The sense on this board about Levitre is similar to what I felt about losing Nate Clements. It was tough to lose a good player and make no bones about it Levitre was a very good player. But its hard to pay top dollar for a guy who wasn't by far one of the best at his position. Unlike Pat Williams who was willing to take a very reasonable deal somewhat below what he would have gotten on the market to play with the Bills, this was a case of the Bills making a sensible but hard decision.

Welker to test Free Agency (Update - now a Bronco)
billsfan89 replied to Billsrhody's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
He ended up getting a raise over the next two years and more guaranteed money on the back end so I don't think Brady is too beat up about it. Welker left the best situation for him productivity wise and went to one of the few were he will still likely catch a 100 plus receptions. Vasquez and Welker the Broncos are really serious about winning this year. -
OG Chad Rinehart signs with Chargers
billsfan89 replied to BRAWNDO's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Guards are easy to replace. Losing Levitre hurt but it was a sensible decision given the cost and the position but there are still options like Matt Slauson or Brandon Moore out there that while not as good as Levtire will still give you solid production at that position. Also Reinhart was a waiver wire pickup as was Urbick and Pears. Give Buddy credit he seems to know how to find guards on the cheap. -
Decent signing, we needed bodies there plain and simple adds to a unit that is very thin. Can play in the new system. We still should go out sign a couple of other guys though a lot of talent is still out there. Good to see the team making a move though.

From watching the Jets I see him as an OK guard. Would rather have Brandon Moore as stop gap and draft a kid in the mid rounds. Wouldn't be a bad signing for 2.5ish but I think Moore is a much better guard.

so let me get this right.........

Fans get antsy and it was tough to lose Levitre. Even if Levitre might have gotten a bit of a fat contract he was still a good player who helped turn around the offensive line as a unit. I hope we make some quality signings in the next couple of days. Bills need a WR badly, the QB situation isn't resolved, now they need a guard, and they still have issues on defense. -
Would love to see the Bills make three moves. 1- Sign B. Pollard, 2- Sign DHB and 3- Sign Brandon Moore. Moore would be a nice plug in a Guard, DHB would be a good chance to take to help the WR position .And Pollard is a good safety who would help give the defense an identity. Although Pollard is a stretch DHB and Moore are actual possibilities. We still need some more LB's would like to see us grab another one.or two. And I would like to see the Bills make a run at the NT the Jets released as a one year stop gap he would be a nice chance on the cheap.

Mike DeVito: Visiting KC, Unlikely to leave
billsfan89 replied to The Big Cat's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I would have really liked him but you can't get them all. -
I hope we can get Brandon Moore would be a really good stop gap guy, knows the head coach. Wouldn't be too much of a downgrade from Levitre.
-
Levitre got what he could, good on him. Its going to be hard to lose him. Anyone who watched him knew he was a key cog in the turnaround of the O-line. But 7.8 per year for a guard is tough to match when you can find guards who can do a good job for much less. Tough loss for the Bills but I hope they make a move to bring in a guard, Brandon Moore would be a nice fit.

The Bills do not have a need at DT?
billsfan89 replied to Beerball's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Would love to see Devito to help out at the DE and I think that the system isn't a pure 3-4 its a hybrid so expect a lot of 4-3 fronts. Although I think its safe to say a mid round DL is likely going to be brought in. -
No doubt the Bills will grab a couple of LB's and a WR. Its just a question of will there be any really flashy type acquisitions in free agency. Personally I would love if they would re-sign Levitre and bring in a WR and a few decent defenders. A few acquisitions that would really like 1- Resign Levitre 2- Laron Landry 3- Denario Alexander 4- Mike Devito 5- Rey Maualuga 6- Bart Scott (If Maualuga isn't signed) 7- A tight end of any worth Levitre is such a cog for our O-line and it would be hard to see him go. Alexander would be good to have at WR no QB is successful without good WR's (I don't see Alexander happening and Levitre is less than 50%). I think Devito and Landry would be good Jets cast offs to bring in. In terms of actually happening I see Devito as likely but Landry I don't know. Maualuga, I don't think he is too highly regarded around the league but I think the guy has good potential in a 3-4 and we need LB's.

Levitre: Hasn't heard anything from the Bills yet
billsfan89 replied to Jerry Jabber's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I would be really bummed to see Levitre go. I think a deal in the 6-7 million range is more than fair. Sad to say that I think Levitre will be gone I see this as another Pat Williams situation, although I am not sure that Levitre only wants fair value or the max he can get. I think it will be hard to see Levitre go he is such a cog on a Bills line that was a mess when he first got here and finally came together the last couple of years thanks in part to his efforts. Hopefully they get a deal done and can work on bringing in a WR and some LB's. -
Bills interested in Dannell Ellerbe?
billsfan89 replied to Beerball's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Would love a guy like him, we are completely devoid of talent at LB so targeting that position would be smart. -
For a 6th I wouldn't mind taking a chance on him. But its a lot to give up a higher pick for guy who can be a bit of a malcontent and is coming off a very off year.
-
Got to assume the team will be bringing in some free agents and likely Byrd back.
-
I don't hate it, not thrilled. I don't think Barkley is a terrible pick, best pro ready QB. Then draft him a few targets because we are just devoid of targets. We can sign some players to help on the defensive side and also supplement the WR position. Its all relative but in philosophy going heavy on offense isn't a bad idea.
-
Kelsay hung around at a very high salary for a few years longer than he should have. But that doesn't mean I hate the guy, he was a decent player who you never felt phoned it in which is always admirable. Sadly they probably told him he was going to be cut (Or would have to redo his deal), but rather than take a vet minimum to go into another teams camp and try to make a roster he simply decided to hang them up. Classy for the Bills to let him go out (If that's indeed what they did).Good news for the Bills to spend that cap relief on Byrd and Levitre and hopefully other free agents.

Just How Little Draft Evaluations Mean...
billsfan89 replied to thebandit27's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
It speaks more so to the volatility of the league and the draft than the meaninglessness of draft evaluation. Players get hurt, are busts, traded or leave through free agency. -
Will Beatty contract could be the frame for a LeVitre deal
billsfan89 replied to Estro's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Sounds fair, That would be a decent full value contract. By no means a home town discount but not an overpay. -
Coaching tree's are such BS, the NFL coaching ranks are very incestus pretty much everyone works with each other or someone who worked with someone at some point.

Bills to let David Nelson walk?
billsfan89 replied to Coach Tuesday's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
This is a moronic move. Who are they going to bring in in free agency that is going to be better? Let alone multiple players that are better? Nelson reminds me a lot of Joe Jurevicius a really big and dependable slot WR who can gobble up 1st downs. Such a idiotic move. Even as depth Nelson for under two million would have made much more sense then? -
Landry would be a good pick up to bring in a player to help install the new defense. I wouldn't be opposed to Pace either to help out the front 7. But out of all the Jets rejects I would stay away from Bart Scott guy hasn't been good for two seasons now. If we suffer an injury or two at LB come camp and he is still on the market maybe bring him in then. But Bart Scott hasn't been living up to his namesake for a while now.

Don't think we need to take a QB early I would in philosophy take a WR as I think its our most glaring need. Its just is there really an impact player worth taking at that point? Are there much better options in round 2? If the draft has a lot of good defensive players at the top why shouldn't we go after one 8th overall? I also hope the team targets WR in free agency. Its hard to see use not going defense 1st round and QB 2nd round. We really need to resign Levitre and Byrd and add in some weapons on offense.
