh played against McD's Defensive scheme, he'd put up 40+ by halftime.

Ray made a ton of plays... last season. When Ray comes into the game, the Defense knows it's gonna be a run play. It was the same last year, and Ray would still bang out some nice runs. This year, it seems like 1yd runs is all he's capable of in those situations. He lost 15lbs to try to get faster, but he actually looks slower. I hope he didn't diet himself off the team.

A Few Thoughts about the Pats Game - Post yours as well

I just can't comprehend how every team we play has receivers open by yards on more than half of the plays. Why can't our guys close in on open receivers entering their zone, instead of just waiting for them to catch it before reacting? I don't know if Josh has ever faced a Defense that leaves guys open as much as ours. -

I think Cook is seeing stars after that cheap shot -
We definitely can't keep relying on a late roughing the Punter call or a late INT to ice games. The Defense has to find a way to at least not be one of the worst in the league this week. This a game we should win easily, but I don't know if we're capable of beating any team easily right now. If the D plays anything like last week, Maye will look like an MVP & it'll take our offense scoring 40 to win it.

If Only They Could Tackle..It's Not Just the Coaching

I love how Cam Lewis does the McClappy after completely whiffing on that tackle. You just gave a up a 3rd & long? Let's clap it up!! -
Watching Cam Lewis get into great position to make the play after a short gain on 3rd & long, then get absolutely juked out of shoes for a 15yd run by Spencer freaking Rattler, almost made me puke. Then when the exact same thing happened to Dorian shortly after, I actually did puke.

Somebody forgot to tell Deone Walker that we can't stop a 3rd & long. -
If Landon Jackson is able to get on the field and even be average, that'll be a big step up what he showed in preseason. From what I saw, he made me question if he'll ever be able to contribute. I did they say the same thing about Bernard after his first game action, so I'd love to be proven wrong again.
